Chapter 1: My trip

Chapter Text

My name is Luna, Luna Allura. I’m currently 13, and what more can I say about me? I've been a Coordinator since the age of 8, and since, I bring happiness and enjoyment all around the Hoenn region. My partner is an Audino called Sweetyna, I got it from my mom when she traveled to the Unova region.

I love Pokémon Contests, absolutely anything about them. Their fascinating vibes, all of the outfits… Actually, there is someone whom I admire a lot and who inspired me to become a Coordinator : Wallace Ydàmiro.

Wallace Ydàmiro is one of the biggest Coordinator in the whole world, and he’s also the gym leader of Sootopolis City, specialized in water types creatures. I’m a huge fan of him, of how elegant he is and how proudly he embodies Sootopolitan culture as well.

I was born and raised in Mossdeep City, and I still live here. A few months ago, my parents decided to give me the best gift they could give to me : A 1 week trip to Sootopolis city, they knew Wallace participated in a big contest in his homeplace and I was literally taken aback, my eyes glowed in excitement! I’m usually cheerful and optimistic, even though I can have rough and sad times. When my mind becomes gloomy, my behavior can quickly change to something more shy and reserved, and my fear of being seen by too many people resurfaces.

There was also something I hid for a very long time : I’m not a girl, not a woman. My gender is pretty funky to be honest but agender would be the nearest label to fit it. When I came out to my parents, they were pretty confused at first but they slowly accepted it. Wallace is actually a proud nonbinary icon and he helped many people through the Hoenn region - including myself - to not be ashamed of our gender anymore.

Meeting him was such a very big dream of mine, and I immediately packed all of my needed belongings before my parents booked the hotel, and paid a submariner to bring us there. I’ve never gone underwater before and I have to admit that the road was ethereal and dreamy, I even saw a wild Milotic which is extremely rare.

When we resurfaced, the submariner called a taxi and brought us to the hotel. I was magical, the hotel had a panorama view where we could see all of the volcanic city and when my eyes caught the entrance of the Cave of Origin, my heart beat faster and faster. Wallace is a Sootopolitan Guardian after all. He’s not allowed to enter here unfortunately but that's what Sootopolitan rules are.

We spent 3 days exploring and discovering the city, shopping, taking pictures, which I actually had some fun because I edited them on an app on my phone with cute stuff before publishing them to social media! We went to the Sootopolitan Preservation Museum, the SPM, where I learned a lot about Sootopolitan culture, and how it is likely to be Indigenous, which is something I didn't really understand before. I’m not a Sootopolitan, I’m just a basic Hoennian but I truly respect how these people managed to keep their culture besides settlements and Hoennian colonization.

The day of the contest finally came. I was waiting with my parents outside the arena when I saw someone that immediately caught my eye. It was a young girl who really looked like Wallace with turquoise hair and a shining blue contest dress. She looked so beautiful that I couldn’t resist waving my hand to say hi to her, and she ran over at me!

“Hi! You’re so cute!” I said, flustering and blushing.

“Oh, you too! I’m Lisia, what about you?”

“My name is Luna! I’m here to see my biggest idol, Wallace Ydàmiro!”

“Oh you mean, my uncle?”

“Your… UNCLE??”

Was I literally in front of Wallace’s niece!? My face turned red like a tomato but I think Lisia noticed it.

“Hey Luna? Are you okay?”

“Uuuh…. I think so? I mean, Wallace is my biggest inspiration. He’s the one who gave me the passion to become a Coordinator and I love how he’s a gender diversity positive representation for us.”

“Ahah! I assure you, my uncle is very kind and he would really like to meet you. Would you like me to tell him to meet you?”

She really wanted to make me meet my idol! I was flustered so much but I couldn’t disagree. She took my hand, hers was so soft… Before bringing me inside the arena, I asked my parents if I could go without them and they agreed. When we were inside it, it was already full of people. My heart was racing but Lisia’s touch really helped me to stay grounded.

She brought me inside a big lodge decorated with Milotic themed decorations, a calming aroma of lavender and soothing music playing in the background. My mind became more clear and relaxed until I saw someone sat right next to the dressing table brushing their hair, a long, turquoise flowing hair and putting a white beret. It was him! It was Wallace Ydàmiro, the only one!
