A Moments Rest

Summary:

“What was that for?”

“Just wanted to pinch you.”

“No, the… the other thing.”

Katsuki swept his thumb across Izuku’s cheek again. “Just wanted to.”

Work Text:

Katsuki had been enjoying the peace and quiet for maybe five minutes before it was disturbed.

There were the soft shuffling sounds of someone walking toward him over the grass, the quiet sigh, the drop of a heavy book bag on the ground near their feet. The other body laying down next to Katsuki, head so close to his own that he could feel hair tickling his cheek.

Katsuki stubbornly kept his eyes closed and ignored the body next to him. He tried to relax again, to focus back on the sounds of the birds and the way the sun was baking his skin. It was the first truly nice day in months and Katsuki was determined to enjoy it. The onslaught of mumbling to his left was really making it difficult though.

“Oi, Deku, do you even know how to shut up?” Katsuki finally snapped.

The body next to him froze and then there was a light laugh. “Sorry Kacchan.”

“You come out here just to annoy me or what?”

“You know that's my only goal in life, Kacchan.”

“Hm.”

They settled into silence again but Katsuki couldn’t find it in him to relax back into the grass. He and Izuku had been doing some sort of weird dance around each other for weeks now and Katsuki was getting restless. He was hyper aware of the curls against his cheek, the shoulder pushed into his own, the calloused strong hands that were within grabbing distance.

Katsuki sighed harshly from his nose and finally opened his eyes. He glanced over and Izuku looked just as beautiful as Katsuki would have imagined. It was infuriating. Sunlight catching in his green curls, eyes closed against the brightness allowing impossibly long eyelashes to sweep over ridiculously cute freckled cheeks. Katsuki wanted to squeeze his face until it exploded. He settled for reaching over to pinch a cheek instead.

He pinched the soft skin hard between his fingers and Izuku jerked in surprise.  Green eyes on Katsuki, just how he liked it. Izuku glared and his own hand shot out to grab Katsuki’s offending wrist.

“Ouch.” Izuku said pointedly when Katsuki still didn’t let go.

Katsuki was having a moment though. He hadn’t really thought this through. Because now their heads were tilted toward each other, noses nearly brushing, and his hand was on Izuku’s face, and Izuku was just so stupidly, painfully, beautiful.

“Kacchan, you’re still pinching.” Izuku reminded.

Katsuki loosened his grip but left his fingers splayed across the now pink cheek. His thumb, the traitor, brushed over Katsuki’s favorite heart shaped freckle. Izuku was past pink, blush deepening to red.

“What was that for?”

“Just wanted to pinch you.”

“No, the… the other thing.”

Katsuki swept his thumb across Izuku’s cheek again. “Just wanted to.”

“Kacchan?”

Katsuki wasn’t really thinking anymore. He just let his head fall forward the rest of the way, ghosting his lips against Izuku’s. It didn’t take very long for Izuku to get with the program, kissing Katsuki back like his life depended on it.

They stayed like that for a while, maybe a few minutes, before they were disturbed.

A shadow fell over their faces and there was a round of giggles. Katsuki glared up at the offenders but they didn’t seem to mind.

“We leave you two alone for fifteen minutes and you're making out in the courtyard.” Uraraka laughed.

“A very manly public display of affection.” Kirishima said proudly, laying one on Mina as if to prove a point.

“You’re all idiots.” Katsuki snapped, laying his head back on the grass and closing his eyes again.

Their friends all settled down around them and Katsuki listened to them chatter about classes and weekend plans but really all he cared about was the hand that had intertwined their fingers together. Scarred and crooked and perfect. He risked a glance at Izuku and the nerd was already staring at him grinning. Katsuki huffed in annoyance but the little smile that managed to find its way onto his face showed he wasn't really annoyed at all.

They shifted closer to one another and ignored the laughter of their friend groups, relaxing into the feel of each other's sun baked skin.
