Work Text:
Einstein's desk was a disaster. Piles upon piles of messily written notes were strewn about, several open textbooks were shoved off to the side, and in the middle of it all was Einstein who’d long since fallen asleep on one of her textbooks. Despite her ‘promising’ that she’d go to bed ‘after this last chapter’ several times, she never actually went to bed. Instead she fell asleep at her desk.
Knock Knock
There wasn’t a response.
Knock Knock .
Mumbling, she covered her head trying to block out the noise. She didn’t want to deal with anyone, nor did she feel like getting up. Besides, if she ignored it they’d go away, right? Surely they would. Right?
They did not, in fact, go away.
Minutes later the door opened allowing light to pour in, effectively making her blind.
“Rise and shine, Mophead!”
With a groan she glared at the intruder before covering her eyes again. Waving her hand to shoo her away, she started mumbling. “Five more minutes..-” she yawned. “-I’m sleepy..”
“Mophead, it's one in the afternoon and you said you’d go out with me!” Moments later Tesla was sitting next to her. “Look! I even got you coffee-” she paused long enough to sit a little bag on the table. “And a muffin!” Crossing her arms she continued, “Besides, you haven’t seen the light of day in days! Everyone thinks you’re dead!”
She stared up at her with slight annoyance. Truth be told she felt absolutely miserable. Finals were coming closer every minute that passed, she was exhausted, and she felt sick.
There was a brief moment of silence before Tesla’s face dropped, seemingly realizing what was going on.
“.. Lieserl..” Her voice softened as she glanced around the desk, “..did you stay up all night again?”
“.. No comment.” Einstein stared up at her before yawning. Tesla seemed to be thinking about something and didn’t notice, though. Without warning Tesla closed her books and began organizing her notes.
She quickly sat up and reached out to get the papers. “Stop messing with my work. We have finals soon, we need to study-”
Tesla glared at her and smacked her hand away. “Oi-” she snatched her hand back and stared at her. “You agreed to spend time with me! Even if we aren’t going out, if you think I’m going to let you work yourself to death you're crazy!”
She opened her mouth to argue, but she was quickly cut off by Tesla. “Nope!”
“... Fine. But-”
“ Mophead .”
With a sigh she accepted her fate. There wasn’t any point in arguing. Besides, she was exhausted. Taking a break would do her good. “.. Okay..”
She stretched in an attempt to get rid of the stiffness in her upper back and yawned. Moments later she attempted to stand up, nearly falling.
A second later Tesla was beside her grabbing her arm. “Are you okay?”
“Mhm.. Just tired..” Using Tesla for balance she tried to fully stand up again. “Thank you for making sure I was okay.”
“Here, let me help you,” she said as she led her along.
A few minutes later they sat with each other on the couch with blankets wrapped around them. Moments later Einstein laid on Tesla, exhausted. Tesla frowned slightly and gently ran her fingers through her hair.
“Lieserl try to sleep, you need it.”
She stayed silent for a second, before looking up at her with a slight smile. “And if I don’t?” Tesla narrowed her eyes and flicked her. “Fine, fine..” She paused for a minute before mumbling quietly. “.. Thank you for coming to see me.. It means a lot.”
“You’re welcome, Mophead.” She said, pushing hair out of her face. “Go to sleep. You look horrible.”
“.. Nikola I can say the exact same about you,” she said with an innocent smile before rolling back over to sleep.
“I’m going to kill you if you’re not careful-”
“.. Whatever you say.” She yawned before curling up. “If you’re going to kill me then make sure it’s before finals.”
