For One Night Only

Summary:

Izumi Tachibana is no longer an actor, there's no question about that. But when Tsuzuru proposes a new project that has her standing on stage alongside Spring Troupe, she can't bring herself to reject it.

This fic uses Hyacynthia’s yaycupcake workskin. Please check them out, it's really cool!

Chapter 1

Notes:

The only real act 12 spoilers here are related to the outcome of Yukio’s plotline. If you’ve read SSR Family, there’s nothing new here.

I’ve been super excited about this fic for a while, so I’m glad I can finally post it! Chapters will be uploaded in twos.

Chapter Text

Izumi: Do you have to go? It’s not fair…

Yukio: I’ll be back before you know it.

Izumi: You always say that.

Yukio: I can’t stay. You know I’m needed at the theatre.

Izumi: Can’t I come with you? I want to play at the theatre too.

Yukio: You wouldn’t have any fun. Besides, you need to go to school.

Izumi: I’ll miss you.

Yukio: I know. I’ll miss you lots and lots too.

Izumi:

Yukio: Look, don’t cry. We’ll have lots of fun when I come back, won’t we? Why don’t you plan some things for us to do?

Izumi:

Yukio: I really need to go, or I’ll miss the train.

Izumi: Bye…

Yukio: I’ll be back as soon as I can.

Izumi:

(Why does Daddy always have to go so far away? I know he’s always needed at the theatre, but…)

(I need him too.)

(Does that not matter?)

Yukio: “Anyway, I’ll be returning to Japan soon.”

Izumi: Great. See you soon, then.

Oh, by the way, I have tickets to see a friend’s show. It’s a matinee next Saturday. If you’re free, maybe we could go together?

Yukio: “That sounds like a great idea. Maybe we should book somewhere to eat after?”

Izumi: Yeah.

Yukio: ”Where do you feel like going? Don’t worry about the price, I’ll take care of it.”

Izumi: I don’t mind. I think I’ve tried most of the places around here now.

Yukio: “Exactly. You have your finger on Veludo’s pulse, so I’ll leave it to you.”

Izumi: … I’ll take a look online later then.

Tsuzuru: Director, could I talk to you for a minute?

Izumi: Sure. What’s up?

Tsuzuru: We had an idea during practice earlier. Since Last Planet, we’ve all wanted to try something a little different, and we liked the idea of putting on a performance just for the rest of the troupe.

If we made it small-scale, I think we could fit it in among rerun practices and the like.

Izumi: To perform with a different type of audience in mind?

Tsuzuru: Yeah, that’s it. We thought it would shake things up a bit.

Izumi: I guess that could be an interesting idea, as long as everyone makes sure not to overwork themselves.

Tsuzuru: Plus, Banri could have a try directing it. Since it would be short and there wouldn’t be audience reception to worry about, it should be fairly manageable for him.

Izumi: Have you mentioned that to him yet?

Tsuzuru: No, I thought I’d go through you first. Sakuya was going to talk to him later.

lzumi: Hmm. Okay. Were you just thinking Spring Troupe for this one?

Tsuzuru: Yeah, everyone thinks they can find the time.

Well. Spring Troupe and…

Izumi: And?

Tsuzuru: Um. We were actually thinking we could change things up a bit and maybe have you take part too…?

Izumi: I mean, that’s fine, but what would I be doing if Banri is directing?

Tsuzuru: No, not as a director…

Izumi: Wait, you don’t mean… A-as an actor!? Me?

Tsuzuru: It wouldn’t be serious! Just one performance, and it wouldn’t be open to the general public. You were fine when you had to act for White Day, right?

Izumi: Sure, but that wasn’t the same!

(Standing on the stage at that theme park was one thing, but our theatre is…)

Tsuzuru: If you don’t want to do it then it’s fine, but we thought maybe it could be fun. Acting alongside us could give you a new perspective on directing.

Izumi: Well, maybe, but I left the acting world for a reason. Years ago.

Tsuzuru: That’s why we thought working with you would be good practice for Banri.

Izumi: Urk…

(I guess… I’m not completely against the idea? If it’s only the troupe there… And it would be nice for Banri to work with someone on a different level to the rest of the troupe.)

(And there’s no way I’ll ever take part in an actual play with anyone. Maybe it would be fun to try…?)

(Well, it probably won’t go well, but I’m sure Tsuzuru is only talking about a small role. It should give everyone a laugh anyway.)

You know what? Fine. If Sakyo gives everything the go-ahead, I’m happy to do it. But you know exactly what you’ve gotten yourself in for.
