“Can you explain to me what this is?” Adam said, his voice deadly calm, the flyers in his hand unceremoniously thrown over the top of Yana’s desk. Even without looking at them, she already know what the flyers contain. After all, she’s the one who gave them across the town.
Despite being guilty, Aryana opted to feign ignorance. “What’s the matter?” She inquired, looking at him sweetly, biting the inside of her cheek, hoping and praying that Adam can tell that she’s lying.
His anger only barely restrained, Adam gritted his teeth and answered, “Take a very good look at it, Detective. And then you tell me what the hell the matter is.” He punctuated his point by slapping his hand down at the flyers. Looking down at the papers in her desk slowly, Aryana has to bite her lower lip to avoid laughing out loud at the contents of the flyers. In it was a photo-shopped picture of Adam wearing a Santa Claus costume. She asked for Felix’s help in acquiring a photo of Adam standing and Tina’s help in photo-shopping it. She didn’t know why Adam was so mad about it, she thought he looked very cute and rather dashing, despite the flowing, white beard and red hat and Santa costume. “Why does this flyer say that Santa’s going to have a meet-and-greet in the Town Square? And why does that Santa have my face? And don’t try to deny that you don't know anything about this. That’s the Wayhaven Police Department’s logo, and I already asked Officer Poname about it.”
Whipping her head instantly to look outside her office, she saw Tina watching the two of them through the window, her hands clasped together as if in prayer, and her lips are turned into an apologetic smile.
Crap.
Looks like there’s no getting out of this. She didn’t expect him to find out right away. She was hoping to tell him later, after she had buttered him up with praises and made him a little more agreeable to her proposition.
“So…,” she started slowly. Pursing her lips, she continued. “You’re getting to dress up as Santa.”
“What in the heavens are you talking about?”
Fiddling with her fingers, Yana thought how best to tackle this situation to get what she wants. Taking a deep breath, she answered, “Yearly, the department conducts a Christmas event for the whole town. But with all the budget cuts this year, even the allotted budget for the Santa impersonator was removed, so we had no choice but to find a suitable replacement for him,” she paused, turning to walk around her desk to stand beside him. Placing her hands on his arms, she squeezed it a little and gave Adam a sweet smile. Yana saw the moment the Commanding Agent’s breath hitched when she touched him, his green eyes showing his inner turmoil of staying angry at her or giving in to her warmth. Feeling a little confident that she’s winning this battle, she added, “Besides, who else can still look commanding and sweet at the same time while wearing that costume but you? You’ve already got that huggable teddy bear-look right in the bag.”
Finally realizing what she’s doing, Adam scoffed and took a step backwards to let Yana’s hands fall in the space between them. He wondered how he can feel guilty at moving away from her while still being angry at what she did. “Stop antagonizing me, Detective. You can’t convince me to do this stupid thing.”
Oh, just wait and see, Mr. du Mortain. By the end of this day, you’re gonna agree and be this year’s Santa.
He turned away from her and started walking towards the door to her office. “Isn’t your shift over already? Get your stuff. I’m taking you home.” He said gruffly.
The Detective packed up her things quickly and made to follow Adam outside the station. While on her way out, Tina intercepted her and said immediately, “I’m so sorry! I panicked!”
“Don’t worry, it’s not your fault. I should’ve asked him first.”
Pouting, Tina asked. “So did we just lose our last hope? There’s not gonna be a Santa for the meet-and-greet tomorrow?”
Yana clicked her tongue twice while shaking her head. She placed her hand above Tina’s shoulders and said with a smirk, “Leave it to me. I can still convince him.”
“I’m buying you a drink the next time we go out if you can do it!”
Chuckling, Yana pushed the doors open and answered, “I’ll hold you to that.” She turned and went outside, going straight to her car where Adam is waiting.
“You do know that there’s nothing you can say that can convince me otherwise, don’t you?” The Commanding Agent asked, his eyebrow cocked, obviously listening to her conversation with Tina.
Opting not to answer, Yana went inside the car and sat in the driver’s seat, starting the engine, with Adam sitting himself in the passenger seat. The two enjoyed the serene silence together, enjoying each other’s company. Trying a different tactic, the Detective let Adam stew for a moment, thinking that she’ll make her move later when they’re in the apartment.
They arrived at Yana’s apartment, no one still breaking the silence. The Detective went straight to her bedroom to change, with Adam settling himself in her sofa to wait for her to come out again. A few minutes passed and Yana still hasn’t come out, so the Commanding Agent decided to knock on her door and call out, “Detective?”
“Come in. The door’s unlocked.”
Opening the door, Adam half-expected Yana to be lying on her bed already. But what he didn’t expect was the flimsy nightgown she was going to wear to sleep. Heat immediately creeping up on his cheeks, turning him beet red, the Commanding Agent had to cough a little to clear his nerves. “I apologize, Detective. I didn’t know that you were resting already.” He said, averting his eyes to avoid looking at her directly. Try as he might though, his line of sight always fall back on her beautiful form, his vision magnetized on her astounding beauty. No matter how many times he had seen Yana in this situation before, it had never lost its effect, it still manages to leave him trembling on his knees.
“I’m cold,” she said sweetly. “Can you cuddle me?”
His breath hitched at her proposition. “N-no.” He answered, although his voice cracked. “No.” He repeated his answer more firmly.
Aryana visibly pouted and asked, “Are you still angry at me about the posters?”
Only now remembering about their dispute earlier – but god, her look in front of him was a really good distraction – he frowned and said, “I’m still not doing that.”
“I know that already. Now will you finally cuddle me?” She whined.
Adam was really hesitant to give in to her demands, for he knows that Aryana would never drop something she set her mind into. After all, she had managed to wait for him. Waited until he can finally accept his own feelings and do something about it. Waited until he can finally stop denying himself – and her – the happiness that they can both achieve together. She’s stubborn that way. But it’s one of the things he loves about her.
Sighing, he stepped forward towards the bed and sat on its edge, removing his boots. He shrugged off his jacket and placed them on the chair beside her bed together with his aviators. Lying down next to her, he begrudgingly opened his arms wide and she immediately burrowed herself into his side. Adam can’t help it but smile at her immediate reaction, his dimples showing slightly.
“I have a surprise for you,” she whispered, her head still pressed on the crook of his neck.
“What is it?”
“Ta-da!” She exclaimed, her hand dangling above them. On it was a mistletoe sprig.
Adam’s eyes narrowed, even though his arms that were curled on her didn’t even loosen a little. “Was this all just part of your elaborate plan? I’m still angry at you, Detective. I’m not going to kiss you under the mistletoe.”
“Won’t you? Really?”
“I won’t.”
“Not even if I do this?” She kissed him in the cheek. “Or this?” She turned to his forehead. “Or even this-?”
Before she could even kiss him on the nose, Adam had already steadied her face and kissed her full in the lips. Smiling in between the kiss, Yana can already feel success in her grasp. But it won’t ever stop her from enjoying the kiss from Adam. She had waited for a very long time before reaching this level of relationship with him. She’s not going to take all of this moments for granted. Dropping the mistletoe behind him, Yana placed her hand on Adam’s nape, caressing it softly. Her other hand she placed on his chest, where he can feel his thundering heartbeat drumming in time with hers. Breaking the kiss to breathe, the Detective pulled back a little and gave the Commanding Agent a sweet smile. Not really one to miss an opportunity to make him blush even harder, she said, “I really do love you.”
She watched as Adam’s face got even redder than before. But now, her previously emotionally-repressed man is making milestones in the relationship. He’s finally more vocal about his feelings, courtesy of all the almost-dying she did during their “will they, won’t they” phase. He caressed her jaw and her cheek, and she leaned in instantly into it, his warm hands adding more to the heat in the room. “And I, you.” He stated firmly, his green eyes filled with burning intensity.
The couple spent the whole night tangled in each other’s embrace.

The next morning, Yana was helping the Commanding Agent get into his costume, although the long, white beard feels irritating and itchy at his overly-sensitive skin. Adam can only shake his head, not knowing what his life had come to, to be in this predicament. But watching how Yana is fussing over him, asking him if he is comfortable or if he needs anymore help, he can’t help but smile and think that even though it feels weird and loving someone feels a lot like losing control, he will never, ever regret his decision because the Detective had bewitched him, body and soul.
