The Moon Squad!

Summary:

Witness the adventures of Moon Girl, Moon Boy, Devil Dinosaur, and their close friends as they face and confront various old and new foes!

Chapter 1: Prelude

Hey guys and gals, my name is Lunella Lafayette, though a lot of you may know me better as Moon Girl. One of the smartest kids in this marvellous universe, but probably second to Mister Fantastic himself, Reed Richards, ain't he dreamy as he is stretchy. I probably shouldn't have given his secret identity, or mine for that matter. Anyway, to make a long story short, or to make a medium story slightly less medium, I somehow opened up a portal, far underneath my bedroom no less, to a very distant past. And out of that portal came a really hairy boy and this big red dinosaur.

They called themselves Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur!

Meanwhile, I found out that I had a gene passed down from Inhumans, making me a "NuHuman". Through either my mum or my dad or even both I had yet to find out, but needless to say, I didn't wanna risk ending up looking like a monster on the off-chance that I might end up going through that process they call Terrigenesis. And wouldn't you know it, something went off and happened, and then various clouds of Terrigen mist started appearing around the globe. Those who had inherited Inhuman genes, and most likely hadn't even known about it, got turned into Inhumans themselves when they got a little bit too close and ended up breathing the mist.

So with a little help from my new friends, and my best friend and manager Casey Calderon, I tried to find a way to remove the Inhuman DNA within me. And of course, to say things got a little bit complicated would be putting it mildly. A few bad guys got in the way, and before any of us would even know it, a big fog of Terrigen found its way through New York City, and I was way out in the open. I even tried to hold my breath as a desperate last-ditch effort, but I knew it would be futile. I coughed in the green gas and I soon let the change happen.

Thankfully, my friends, none of which seemed to have any Inhuman genes or DNA, were soon there to retrieve me and nest me in our underground lab while I was in that chrysalis form. After a few days at least, I couldn't exactly remember, I finally hatched free like a butterfly. Miraculously, I didn't become a walking flamethrower or an embiggening polymorph, but I did have to get some new clothes. Don't ask.

Turns out, the power I gained was being able to transfer consciousness between myself and Devil Dinosaur, at least if under extreme and heightened emotion. I had already named myself Moon Girl after this old scientist's nickname from years past. And so, I, along with Moon Boy, Devil Dinosaur, and Casey too, formed our own team, our own Avengers. Working together to help people and stop baddies anywhere.

Chapter 2

Summary:

On top of having to deal with normal life, our heroes learn of other NuHumans appearing ever since the Terrigen event, so they work together and work out these individuals. Meanwhile, Lunella's own roots will be put to the test...

Location: Lower East Side, New York City, New York, United States

Above the vast streets of the big apple, atop one of the many tall buildings in the big city, our three heroes sat casually on the edge as they watched over the skyline. The young dark-skinned girl, thirteen years of age and dressed in an elaborate helmet and costume of grey, blue, yellow and black, held three hot dogs in hand before handing two over to the slightly older boy fully covered in black hair, save for his light-skinned face, bare palms and soles, next to her and the large red-scaled, black-horned and yellow-eyed dinosaur next to him.

"These are called hot dogs", Moon Girl explained to Moon Boy. "They're not actually made of dogs though, but they're still pretty hot".

"Thank you", Moon Boy managed to speak good English as he took both hot dogs offered by Moon Girl and gave one over to Devil Dinosaur, who picked it up with his tongue and munched it a bit before swallowing it, smiling and licking his lips and teeth.

"Our pal certainly enjoys them", Moon Girl commented to Moon Boy and speaking to Devil Dinosaur. "Don't cha, big guy?"

In response, Devil Dinosaur let out a light grunt while nodding and panting like a dog. Moon Boy himself could very easily understand such noises that Devil Dinosaur made, as if it were a whole other language that while he wouldn't necessarily speak but still be able to interpret. And even Moon Girl could still understand some of Devil Dinosaur's sounds and expressions as well, from the times and experience she had spent with him so far.

However, during their moment of leisure and relaxation, as soon as they were already finishing up their little snacks, our heroes could hear a few distant yells of panics and even a siren or two somewhere down one of the streets below. Standing up and looking around, the young superheroes soon caught sight of an orange glow from behind one building before something or someone appeared from behind the corner. Running along the road, as if stuck in a state of absolute panic, was a flame vaguely shaped by a small humanoid of sorts.

"Is that a running fire, I see?" Moon Boy asked.

"Yeah maybe, kinda looks like the Human Torch, almost", Moon Girl noticed as she observed the inhuman figure with her hi-tech goggles while briefly pondering with curiosity. "Come on, guys, let's go take a closer look, and maybe stop a fire or two. This looks like a job for... The Moon Squad!" She cried out with prowess, closed fists on hips, and a gleeful smile on her face.

Moon Girl and Moon Boy hopped onto Devil Dinosaur's tail before they both sat on the red reptilian's back, holding on tight as he leapt down the building and onto the streets. Spotting the figure up ahead, the Dinosaur chased on.

Flashback

Location: Intermediate School 833

A good while back, at the middle school where Lunella, many of her friends, and other fellow students went to, the bell had already rung and various children of various classes took pace and fled out of their respective classrooms into the hallways. However, during this recess break time, in one of the ladies' lavatories, stood two girls, already into their adolescence, were up to not much good.

The slightly older and taller girl, with somewhat tanned skin and long wavy black hair that went down passed her shoulders, wore a peach-white v-neck top and greyish-blue tight jeans within a pistachio-green blazer whose rolled sleeves ended at the elbows as well as black derby shoes. The other slightly younger and shorter girl, with lighter skin and orange pixie-cut hair, wore a black short-sleeved T-shirt with cherry symbols decorated all around it, a lavender double-layered skirt, and grey ankle boots with black soles. Both girls had their own mini-bag, hanging onto the taller girl's left shoulder was one of mauve colour, while hanging onto the shorter girl's right shoulder was one of sky-blue.

From inside her mini-bag, the older girl pulled out a matchbox, and from inside that matchbox, she pulled out a single match. While she was clearly grinning at the thought of setting it off, especially in such a place like the school environment, the other girl was tensed up and almost grimacing at the idea, not just the consequences of what would happen to the campus itself, but also what would happen if they were found out to be the culprits. But before she even had a second to verbally object to this, the older girl ran the match against the box's side-surface and before either knew it, a small flame had been lit and nothing else more.

"See, Sasha? Told you", the taller girl said.

"Okay, Lily", the shorter girl replied. "You made your point, now can you please put that out now?"

"In a minute", Lily dismissed. "Just grab me a paper towel first".

"If you're gonna do what I think you're gonna do, I won't", Sasha refused.

"Oh come on, trust me", Lily assured. "I'll be careful with it. I promise". Then, rather swiftly and quickly without much caution, Lily chucked the match right into one of the toilets, instantly distinguishing the tiny flame entirely. "See? Easy to light up, equally easy to put out". She said casually as she hid the matchbox back into her bag again.

"Yeah yeah, I get it", Sasha sighed and huffed. "So can we now get to our next class?"

"Allright, sweetie", Lily flirted, causing Sasha's face to blush a hint of pink, before exiting the room with the slightly flushed Sasha following close enough behind.

Location: Lower East Side, New York City, New York, United States

Timedate: Present Day, Present Time

The pace was high and the chase was on. A short humanoid figure seemingly comprised of hot burning yellow-orange flame hurtling down a street with a face that clearly showed a hint of panic and distress, incidentally leaving footprints of fire and throwing fire all about from the sprinting. Close enough behind stomped a big, red-scaled and black-horned theropod, and straddling on his back was a young human girl in a bright and colourful suit of yellow, cyan, blues and black and gloves of red, and a slightly older male Australopithecine by a year at most, completely covered in ebony-black hair save for his face, palms, and soles.

"C'mon, Devil Dino!" Moon Girl cried forth at her reptilian companion, pointing her red boxing-glove-clad hands up and forth. "We gotta stop that thing before it ends up turning the whole city into one big bonfire!"

Hearing such an order loud and clear, Devil Dinosaur kept on stomping and huffing, following the fiery trail left behind by that unknown entity, while he himself tried not to leave as much indented footprints of his own in the road as well as dodge and avoid any cars or other obstacles in the way. The flaming being itself briefly halted for a bit, frantically looking around at whatever direction it could go. Nevertheless, the Moon Squad soon managed to catch up to the being, with Devil Dinosaur leaping over the small being and standing in front of it before Moon Boy and Moon Girl hopped off of him and posed defiantly.

"Halt, strange creature", Moon Boy ordered, raising an open hand. "

"You heard the boy", Moon Girl added with arms folded and crossed. "You better hold it right there and explain what the heck you are, and why you're causing such a racket".

"Stop... Wait..." The flame being spoke, a fragile and youthful feminine voice. "Please... Help... me..."

Hearing such a voice, and hearing such words, the Moon Squad trio would soon taken off by surprise. They could only stand still and stare silently and awkwardly.

"What the...? Did you just actually talk? And why do you sound familiar?" Moon Girl uttered before she used her magenta goggles once more to scan this being. "According to my 4D Glasses, you certainly have a solid form underneath all that fire". Looking closely, she could that this flame-girl was only a tad taller than her, roughly about as tall as Moon Boy.

"Something... happened to... me", the fiery being spoke once more, almost staggering.

"What happened exactly?" Moon Girl's goggle eyes narrowed.

Just then, another young female voice cried out from somewhere, catching all four's attention. "Wait, stop!" Far behind the fiery girl and following the trail of dying flames was another girl, an orange-redhead, waving high and running towards the four. "I've been looking for you!"

The flame-girl recognised. "Sasha?"

Flashback

Location: Yancy Street

Later on that day, after the whole little match situation in the ladies' toilets and the school day had already been done, the two girls, Lily and Sasha, walked on their way home along the pavement side-by-side before taking a left turn around the corner and into a certain street considered familiar by many people. The sun itself had already sunk away into the horizon, giving way to the blue hour of twilight. As if to prepare of the dark shades of night, each lamppost was already lighting up one-by-one, towering over any of the people like large matchsticks.

"Did it just get...cold...all of a sudden?" Sasha shivered as she tried to keep close to Lily.

"We're almost there", Lily assured her girlfriend once more.

"Holy smokes!" Sasha yelped, pointing towards something she could see encroaching towards her and Lily from straight up ahead. Creeping down towards the two girls was a large turquoise-green smoke, floating gracefully yet almost uncannily as if it had a life its own, causing Sasha to take a few steps back and almost stumbling.

"Let's double back", Lily suggested as she too took a single wobbly step back. "I think that's that Terrigen stuff".

"Looks like candy floss", Sasha commented.

But as the two girls took a turn back the other way, they could see another vapouring mist creeping down from behind as well and trapping them. Just as either girl knew it so, the cloud was already encircling them from all sides like a pack of predators surrounding their single prey. Both girls considering making a break for it at any direction they could go for, but neither could make any move as the vapours were already closing in, becoming so dense that the girls couldn't see their much of the surrounding area or even each other.

Having heard about this recently released cloud and what effects it had on certain people, a thought darted through Lily's enticed mind. "Sasha, do you think it's possible that one of us might-" But before she could even finish her question, Lily began coughing as soon as the fog made contact with her.

"Don't breathe it in, Lily!" Sasha tried to warn, but even sheinhaled the mist and ended up coughing as well.

From the very moment she had breathed up the vapour, Lily felt something cold and churning within her, forcing her to clutch at herself. "Sasha, I- I feel-" Lily stammered before she noticed about herself that made her eyes widen and her mouth gape in horror.

Emerging from her bare ankles, wrists, and chest, green swellings appeared as sticky tendrils started coiling around her trembling legs, arms, and neck. As they began to wrap around her clothed body, Lily tried to reach out for Sasha, even if she couldn't see her, but the tendrils soon restrained her arms closely before closing in around her panicked face.

"Lily!" Sasha called and reached out, unable to see her girlfriend. "Lily! Where are you?" As the vapours soon finally started to clear away and move on, Sasha frantically looked around, only see something having now just appeared when and where Lily had l ast generally stood and disappeared from sight . A freshly formed green cocoon about as tall as she was, if not slightly taller than her. Realising what may've happened, Sasha could only gawk in dread. "Lily?"
