Work Text:
Even though he felt the date was ironic, Nagito liked his birthday. It was a day of peace in the chaos of his life.
The bell ringed. The school day had ended. Nagito sat himself down on a bench where he usually watched birds fly amongst each other. Today wasn’t such a day. The remnants of the rain of spring gently dripped from the rooftops and onto the cobblestone pavement. The sky was cloudy. He liked it.
Nobody had remembered his birthday. He chuckled. If their teacher Chisa were here today, she would’ve made sure it was known. She was just that insistent and kind. But celebration or no celebration, Nagito felt fine with either. It didn’t matter much…
Nagito drummed his fingers on the fabric of his book bag. He should be heading home by now.
He slung the bag over his shoulder and took a couple of steps before hearing a pattern of rapid steps behind him.
He turned around, to be met with the sight of Chiaki herself. Her soft features carried a determined expression.
Nagito slightly tilted his head. “Oh? What’s up, Chiaki?”
She panted quietly. “...” Digging inside the contents of her bag, she retrieved a neatly wrapped present. “...I can’t believe that I almost forgot. Here,”
Taken aback, Nagito took the parcel with grateful hands. “...T-Thank you so much!” The landscape looked slightly blurry to him as he smiled from ear to ear. “I can’t believe… I’m so thankful…”
Chiaki gave a warm smile of her own. “It’s nothing really…”
Haha, when it meant the world?
“Happy birthday, Nagito.”
