Chapter 1: How To Raise The King Of The World

Chapter Text

Inspired by: Isaiah 9: 5-6

5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle

and every garment rolled in blood

will be destined for burning,

will be fuel for the fire.

6 For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given,

and the government will be on his shoulders.

Two soldiers travel through the freezing snow, flakes still falling from the sky but not as heavy as before.

One is tall with broad shoulders, strong and fierce, long pink hair, braided, behind their back, escaping their helmet, axe strapped to their back.

The second is slightly taller than the first, but thin and almost scrawny with a bow on their back and some cloth cradled in their arms.

They’re both covered in armour, light blue and white highlights, both stained with blood that’s not their own.

The two soldiers travel through the freezing snow, a mission and goal in mind, after their last goal had been completed.

One spots a cave in the mountains and silently the two go in.

The broader one takes his helmet off first, revealing himself to only his brother, who then also takes his helmet off.

Wilbur immediately coughs for air.

“I fucking hate that helmet, it’s so hard to breath,” He complains (some would say immediately breaking the cool paragraph that I just wrote that was edgy and cool) and his brother sighs.

“Yeah well, it keeps the cold out and that’s what we needed. Plus if anyone came across us, we’d be ready,” Technoblade says and Wilbur coughs again, cloth tight in his arms.

“We need a fire, we’ll freeze if we just sit in the empty cave,” Wilbur says and Techno nods before putting his helmet on and going back outside. Wilbur huddles the cloth closer to his chest and sighs a shaky breath.

They had done it. The Esempe Empire was no more. But so was the Antarctic Empire. They hadn’t even seen their father escape, they had run through the anonymous, armoured, dead bodies on the floor to escape. They had been still fighting, but it wasn’t a battle worth fighting anymore, on either team. There were 15 of them left from both empires and those 15 were so exhausted, yet they still kept fighting to see who would be the victor.

Almost like it had mattered. Not like both Empires had been diminished in the war.

Techno comes back soon and starts a fire and as it gets bigger, he takes his armour off to only have clothes on underneath and takes out two large, fur lined coats from his bag.

He puts one on and rests the other to hug Wilbur’s shoulders. Wilbur nods his appreciation and shakes before inching closer towards the fire. Techno grabs a piece of his armour and chucks it into the burning fire and the two watch his metal armour slowly melt.

“Why did you do that?” Wilbur asks quietly and Techno sighs, pulling the large fluffy coat closer to himself.

“No more war, no more fighting. So hopefully, that means no more armour,” Techno says, matching the quietness of his brother's voice. “We’re further away enough for no one to recognize us, in or out of armour and the snow should stop tonight so we should be able to walk with the coats fine.”

“We literally have the Antarctic Empires logo on the back of those coats,” Wilbur replies, frowning and Techno shrugs.

“Hopefully, that’ll give us brownie points if anyone realises we’re travelling from a fallen Empire and might give us somewhere to stay when we reach a town. We should get to the closest town midday tomorrow,” His brother replies and Wilbur nods before looking down and moving the cloth away slightly to reveal a tiny baby with a tuft of blonde hair, sleeping soundly.

“Do you think it was all worth it? All those deaths, all that war, for him?” Wilbur questions quietly and Techno walks over behind him and smiles softly.

“I’d fight a thousand more wars for him,” He replies and Wilbur smiles softly.

“Do you think the Prophecy was right?” Wilbur asks.

“That he’ll grow up to be king of the world?” Techno adds and Wilbur nods.

“He just seems so small,” He murmurs and Techno hugs his brother from behind him, head resting on his shoulder to overlook the tiny boy.

“When we’re done with him, he’ll be big and strong,” Techno comforts and Wilbur nods.

“Smart and kind too,” Wilbur adds and Techno smiles.

“Of course.”

------------------------------------------------6 Months Later-------------------------------------------------

“Tommy, don't run off!” Wilbur says and rolls his eyes as the little toddler waddles away towards the ducks before Technoblade comes up behind him and scoops him up into his arms. The boy screams with delight as Techno spins around, Tommy high in the air, before placing him down. The boy smiles widely and tries to run towards Wilbur, but he’s dizzy so instead he falls over.

Techno doesn’t help Tommy as he helps himself up, not a tear to be found before running into Wilbur’s arms. Wilbur scoops him up and smiles before they hear a bell ringing and he shoots a scared look over to his brother, who takes a deep breath.

“They’ve found us Tech.” Wilbur says and Techno nods before running into the house, Wilbur comforting Tommy at the strange change in the atmosphere, and coming back out a few minutes later with a sword on his hip and a backpack that he swings onto Wilbur’s back, who easily moves Tommy in his arms to put it on.

They knew this would happen, they were lucky that they had such a grace period of 6 months in the same small town. No one had batted an eye when the two boys had come in with their ‘baby brother’ seeking refuge from their Empire that just collapsed because of war. Of course, now, another Empire had figured out the prophecy of the king of the world and had come to take him from the last two soldiers of the Antarctic Empire.

There had been rumours that two Antarctic Empire soldiers had taken the baby from the Esempe Empire (who had planned to kill the child) and ran away from the war, leaving them to die to the Esempe Army (which did happen).

The Antarctica Empire was no more and neither was the Esempe Empire. Villagers had to leave to others, kings and princes and any heirs, dead in the sea of bodies.

Most people however, assumed that the baby had been killed by the last remains of Esempe Soldiers before the Antarctic Soldiers could get to it and therefore the war had been a massive waste of lives.

Some people were happy with this rumour, others were devastated.

The two boys walk quickly towards the forest, flicking their hoods up off their coats, the weather still cold in the nearly constantly icey town, and walking off into it. Tommy stays quiet, a bit confused but quiet, as they walk through the forest, not saying a word. Techno holds his sword handle tight in his hands and Wilbur holds onto Tommy as they walk quickly. It won't be long until the confused villagers point to the only house that has ex-Antarctic Empire residents and then the soldiers of the Dream Empire to chase after them. Another Empire, Like Esempe, that wanted Tommy dead.

Techno hears yelling and the two start running through the bush, their war instincts and training kicking in after the 10 months off the battlefield. Tommy clings to Wilbur’s shirt and Wilbur holds both of his hands to his chest to hold him tightly as the two dash through the forest but soon enough, there are horses close behind them.

“Techno why didn’t we grab a horse!” Wilbur exclaims and Techno rolls his eyes.

“If you wanted a horse then you should have asked me, you didn’t think about grabbing one until you saw one!” He yells back and Wilbur scoffs as they keep running, arrows now being shot at them, even though they dramatically miss every single time.

“We need to lose them!” Techno says and Wilbur nods before jumping up into a tree and Technoblade keeps running, most of the horses chasing him except one, who pauses as the soldier looks up to find Wilbur. Wilbur kicks the man in the head and he falls off, unconscious and Wilbur jumps from the tree onto the back of the horse. The horse squeals and Tommy giggles loudly, still clinging onto Wilbur’s shirt and Wilbur smiles before grabbing the reins with one hand and following the others.

When he feels like he’s got enough control of the horse just with his legs and kicking, he reaches into the bag on the back of the horse for supplies, using one hand to hold onto Tommy and one to look through the bag, using his core strength and legs to hold onto the horse that’s speeding towards the others. He grins when he finds a few throwing knives.

Wilbur throws the first one and it narrowly misses the closest man's back which Wilbur grunts at before throwing another and it stabs him and the man’s horse quickly sturs off path when the man falls off.

The third knife misses but a fourth hits a man’s head, someone who had stupidly taken off his helmet and nearly instantly he’s no longer a threat. Only one left and one knife, which Wilbur throws and misses.

“One last guy!” Wilbur shouts to Techno and he turns around and spots that the only other horse following him had Wilbur and little Tommy on top. Techno stops and the last man grins before grabbing out his sword and jumping off his horse to walk over to Techno, who had walked into a tall grassy clearing.

Wilbur’s horse pauses next to the other but the man doesn’t even notice as he walks towards Techno. Techno, on his part, looks bored out of his mind.

“I’m going to kill you, apocalypse bringer,” He says and Techno raises an eyebrow.

“That’s what we’re being called for keeping a child alive?” He asks and the fight begins, if you can count it as that. It’s really one brief stab from Techno and the man is down, dead.

Wilbur’s horse trots over to Techno, pulling the man's other horse along.

“He didn’t put up much of a fight did he?” Wilbur says and Techno kicks the dead man’s body.

“I told you the best soldiers were our own. That and maybe Esempe. None of the other Empires really stand even close to us. They’re all undertrained,” Techno says as he gets onto the empty horse, Tommy looking over the horse and Wilbur’s arm to look at the body.

“Maybe we’re just too good,” Wilbur says as he passes Techno the reins and he shakes his head.

“Wil, we haven’t trained or done any combat since we got Tommy which is like, 6 and a bit months ago, we’re a little bit rusty. How could we so easily have taken down that team..” Techno says and Wilbur frowns as he gets his horse moving, Techno following beside him. Instead of continuing the conversation, Wilbur looks down and smiles at the toddler, who was looking over at Techno. Techno notices and smiles softly and waves at the child who then smiles and giggles and then looks up at Wilbur.

“Do you wanna ride with Techno?” He asks and all the toddler does is let go of Wilbur and do grabby hands at Techno, so Wilbur picks him up and passes him over to Techno. Tommy stands up on Techno’s lap (with Techno’s help) to play with Techno’s hair and the fur lining Techno’s coat. Techno smiles as the toddler talks nonsense and runs his hand through the faux fur.

-----------------------------------------------2.5 Years Later-------------------------------------------------

“Are we there yet?” Tommy asks and Techno sighs.

“You asked 5 minutes ago,” He replies and Tommy looks down at his hand, trying to count his fingers before holding up one of his hands to Techno.

“This many minutes?” He asks and Techno nods.

“Yup, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!” He says, counting Tommy’s fingers and Tommy nods, satisfied and turns around before frowning and turning around again.

“Wait what’s 5?”

“5 minutes ago you asked if we were there yet. We’ll be there in around 12 minutes,” He replies and Tommy frowns deeply, counting his fingers before looking devastated.

“That’s more than the fingers on my hands!” He exclaims and Techno smiles and ruffles his hair.

“It’s not that many more minutes, you’ll live,” He says and Tommy shakes his head.

“No I won't, my legs hurt so much, they’ll fall off!” He replies and Wilbur looks up from the map.

“The faster you walk, the faster we’ll get there,” he says and Tommy frowns, thinking it over before running in the direction they were walking. Techno sighs.

“Now I’m going to have to keep up with him before we lose him,” He says and Wilbur grins at him and shrugs.

“Well yeah, that’s why I’m on map duty and you’re on child duty,” He replies and Techno rolls his eyes.

“If you told me three years ago that you would be telling me that I’m on child duty, I probably would have jumped off a cliff,” Techno jokes and Wilbur laughs which makes Tommy pause ahead of them.

“You were so grumpy and tough when we were in the army, you probably would have been the last person assigned to this kid,” Wilbur says and Techno shrugs.

“I’m not upset because you’re not lying, but not like you’d be any better. Remember they’d all whisper about you because they thought you would probably raise him to destroy everyone,” He replies and Wilbur laughs and nods. They don’t even realise Tommy is walking with them again.

“Well yeah but I probably would have, back in the day. No one knew what the war was gonna be like, who knew the two of us would be looking after him,” He says and Tommy frowns.

“What do you mean?” He asks and they both pause for a moment.

“You’ll understand when you’re older,” Wilbur says and Techno nods. Tommy just frowns.

“Why wouldn’t you have looked after me? You’re my brothers!”

“Don’t be silly Tommy, of course we’re your brothers,” Wilbur says, looking up to Techno for help (he is met with a face of freaking out).

“We just mean- probably our parents would look after you, not us. We would be exploring the world,”

“Why haven’t I met our parents?” Tommy asks and Wilbur looks up ahead.

“I’ll tell you later, besides, look what's ahead of us!” Wilbur says, pointing at the large house up on the hill. Tommy frowns before turning around and gasping and running up to the large wooden house.

When they get to it, Techno roughly pushes open the abandoned door, it creaking loudly and dragging on the floor. Wilbur walks past him and sighs as he puts down his backpack.

“Oh the old summer home, didn’t you miss this Techno?” Wilbur asks and Techno shrugs.

“I barely remember anything anymore, I barely remember last week,” Techno says and Wilbur frowns as he takes some pain killers from his pocket and swigs them down with a sip of his drink bottle.

“You worry me sometimes Tech, we spent most of our time here before we joined the army,” Wilbur replies and Techno rubs his face with his hands as Tommy runs around the house.

“We were forced to join the army Wil, all three of us were. We haven’t been here since we were, which was what? 6 years ago?”

“We were 12 when we were last here Tech, so 7 years ago since we’ve been here, 6 since we joined the army,”

“More than 3 since we got this headache,” Techno replies as Tommy falls over, before standing up and stomping on the floor for tripping him. Techno and Wilbur smile as he continues to run around.

“We’ll make him a headache for the rest of the world one day,” Wilbur says and Techno nods.

“He’ll be king of the world.”
