Chapter Text
JEREMY - ALIVE
ALAN - DEAD
PUBLIC OPINION - ADVANCE
PLAY TAPE?
-> [YES] NO
One of Katie Brightman's first acts as Prime Minister was to pardon all the political prisoners taken by Advance. So Jeremy was quite enjoying life out of the limelight these days. He definitely liked unemployment more than Betterment. But seeing Bannon's smarmy face on the nightly news was making him want to storm the studio for a third time, consequences be damned. He's debating whether he could get Megan and Robyn on board when there's a knock at the door.
"Hello." Jenny wrings her hands, clearly preoccupied. Her face is soft and open, bare of makeup.
"I know it's probably a bad time, but I realised something," she says. "Can I come in?”
He wordlessly steps aside. Jenny’s been over several times before. Somewhere along the way it became commonplace to see her shuffling around his kitchen making tea, slinging insults at him from his living room. But watching her hang up her coat at this hour of night is so intimate that Jeremy almost feels like he's trespassing.
"I think you might be it for me," Jenny whispers. "I know we've only been dating a few weeks, and it's too early to start thinking like that. But I've looked everywhere else, I tried all the others."
"And I always come back to you."
Jeremy can't find the words. They’re not enough, anyway, to convey the warmth in his chest. He pulls her into a hug instead. Feels her breathe a shaky sigh of relief.
This may be the epilogue to someone else's story, but to him it feels like everything is only just beginning.
