"I refuse to believe someone as happy as you could possibly exist" (Camp Camp AU)

Summary:

(Camp Camp AU)
-For the purpose of this fic David is 21 and his full name is David Wolfwood (trigun reference)

David is an assassin sent undercover into Camp Campbell with one assignment... to kill Cameron Campbell. However,
There's a few problems, for one David does NOT like kids all that much and he actually sees them as quite a bother.

Problem number two? David doesn't know how he's going to kill Campbell while being stationed at a camp the man never visits.

And problem three? He's unsure how to carry out his mission while keeping up his facade in front of Gwen and the campers as well as making sure Max and his group of troublemakers don't interfere with his job. (and that Gwen doesn't find out David is literally the man of her fanfic dreams)
With all this taken into consideration David is under constant pressure when it comes to making sure all goes according to plan making sure there are no distractions between him and Campbell.

So what happens when Max starts to feel something is off after he begins to notice David is acting weirder than normal one day? And how will he react when he finds out the truth of the overly joyful man he thought he once knew inside and out?

Chapter 1: "Getting into full position" Part 1

Chapter Text

David Wolfwood: Age- 21 described as an impressive man of few words, despite his young age he is exceptional with any weapon that was put in his hands and can master it within weeks.
It was set, he was the perfect choice, he was going to be the one to kill Cameron Campbell…

Or so he thought, in reality you could imagine David's surprise when the agent's car pulled up to a fenced off clearing with a rotting wood sign that read ‘Welcome to Camp Campbell!’ To put it short the assassin's face dropped immediately as he jumped up from his previously slouched position   “What the hell is this?!” he tapped at the driver's shoulder who wasted no time getting to the point,   “This is your cover, David. You're going to be working as a camp counselor. Don't blow it, sure it was stupidly easy to get you the job but still, this is our best lead yet on Cambell and if we have anyone, anyone find out about this we lose our only lead and you lose your (probably) only  job. Sound fair?” David sunk back into his seat   “Yes sir,” The driver looked in the rearview mirror at David before continuing,  “The only other one at the site aware of your mission is the quartermaster, if you need any help go to him first.  ” The driver looked away from the rearview mirror and back to the window that viewed over the camp.

While the driver went to unload David's stuff; the man got out of the car to go have a look around the area and see what he was working with, ‘Tall trees, small rocks, flat area of dirt, counselor cabins, and camper tents, there are definitely other placed to get the job done but just as of now… ‘Some of these areas could work as good spots to land the hit I suppose..’ David thought as he scanned around the rest of the area; he looked over back to the tents where the kids would stay before it dwelled on him that David would actually have to be a counselor and take care of kids. The assassin sighed and muttered softly

“I hate kids..”
