Jisoo doesn’t mind working in a dull corporate setup. He thinks he fits it actually.
After graduating from Yonsei, he didn’t have much in mind going on for his future plans. His alternative is to go back to US and just stay with his mom, probably get a job there or eventually take up the management side of the hospital his mom owns. He’s simple like that.
He did exhibit stellar performance in university, which led up to him getting pre-selected to work for one of the bigger companies in Seoul. Nova Holdings is one of—if not—the biggest conglomerates out there, and having it under your belt immediately gives high merit to someone’s curriculum vitae. Jisoo isn’t one to pass up for that.
Besides, living in Korea isn’t that bad.
He didn’t get to experience living in the country as a child—being born in LA and all that, but he’d always had some summer getaway there almost annually, meeting up and living with his grandparents; may it be with his mom’s or dad’s. He remembers the hot, humid weather, but it’s not that much of a shock to him and he enjoys going around to the beautiful sites whenever he’s there. His grandparents coddled him to death anyway, so it’s not bad at all.
He had decided to study in Korea for university for the fun of it, living alone and leaving his mom behind for 4 years to claim his independency, as he liked to say.
Now it’s been more than that, he’s now nearing his 30s and has been living in Korea for more than 10 years now. He has friends here now, an apartment of his own (to put it humbly) and someone near and dear to him that he can’t leave behind. His adult life is mostly established now in Korea, and he doesn’t think it’s going to change anytime soon.
He started as an Associate in Nova, but that was short lived when he was promoted into a Specialist level within a year of him working in one of the subsidiaries. He was moving around for a while, from one subsidiary to another kind of acting as someone who does skill transfer to the newer, more inexperienced employees who needed help with. It’s kind of tedious, but Jisoo never complains, so his company thinks he’s just automatically okay with it.
After a couple of years as a Specialist, he becomes a Team Lead and effectively moves in the main company. He has a team that he manages, a bunch of associates and specialists that work on project ideas that were assigned to them.
Jisoo’s a bit soft spoken in nature, but he doesn’t back down when he has an idea or an objection on something which leads him to be more of a popular name amongst management. Despite his delicate, soft looks that appear like he could do no harm, his ideas and proposed business strategies were rigorous and always held high success rate, and the higher ups were quick to notice that he’s a mind that deserves to be listened to.
So right now, he sits in Nova as a consultant to the board and management, not a force to be reckoned with –as Soonyoung likes to call him during employee orientations. He always smiles it off and shrugs it like it’s nothing, he’s just doing his job after all.
Part of his job is dealing with Choi Seungcheol’s whims, and ensuring that everything he does is in line with the company values and is strategic to the growth of the company. Seungcheol can make the decisions freely, but it doesn’t mean all of it is going to be right all the time. That’s where Jisoo steps in, cleans up a little bit quietly, and leaves the room like nothing ever happened.
People kind of fear him because of his influence like that, but he doesn’t mind. Nice guys always finish last.

At some point, Seungcheol probably did like her, if he thought about it hard. She wasn’t hard to love; and her strong personality doesn’t faze him. If anything, she would probably understand some of his lamentations since they live and grew up on the same circle.
