“We… we can run away! We can hop on one of those weekly trains and never come back to this shit town- just the two of us!” Carla urged, taking Penny’s hands in hers and smiling wildly. Tears still trickled down her cheeks, but no longer did their cause affect her in that moment full of pure hope for solace and freedom with her beloved friend.
“Can we really do that? I mean, what about money? A-and shelter? Carla, I…“ Penny stumbled on her words, calculating her own worries in her head as the other girl’s attitude started to shift to desperation. “I could get a job? I’ve got experience with mechanics and know how desperate some people can get for just a few of the pills mi abuelo has so many bottles of- we can stay in a tent, or a shed, or a laundry matte or something… just-“ she sighed in resignation, “Yeah, I guess it was a stupid plan, i'm sorry for even-“
“No, let's do it, Carla. Let’s run away and never come back- I don’t ever wanna see this place again!” Penny spit with indignation, throwing her arms around Carla suddenly, to the latina’s surprise.
