Fight to Win

Summary:

“He didn’t do anything wrong. It’s me. I did something wrong.” Katsuki sighs.

“Because you like him?” Hitoshi asks and Katsuki almost jumps at that.

“What?! No! I don’t! Why would you say that?!” He panics. Had he been that obvious? Does that mean Shouto knows too?

“It’s not hard to tell. You act so differently towards him than anyone else. The flirting? You think I didn’t notice it’s not just for a laugh?” For some reason Hitoshi doesn’t sound angry about it, which is strange because shouldn’t he be mad if his friend likes his boyfriend and actively flirts with him?

Notes:

hi! hope you enjoy this little treat!!!

sorry for any mistakes, couldn’t have my usual beta to read it over before posting ;)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

He sits down in his chair with a huff, sets up his game ready to start before tabbing to his other screen and checking that Shinso was ready for them to begin. He grabs his headset, placing it on his head and makes sure the camera angle is set to how he likes it before he starts the stream.

“Took you long enough.” Hitoshi’s tired voice comes through his headset.

“I’m right on time, shut it.” Katsuki snaps at him. “Everyone, let’s just ignore him. You’re watching my stream anyway so I’m the one that’s important here.” He adds and Shinso snorts. Katsuki watches the comments flood in, some agreeing with him jokingly and telling Hitoshi to go away and others making it clear they were here for Hitoshi too.

“With that said, welcome to today’s stream everyone. As promised it’s a collab stream with Hitoshi since you all couldn’t stop spamming me asking to bring him back for a stream again.” Katsuki huffs. He waits for Hitoshi to request to join his game before he accepts the request.

“I’m in high demand, what can I say?” Hitoshi says and Katsuki rolls his eyes.

They both get started into the stream, playing the game whilst they bickered between each other and replied to questions people in the chat were asking. As much as he didn’t like to actually admit it, he did enjoy doing streams with Hitoshi. The guy was generally chill and it did help that he was good at acting as support in the game.

“Hitoshi- Oh… I’m so sorry.”

Ah.

And that’s the other reason he liked streaming with Hitoshi.

Katsuki’s eyes instantly turn to the box in the corner of his monitor which displayed Hitoshi and now his boyfriend standing in the doorway just behind him.

“It’s okay, baby. I didn’t tell you.” Hitoshi says. Katsuki watches the chat start spamming with “hi shouto!”. Anyone that knew Hitoshi also knew of his pretty boyfriend too. “Chat says hi.” Hitoshi tells him and Katsuki watches as Shouto comes into the room, bends down so his head is next to Hitoshi’s and he smiles softly and waves at the camera.

“Hi everyone, sorry for interrupting. Oh, is that Katsuki? Hi Katsuki.” He smiles again and Katsuki knows he shouldn’t feel this way about his friend’s boyfriend but how could he not? He was so fucking pretty and it didn’t help that he was also genuinely so fucking nice too. Katsuki kind of wishes he was an asshole so he didn’t have to like him as much. Katsuki then sees the chat telling Shouto not to apologise and they’re glad they got to see him.

“Hi, princess.” Katsuki smirks.

“Was it something important you needed me for?” Hitoshi asks then, and Shouto shakes his head.

“No, it’s okay. I’ll leave you both to it. Have fun everyone!” He smiles once more and waves at the camera before he’s leaving the room.

“When does the princess get to play?” Katsuki asks and Hitoshi sighs out a heavy sigh.

“Shut up, Katsuki. If he ever plays it’d be on my stream with me. Not you.” Hitoshi tells him.

“Tch. Worried I’ll beat him at the game and make him cry or something?” Katsuki mocks.

“No. He’d win easy.” Hitoshi says and Katsuki laughs.

“Yeah right. Has he even held a damn controller before?”

“He plays a lot, actually. He just doesn’t play with people or stream. You’d be surprised how good he is.”

“Alright. Chat, what do you say? Think I should get Shouto to do a stream with me?” Katsuki asks and Hitoshi is already protesting but the chat is going crazy begging for Katsuki and Shouto to do a stream together.

“No way! That’s not happening.” Hitoshi says.

“Why not? They want to see it and besides, isn't it up to Shouto and if he wants to do it or not?” Katsuki asks. If Shouto doesn’t want to do it then he’s not going to force him but it was pissing him off that Hitoshi had already decided for him.

“You’re just going to flirt with him the whole damn time.” Hitoshi says and well… maybe he did have a point but that didn’t matter.

“Me?! Pft, no I wouldn’t.” Katsuki then cheers when he finally takes down the boss he was fighting - with help from Hitoshi, of course.

“You flirt with him when I’m here, you’re definitely gonna flirt with him when I’m not.”

“No I don’t, I’m just nice.”

“You’re not nice to anyone.”

“I’m nice to him.”

“Exactly. It’s weird.” Hitoshi says and the chat is trying to decide if they think Katsuki is actually flirting with Shouto or if it’s more teasing him over flirting.

They move on from the conversation and continue the stream until the time they usually end it and Katsuki is shutting everything off but he can’t help but keep thinking about what Hitoshi had said.

He wasn’t that bad, was he? He didn’t actually mean to fully flirt with Shouto, it had started off purely as a laugh. He liked the way it made Shouto flustered, the boy never knew how to reply to Katsuki’s comments so Katsuki had lots of fun teasing him but he figures somewhere along the lines it had crossed over a line he hadn’t seen. He worries that maybe it was making Shouto uncomfortable and he had told Hitoshi about it. He didn’t want that. He didn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable. He runs at his face as he pulls his phone out of his pocket and opens up his chat with Hitoshi.

Katsuki

Hey, I don’t make Shouto uncomfortable with the stuff I say, right?

Eyebags

I don’t think so. He’s never said anything about it. Why?

Katsuki

Nothing. I just over thought it ig.

Am I crossing a line?

Eyebags

Don’t worry. Flirt with him all you like, it doesn’t actually bother me. He doesn’t seem uncomfortable by it either. I’ll ask him about that stream you want to do with him.

Katsuki

sure. thanks.

Katsuki hadn’t expected much to come out of it, if he was being honest he thought that Shouto would probably decline the offer. He didn’t seem like the type that loved being in front of the camera. He was always so shy when he came to say hi and Katsuki remembers all the times Hitoshi had tried to coax him to even say a hello in the background when people first found out about Shouto being Hitoshi’s boyfriend.

It was surprising when Hitoshi had texted him to let him know Shouto had agreed and would like Katsuki to let him know when he wants to do the streak and what he would need to prepare. Katsuki couldn’t help but grin about it, a whole stream with Shouto? He couldn’t wait. He knew the people that watched his streams, as well as Hitoshi’s were about to lose their minds when he makes the announcement about it.

He was nervous.

Why the fuck was he nervous?

He didn’t often get nervous so why was he nervous now waiting for Shouto to join the stream? He had already started it up and greeted his viewers, there was still one more minute remaining until Shouto was meant to join.

As soon as Shouto loaded into the stream, the chat went crazy. He smiled into the camera and did the shy little wave he always did.

“Hi everyone, hi Katsuki.” He says and Katsuki can’t help but just stare at him. He was wearing makeup. Not a lot. Just some winged eyeliner and his cheeks were pink with blush and his lips were glossy but Katsuki felt himself being so underprepared for this. “Oh, wow. I didn’t expect so many people to actually be excited that I am here.” He says, a little laugh coming out with it too. Katsuki thinks he’s so utterly fucked.

“Yeah, yeah. Everyone loves the princess.” He says, trying so hard to not make it obvious how he actually feels right now. “Request to join me, we’ll just co-op a bit before we 1V1 each other.” Katsuki says and Shouto nods, requests to join Katsuki's game and he accepts it immediately.

“Alright, let’s see if you’re any better than Hitoshi.” Katsuki says as he sets up a boss battle.

“Is it ok if you act as DPS and I as support?” Shouto asks, he seems nervous and maybe it’s because thousands of people are watching them right now.

“Yeah. We usually go off who’s game we’re in. If you want to be DPS at any point let me know though.” Katsuki says and completely ignores the “ooooh he’s actually letting someone be DPS for a change? Pretty boy must be special.” And honestly it’s completely fucking fine they called Shouto ‘pretty boy’ because he is but Katsuki just thinks he should be the one to call him that and not some random on the internet.

Katsuki chooses his characters for the fight and glances at Shouto who’s still making his decision. It’s like he’s scared people will judge him for who he goes with and honestly he doesn’t blame him, he’s had his fair share of viewers not liking a character he’d picked before.

“Is it okay if I use Layla?” Shouto asks, Katsuki watches him glance at the chat.

“Yeah, sure. I could use the shield anyways.” Katsuki tells him and then Shouto picks his characters and they’re off in the battle. Katsuki’s doing most of the work, which as a DPS it’s fine, Shouto is making sure to keep his characters shielded so they don’t take damage and it’s working out so perfectly. They wrap up the fight relatively quickly and Katsuki has half the mind to take a jab at Hitoshi for not being as good as Shouto at support. They decide to then explore the world together and fight enemies they approach. Shouto seemed to have a habit of ending up in the middle of a battle whilst Katsuki was busy doing something else and Shouto would let out a light laugh before saying “a little help over here, Katsuki?” And he knows if it was Hitoshi it’d piss him off, and knows that it should still piss him off. But it doesn’t. He instantly goes to help Shouto despite the fucker literally having a character that can sheild and protect him from damage. The chat doesn’t even say anything about it, just says it’s cute of Katsuki to help him. Some even joke about how Hitoshi better watch out since Katsuki is such a gentleman.

When they finally start the 1V1 match Katsuki thinks he’s severely underestimated Shouto’s capability in the game. His first clue should have been the character he switches to be.

“You had him this whole time?! Is he leveled?” Katsuki asks.

“Why don’t you find out?” And oh. Okay. He’s getting cocky now. Katsuki thinks he can knock him down a peg or two easily.

It’s just, when they start the fight Shouto is off to a great start. Katsuki takes a hit and the damage is like nothing he’s seen before. “What the fuck?” He breathes out. He lands a hit on Shouto’s character but it doesn’t do quite the same amount of damage. Shouto lands only one more hit and Katsuki’s character before he wins. Katsuki is speechless. Shouto giggles.

“Bet you didn’t expect that, huh?” Shouto says and he’s smiling wide, it’s the first time Katsuki’s ever seen him smile like that. He looks really happy and he can’t find it in himself to be mad about losing even if he’s usually really competitive because if Shouto was going to look that happy every time he won, Katsuki might think about letting him win every time.

“How’s it going, baby?” Right. Hitoshi. Shouto is Hitoshi’s boyfriend. Once again, the chat goes crazy when Hitoshi appears.

“I just beat Katsuki in a match!” Shouto tells him and his voice is all light.

“Told you, didn’t I?” Hitoshi says and he’s looking into the camera, looking at Katsuki.

“Yeah, whatever. So the princess is good at the game. So what?” Katsuki rolls his eyes.

“Don’t be a sore loser, Katsuki.” Shouto pouts and bats his eyelashes and Katsuki thinks he might die right there.

“Tch. I’m not. You did good or whatever.” He mumbles and Hitoshi laughs.

“I’ve never seen him offer anyone a compliment. Count yourself lucky, Shou.”

They eventually end the stream with Shouto promising to do another stream with him again. Katsuki’s not sure if he can go through that again in all honesty. His feelings for Shouto are becoming too much, he knows they are and he doesn’t know what to do about them at all.

He streams with Hitoshi some more times, but doesn't set up a plan to stream with Shouto because he needs to distance himself. Whenever Shouto enters the room with Hitoshi he does his signature shy smile and wave and then greets Katsuki separately like always, only this time Katsuki just offers him a short “hi” rather than his usual grin and “hi princess” and then trying to get Hitoshi to let him play. He’s not sure if anyone’s noticed the change, no one comments on it so he thinks he’s fine. It’s only when the stream ends and Hitoshi is still on a video call with him does he realise he’s not being as subtle as he thinks with the changes in his behaviour.

“Do you want to tell me what’s up with you?” Hitoshi asks and Katsuki scowls at him.

“The fuck are you talking about?”

“You’re acting weird around Shouto. I’ve noticed it, he’s noticed it. Your viewers have even noticed it.” Hitoshi explains and Katsuki rolls his eyes.

“What? I stop calling him princess and everyone’s suddenly saying I’m being weird?” He scoffs.

“It’s not just that. You haven’t asked him to stream with you again, you don’t ask him to play instead of me. Are you really that butt hurt he beat you?”

“What the… it’s not about that!”

“So it is something. Did he do something wrong because he thinks he did but he doesn’t know what he did.” Well, fuck. The last thing he wanted was for Shouto to think he had messed up somehow.

“Why the fuck do you let me then? I asked you if it was a problem.”

“Because it’s not a problem. We’re both poly, if you want to flirt with him you can. If he wants to flirt with you he can, although he’s not actually that great at it so he probably won’t.” Hitoshi explains.

“You’re poly… so this whole time... Okay.” Katsuki sighs, presses his fingers into his temples. He hasn’t messed up. That’s good to know. His friend doesn’t hate him. “Does Shouto know that I like him?” Katsuki asks.

“No. You could literally tell him to his face and he’d think you meant as friends. If you plan on letting him know then you’re going to have to spell it out for him.” Hitoshi smirks.

“And you're okay with that?” He has to ask. He needs to know this is really okay.

“Yep. You don’t know, do you?” He’s smirking and Katsuki’s confused.

“Know what Eyebags? Spit it out.”

“I have another partner. Denki. We’re not as exclusive shall we say, it’s more casual with him. He also has another partner separate from me, she’s called Jirou. She’s cool, I think you’d actually get along with her well.”

“Wait. So let me get this straight. You’re dating Shouto but you’re also dating Denki who’s dating Jirou and you’re not dating Jirou and Denki isn’t dating Shouto?” Katsuki asks, trying to wrap his head around the information he’s just received.

“Exactly. Shouto doesn’t have another partner, if you were wondering.” Well that’s just fucking fantastic isn’t it? He doesn’t even know what to do with that information. Where’s he meant to go from here?

As it turns out, he didn’t even need to do all that much. Hitoshi told him to leave it with him and well, he didn’t have much hope in that. What was Eyebags going to do to help in this situation? Katsuki had practically abandoned the idea of ever getting close to Shouto like that if Eyebags was now in charge of the situation.

Katsuki did decide to set up another stream with Shouto though. He figured he might as well try to figure out what it is Hitoshi had planned and he wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to spend time with Shouto again, especially now he knew it was completely okay that he felt like this towards him.

“Hi Katsuki!” Shouto smiles into the camera, he doesn’t have makeup on this time and Katsuki is honestly quite thankful for that.

“Hey, Princess. You doing okay?” He asks as he gets the battle set up for them both.

“Yeah, I’m better now I get to see you and your viewers.” He giggles and Katsuki feels his heart rate pick up.

“Oh, yeah? Were you just waiting to see me again?” He asks as they’re choosing their characters.

“Of course, I missed you.” Well fuck. He said it like it was obvious. Like he genuinely did miss Katsuki and one thing he knows about Shouto is that he tends to be very direct and means what he says.

“You hear that everyone? Princess missed me.” He smirks, tries to play it off like it’s not affecting him as much as it actually is.

They get into the game after that, Shouto acting as support and shielder once again as Katsuki uses his best characters for damage and he gets giddy every time Shouto seems amazed with the damage his characters are doing, is shocked when Shouto asks him to showcase his characters and asks to see the builds of them because he’s genuinely curious and no one other than his viewers have been curious about it before but he loves to show off the builds he’s worked so hard on. He spends his time showing Shouto and the viewers each build and explaining why he set certain things the way he did and Shouto actually listens to him.

It’s simple things about Shouto he likes, things he’s picked up on from the times he sits in when Hitoshi is streaming. Like how attentive he is. How he’ll listen so genuinely and tries to make sure everyone is heard. He remembers one of the first times Shouto had sat in with Hitoshi whilst Katsuki was streaming with him. How Katsuki and Hitoshi started bickering over characters because they couldn’t decide whose was better for the battle and Shouto had sat silently listening to both of their arguments before he had said quietly “I think Katsuki’s would be better for this one.”. It had shocked Katsuki, mostly because he didn’t even think Shouto had been listening to him but the fact he didn’t just try and stick up for Hitoshi. It didn’t matter though because with Shouto’s approval, Hitoshi gave up the fight and Katsuki got to pick the character.

⋆ ‧ ˚♡˚ ‧ ⋆

Somehow, and he’s really not sure how he managed to pull it off, Hitoshi had set up a date for Katuski and Shouto. When he had received the text from Hitoshi he had thought it was a joke. Shouto had actually agreed to go on a date with him? That meant he liked him too, right? At least enough to consider going on a date.

So here he was standing outside a damn cat café because of course the bastard chose that to be the setting of their date. Was he nervous? Maybe a little but he wasn’t going to admit that. He had only met Shouto a handful of times in person and they didn’t speak much partly because it was always at get togethers so Katsuki was preoccupied with other things and Shouto seemed too shy to interact with anyone he wasn’t extremely familiar with.

“Hi, Katsuki. You weren’t waiting long, were you?” Shouto stands in front of him, a soft smile on his face and Katsuki might as well admit defeat and drop dead right there because he forgot how pretty Shouto was in person. The damn camera he sees him on doesn’t do him justice at all. He’s beautiful and Katsuki can see the glimmer of sparkles on his eyelids, the pink tinting his cheeks and nose, the light pink on his lips that shine with the gloss that’s been applied over the top.

“No. You ready, princess?” He asks and Shouto nods. They both step into the cafe, sign in and listen to the worker explain what they’re allowed to do and what they’re not allowed to do before they’re entering the main area where all the cats are. Katsuki sees Shouto instantly light up at the sight of them and he’s not sure he’s strong enough for this.

“Come, come!” Shouto takes his hand and pulls him along until they’re stood beside a cat tree. “This one’s my favourite. I love them all, but she’s got my heart.” Shouto says as he reaches out and pets the fluffy white cat.

“What’s her name?” Katsuki asks. He listens to the cat purr loudly as Shouto continues to scratch under her chin.

“Soba. Maybe it’s why she’s my favourite, she’s named after my favourite food. That and the first time I came here she immediately was all over me so I think we’re good friends now. Pet her?” Shouto looks at him.

“I don’t know, shortcake. Cats don’t take to me well.” Katsuki says.

“Don’t be silly! Just go slow.” He reaches out and takes Katsuki’s hand and guides it slowly towards the cat. “Let her sniff you first so she knows you’re not a threat.” Katsuki holds his hand out to the cat and her nose bumps it before she’s butting her head against it and Shouto smiles wide at that. “See! She likes you!” Katsuki smiles too as he pets the soft fur. He suddenly feels something brush up against his leg and he looks down to find a ginger cat rubbing against his legs.

“Hm. I think cats take to you just fine.” Shouto comments as he crouches down to pet the new arrival. Katsuki has the urge to run his hand through Shouto’s hair but he doesn’t. He keeps stroking Soba instead until she’s moving and stretching and then she’s butting her head against him again and pawing at his arm.

“What is she doing?” Katsuki asks and Shouto looks up before he’s standing back up again.

“She wants you to pick her up.” He says and Shouto’s hands are on his arms moving him carefully closer to her and Soba rubs her head against his chest now she can reach it.

“I thought we couldn’t pick them up?” He says, the worker definitely told them that. He knows she did.

“It’s okay, I know them. You won’t get in trouble, I promise. Just scoop her up and she’ll be happy.” Shouto says and Katsuki looks at him before Soba is now pawing at his chest and he sighs before placing his hands under her and picking her up and holding her to him. She purrs loudly as Katsuki holds her. Shouto smiles and he’s leaning closer to look at her. “She likes you.” He smiles up at Katsuki before looking back at Soba in his arms. Shouto then leans in to place a little kiss on Soba’s head and he’s so close that Katsuki can smell the shampoo he uses and fuck. Of course he smells like strawberries. Soba presses her nose to Shouto’s cheek and he giggles at the feeling and Katsuki doesn’t know how Hitoshi survives every day being around him without kissing him every damn second.

Soba eventually lets Katsuki put her down and they both sit at a table and order drinks. Katsuki makes a face at the pink sugary drink Shouto gets but the other pays no mind to it and they start talking about random things they like and discuss the game they both love to play. Soba makes her way over at some point and makes herself comfortable on Katsuki’s lap and Katsuki finds Shouto pouting over at him.

“What’s with the pout?” He asks.

“She’s found a new favourite.” Shouto says and takes a sip of his drinks.

“Oh. See I thought it was because you wanted to sit on my lap instead.” Katsuki says and watches as Shouto chokes on his drink, his cheeks turning red under the blush he already has on and Katsuki wants to kiss him so badly.

“Well… maybe that too.” Shouto says finally and Katsuki feels his own cheeks heat up and he distracts himself by petting Soba instead.

They eventually leave the café and Katsuki feels his heart almost beat out of his chest when Shouto immediately takes his hand in his as they walk. “Did you have fun?” Shouto asks.

“Yeah. It was nice, I didn't expect the cats to like me so much.” He says.

“I was worried you wouldn’t like it, but I’m glad you did. I was surprised when Hitoshi told me you liked me. I knew you were always nice to me… nicer than you are with other people, at least that’s what everyone else says but I didn’t think you’d like me back.” Shouto says and Katsuki stops walking, causing Shouto to stop too and he turns to look at him.

“Like you back?” Katsuki says and something flashes across Shouto’s face, almost like panic and Katsuki knows he’s about to say something dumb.

“Oh. Sorry… Did I get this all wrong? Hitoshi said you liked me, I assumed it was like a ‘more than friends’ situation. I’m sorry if I misread that.” Shouto goes to let go of his hand but Katsuki keeps a firm grip.

“You didn’t misread anything, princess. I like you. A fucking lot actually, I just didn’t think you also liked me. Not like that anyway.” Katsuki confirms and watches Shouto instantly relax at the words.

“And you’re okay with the fact I’m with Hitoshi too? I don’t want that to be a problem later, for anyone.”

“Yeah, he already explained the situation to me. Explained about his other partner too. Dates are going to be more like a party.” Katsuki jokes and Shouto smacks his arm lightly.

“Shut up.” He smiles. “I’m glad because I’d really like to try with you, if that’s what you want. I enjoy every moment I get to spend with you, even if we’re just playing a game together. Being around you makes me happy so I would really like for you to be mine.” Shouto says.

“Shut the fuck up so I can kiss you.” Katsuki blurts out and Shouto’s eyes go wide.

“Okay… I…” Katsuki tugs him closer by their entwined hands and leans close enough that their lips are almost touching but not quite yet.

“This okay?” Katsuki asks and he feels Shouto’s breath stutter.

“Kiss me, Katsuki.” He whispers and Katsuki closes the gap between them, kissing Shouto finally and he can’t believe it’s taken this long for him to do it because he thinks it might be his favourite activity.

When they pull away he licks at his own lips and smirks “of course you taste like strawberries too.” He says and Shouto leans his head against Katsuki’s shoulder to hide himself and Katsuki laughs. “Hey, look at me.” He pulls Shouto back so he looks at him and he leans in again to give him a quick kiss. “Let’s get my princess home, hm?”

⋆ ‧ ˚♡˚ ‧ ⋆

Katsuki thought he’d never get the chance to be with Shouto, tried hard to forget the feelings he managed to get for him, but now waking up with the boy in his arms he can’t imagine why he ever thought he didn’t stand a chance. They worked so well together, balanced each other out and Katsuki didn’t even care when he was around both Shouto and Hitoshi at the same time. He knew Shouto loved him just as much and he’d prove it time and time again. Katsuki had found himself getting closer to Hitoshi too at some point, he doesn’t think either of them have the same kind of feelings they share for Shouto but it’s nice when the three of them cuddle together and all hang out.

Katsuki even got to meet Denki at some point and he was so wildly different from Shouto but it still made sense why Shinso liked him so much. Denki and Shouto got along well too and Katsuki liked the dynamic they all had. It just worked and he knew they sometimes had disagreements and there was miscommunication here and there but in the end it all worked out perfectly and Katsuki wouldn’t change any of it.

Katsuki, Hitoshi and Shouto started up a joint streaming channel where they played games all together, their viewers absolutely loved them all together and it made the trip so happy to know they did. Whenever Shouto was streaming by himself, Katsuki would come in and kiss him on the cheek or on his head just to watch Shouto get flustered in front of everyone and watch the chat go crazy.

It was silly in Katsuki’s head, how a stupid game had somehow managed to get him the boy of his dreams but it did and he wasn’t going to complain about it, especially now when he’s sitting on the couch in Hitoshi’s apartment, Shouto leaning back in his arms and Katsuki has his legs laid over Hitoshi’s as they all watch some film. He doesn’t think he’d ever pass the opportunity up if he was given another chance to.

This was all so important to him, Shouto was important to him and somewhere along the lines Hitoshi had also become important to him.
