Ansem stretched out his arms and shouted, “Come… Darkness!”
He formed a massive sphere of energy in his hands. The Heartless behind him charged it with all the dark powers he had left from the World of Chaos. Ansem then threw the ball high up in the air, and a huge black hole opened behind them.
He held his dual blade up and shouted, “Now, you weak-hearted fools, witness real power!”
Suddenly, everything went dark around them, and Sora and his friends could feel themselves being pulled towards the black hole. He looked back and saw how the darkness sucked in and destroyed everything around it. Kairi tried to protect the group with a wind spell, but the Heartless quickly cast a curse on her, draining all of her magical powers. Donald and Goofy could no longer withstand the vortex and were finally swallowed up by the black hole. “Soraaaaa…!” Donald called out to him, then his echo disappeared with him.
“No!” Sora shouted and stretched out his hand to them, but it was already too late.
Then he, too, was drawn deeper and deeper into the darkness while all his strength left him as he struggled. He tried to fight back, but Ansem’s powers were way too strong.
Sora’s heart sank to his stomach. How could he believe they ever stood a chance against Ansem? Slowly, he felt his body dissolve in the darkness. He knew what was happening now, after all he had been in this state before. The darkness would consume him until there was nothing left of him. But then he remembered how the light had saved him. The light in the darkness.
“Sora!”
He felt a warm hand reach for his, flooding his entire body with light. He had never felt such a warm, powerful light. He could feel all of his powers returning, stronger than they ever were.
The black hole Ansem had created gradually contracted. Ansem smiled triumphantly. He had combined all his dark powers and successfully destroyed Sora’s existence. Sora was the only one who could have ruined his plans, and now there was nothing standing in his way anymore.
The black hole was about to explode but suddenly, a bright ray of light pierced the darkness. Ansem looked at the light in shock. It grew and grew until it dissolved the darkness that surrounded it.
Two huge, golden angel wings emerged from the light, and the darkness faded away completely. This realm, that was without even the smallest glimmer of light, now shone in the brightest and warmest colors of it. And in the midst of that light were Sora and Kairi, holding each other’s hands. Their bodies shone in a warm light, each supported by one of the golden angel wings. It felt like they had merged into one powerful being, one heart.
“Light!” Sora and Kairi called together while stretching out their other arms, triggering another flood of light. The glowing feathers of their wings scattered, destroying any Heartless Ansem sent after them.
Then they started to fly together while holding each other’s hands for support. With a whirl they fell on Ansem.
All their hopes and dreams, their feelings and memories were reflected on the golden feathers. They blended together and formed such a tremendous light that Ansem could no longer withstand it. Rays of light flooded Ansem’s World of Chaos, and it started to explode.
Sora and Kairi’s light had also freed Donald and Goofy from the black hole, and the two of them gave their all to support their friends in battle. They struck at Ansem while Sora and Kairi’s light hit him, and through their combined forces, he finally fell.
A last ray of light pierced his body, and Ansem and the World of Chaos exploded in front of their eyes.
Sora and Kairi had just used up all their power, and their bodies went back to normal. Relieved, Sora smiled at her and Kairi returned his smile.
Suddenly, they heard a pained gasp.
Ansem hovered before them, back to his original form and drained of all his powers.
“It is futile. The Keyblade alone cannot seal the door to darkness.”
He turned around and aimed his hand at Kingdom Hearts.
“Kingdom Hearts! Fill me… with the power of darkness…”
Slowly the huge doors of Kingdom Hearts opened and darkness poured out of its gates.
“Supreme darkness…”
Ansem was now floating in front of the door, ready to absorb all its darkness.
Sora stared at the door to darkness that slowly opened before his eyes. Then he remembered what he had learned throughout his journey. No matter how deep the darkness, a light shines within. Sora could attest to that over and over again, even when it seemed like the darkness was engulfing everything. Yes, now Sora was sure of it. There was more to Kingdom Hearts than just darkness.
“You're wrong. I know now, without a doubt. Kingdom Hearts… is light!”
As he said this, a flood of light shot out of the doors of Kingdom Hearts, straight at Ansem. When the light hit him, he gasped in pain.
“Light…but why…”
The light enveloped his entire body, and finally Ansem dissolved before their eyes. The light of Kingdom Hearts had purged him.
