Work Text:

“King! Get the elixir!” Luz shouted.

Eda transformed so quickly. She lied about her curse bothering her, and it was suddenly so obvious to Luz that it WAS bothering her.

“But, what about-“ King was cut off.

“GO!!” Luz screamed.

Her heart raced as the owl beast approached her. She began backing away.

Luz quickly tried to grab a light glyph, but…

She was too late.

The owl beast clawed at Luz. The beast’s sharp talons striked Luz’s body.

She let out a choked gasp.

King came running back in with a bag of elixirs, then also gasped. “LUZ?!”

Luz was hyperventilating. She clutched her body, shaking. “Elixir.” She mumbled.

King took a shaky claw, grabbing an elixir and forcing it in the beast’s mouth.

It didn’t work.

The beast growled.

Luz turned around, still shaking. She grabbed another elixir to try and help, until-

Another slash.

Luz let out another choked gasp.

She felt her back sting.

Elixir, after elixir, after elixir.

Eda finally transformed back.

Luz ran off before Eda could see.

“Woah.” Her voice was muffled.

“Thanks for that.”

“…And those.” Eda remarked.

King gave Eda a worried look.

Luz was nowhere in sight.

“Where’s Luz?” Eda questioned, looking into King’s eyes. Her voice was hinted with concern, and fear.

King hesitated. He didn’t wanna scare Eda… Oh, she had no idea, did she? She had no idea that she attacked—

“Eda?” Luz questioned.

Why was Luz no longer in her uniform? Eda thought to herself.

“Luz!” Eda shakily got up, running over to her.

“Eda! Oh my gosh, are you okay? Your curse…”

Eda shook her head. “No, are you okay?”

Luz hesitated.

“…Yeah! I’m okay. Do you need me to stay home and take care of you?”

Eda sounded baffled. “Kid, you don’t need to do that. I’m perfectly capable-“

Luz grabbed Eda’s arms. “No. I’m staying home. I’m making sure you get your rest.”

Eda wanted to protest, but something in Luz’s eyes made her shut her mouth.

————————

It had been days since that transformation. Something told Eda there was more than the petrification ceremony that had Luz staying home from school.

Eda felt like she had to do something for Luz. Luz was always doing so much for her, so…

“I know how much she appreciates fresh clothing, and she’s sleeping right now…” Eda spoke to herself.

Luz had been wearing different clothing recently. She probably needed her favorites cleaned, right?

She started up the stairs, around the corner, then into Luz’s room.

“Okay, now where’s…” She began to search.

Luz’s favorite hoodie, and her…

Uniform.

Her uniform was torn up. There were stitches, patches, and visible tears all over the clothing.

Eda’s heart stopped.

What…?

Luz was fast asleep in her sleeping bag.

Eda’s heart was racing out of her chest. What happened? Why was it all ripped up? Was Luz hurting? What isn’t she telling me?

She shook Luz, trying to wake her. “Luz?”

Luz grumbled, sitting up. She was wearing her most used pajamas. Her starred pants with a little creature at the bottom and a…

Tank top.

A tank top that showed her arms, her shoulders and her back.

They were covered in scratches and scars.

Eda dropped the clothing that was in her arms.

“Luz?” Eda squeaked out.

Luz’s eyes widened.

Eda found out.

She found out about what she had been hiding for all this time.

About how she attacked her.

“Um, Eda…” She started.

“What happened?” Eda spoke shakily.

She crouched down to Luz’s level. She grabbed her arms, looking.

Eda was trembling, and breathing heavily. She was lightheaded. Her head spun while her breathing caused her lightheadedness to increase.

She could barely breathe. She could barely reach Luz. She could barely reach herself.

“Where… Did…”

Eda paused as she thought over.

Her clothes changed after the transformation day…

She hadn’t gone to school…

She never spoke about how she was…

She was quiet…

She winced when she was hugged.

Eda’s throat clogged.

It was almost impossible to breathe.

“Did I do that?” Eda questioned. Her voice was broken.

Luz didn’t respond.

She was dead silent.

She pulled a blanket over herself.

“I didn’t wanna worry you!” Luz said, frowning.

“I’ve already been worried, Luz!” Eda shouted.

Eda was shaking horribly. Her heart was racing, and she felt nauseous.

She started crying.

She sobbed, and shook, and lost her breath over and over. Her head had never spun this hard in her life.

“You’ve been acting differently and I just wanted to know what was going on! Luz, did I attack you?!” Eda croaked through sobs.

It was Luz’s turn to cry.

She really did attack her, didn’t she?

Luz never responded. She just cried. She cried out of fear, and out of dread that she was the one who hurt Eda. Not the other way around.

There was no coming back from this, was there?
