He ought not to have expressed himself so warmly over breakfast; Charles Bingley apologized first to the hunting party, then took up the more painful duty of making amends to his sisters on returning to the house. All accepted his contrition as a matter of course and it was no hardship to let them, redirecting the morning’s mortification to his portion and away from their newer guests.
Only he need know how painful it was to hear any denigration of uncles—be they the Bennets’ or Bingley’s own—in trade.
