Chapter Text
It feels warm.
Mari woke up groggily from her deep slumber, an arm was thrown across her torso, comfortably settled like the person beside her doesn’t want to let her go. She turned her head to the person beside her and all she saw was a mop of layered, black hair and back full of freckles, the rest of his body was turned away from her, except the arm hooked on her. Blinking the sleep away, her eyes shoot open instantly, quickly realizing that she fell asleep on someone else’s bed. Shit. That wasn’t meant to happen. She’s an enjoy-the-sex-and-leave-before-they-wake-up kind of girl. Always leave them wanting for more, she says. But fuck, she must’ve been more tired than she anticipated if she fell asleep until – she fumbles under the pillow quietly in search for her phone, found it and look at it and what – it’s fucking 9am already! How the heck had she managed to sleep this long?! Slowly and carefully removing the arm across her torso, she heard the person beside her speak suddenly, making her shriek in surprise.
“Sweetheart, relax, it’s me.”
Fuck.
Her mind finally catching up to the present, Mari looked around and remembered where she was – Mason’s room. Heavy curtains block the windows that are already covered with an opaque mesh, so it still looks like nighttime inside. The wind may have been howling outside and they still wouldn’t know it. The only light in the room is coming from the bathroom, but with the door closed, she can only see it through the tiny space below the door. She’s been sleeping here whenever Eos and she were staying in the Warehouse. Chuckling deeply, the man beside her shuffled slowly to turn towards her. Even with his eyes closed, Mason had that infuriating smirk on his face, the arm across her pressing heavier in her torso.
“Leaving so soon?” He said with amusement, pulling her closer towards him.
Mari had the decency to be embarrassed and groan loudly, “Ugh, I’m sorry. Old habits die hard, I guess.” She tucked her head under Mason’s chin and hugged him closer too.
He snorted at that and lightly pressed a kiss on her forehead. “I know. Thought for a second that you’re leaving me already, though,” he snickered.
“Hey! I said sorry already,” Mari protested with a light slap on his arm.
Slightly pulling away from her, Mason opened his eyes and gazed at her with mirth, his mouth still turned in that infuriating smirk that she’s come to love. Even after months of being together, Mari still hasn’t comprehended how she came into this position. When they first met, she had told Mason that she has never and will ever be sleeping with vampires. Funny how that turned out. A year later, and she’s here, her limbs tangled with a vampire, and she doesn’t want to change a thing about that. His grey eyes that are focused on her intensely was so full of adoration and satisfaction – like he, too, has never imagined this situation but doesn’t regret a single thing. She mirrored his smirk with one of her own and slowly closed the gap between them, giving him a quick peck on the chin.
Surprised a little, his eyebrow cocked upwards. “Aww, sweetheart. You have to do better than that,” he objected, that smirk never leaving his face. Mari felt the hand in her back was slowly getting dragged down towards her hip. Pressing circles on it using his thumb, Mason whispered quietly, “You’ve got to compensate me for making me worry for a second.”
Copying his gesture, Mari leisurely traced his arm upwards with her fingers, her motion ending at his chest, placing her palm over his heart. “Still not satisfied with last night’s event?” She jested, cheerfulness in her voice.
“You know I’m always up for an encore with you.” Licking his upper lip slowly, the hand on her hip is now inching slowly towards her butt, which he then squeezed tightly, making her giggle in surprise.
Mari grinned and laughed, “As if you need an excuse for this kind of things.” She brought her hand towards his nape, playing with his long hair while still staring at him with amusement. Gods, why is he so beautiful? To say that he’s handsome would be an understatement. He’s beautiful, like a Greek god is beautiful. Like the different colors of sunset kind-of beautiful. Warmth and affection coloring her mind, Mari just continued playing with his hair, still not used to sharing her musings with other people.
Mason’s ministrations on her hip and butt slowly turned to a stop, his hand resting lightly on her hip. “Even without telepathy, I know you’re thinking of something,” he pecked her on the lips lightly, coaxing a reply out of her. “Say something.”
“Sorry, sunshine,” she chuckled. “Just thinking how beautiful you are.” Mari said with a gentle smile, making him scoff loudly in reply.
“You’re just distracting me so I won’t think about you trying to leave stealthily.”
“Oh no,” she shook her head with a light laugh. “If I’m gonna distract you, I’ll use a more effective method,” she taunted, smiling seductively.
Smirking widely, he goaded, “Do enlighten me.” His hand resuming its ministrations on her hips. After pulling her closer towards him until their bodies are flushed together, he placed his hand on her neck, dragging his fingers on her cheek and jaw. Turning her head upwards to face him, his half-lidded eyes staring at her intensely, he pulled down at her lower lip using his thumb and prompted, “Well?”
Not really knowing how to resist Mason, she smiled, her hand on his nape clutching him tightly and pulled him down. Turning her head slightly to the left, she closed the distance between them and kissed him full in the mouth. Even after kissing Mason for so many times, it never lost its magic – and she knows magic. But gods, kissing Mason is so much better than any spells or potions she’d ever learn. He tastes like sunshine, and rainbows, and shooting stars, and all the good things in life merged into one man – and she can never get enough of him.
His hand on her neck started caressing her jaw slowly, dragging it down to her lower back to pull her tighter towards him. Her body responded to him before she even thought about what she’s doing. Hooking her leg across him, she turned herself and placed her body above him, not even bothering to break the kiss. She can feel him grinning in between kisses, and she smiled at him in return. She still wonders until now how can Mason easily know what she wants and how much tongue to use and what kind of pressure ignites the fire within her. Their hands roaming each other’s bodies, groaning, and grinding together, the couple didn’t even notice the loud footsteps approaching their room.
“MARI! COME OUT! LET’S MAKE SNOW ANGELS! It snowed so much last night!” Felix loudly called outside their door.
Breaking the kiss with a chuckle, Mari pressed her forehead into Mason’s and planted a kiss on his nose. Just starting to lift her torso to get off of him, Mason stopped her by hugging her tighter closer to his chest. Placing her head on his, she turned to face the door and said, “You know, we have this thing called knocking? That’s what doors are for?” Not really one to be deterred by disturbances, Mason kept pressing light kisses on her cheek and neck, making goosebumps erupt on her skin. Neck kisses really are her weakness, and he knows it very much.
Even behind the door, Mari can hear Felix’s thoughts – none of it good. Knocking three times on the door after calling her out, Felix sniggered and exclaimed, “There! Does that scratch your itch? Now can you please come out? Eos is already outside! She said she’ll teach us how to make snow angels!”
She had never heard Mason growl so loudly before, and apparently neither does Felix, judging by the guffaws coming through the door. “Are you nine? Go away,” he angrily demanded. “We’re busy.” Mari heard him let a string of curses in his mind. Slowly bringing her hand towards his head, she ran her fingers through his hair gently to soothe his irritation. A few seconds go by and she heard him release a huff of breathe in contentment.
“You can exchange saliva and smooch faces some other time! Eos and Mari are going back to their apartment later. We can only make the snow angels now!”
Turning to face Mason, she gave him an apologetic smile. Even without speaking, he already knows that she’s gonna leave the bed and make those fucking snow angels with Felix and the Detective, not really knowing how to say no to those two. She gently extricated herself from his hold and called out to the door, “Okay, okay, I’m going. You can go on first. I’ll just follow after I get dressed.”
“Oh no, you don’t. If I leave now and let the two of you by yourselves again, Eos and I would’ve turned into a snowman first before you come out of that room.”
“At least a snowman can’t disturb us again,” Mason grumbled.
“Hey!” Felix slapped the door. “I heard that!”
“You’re supposed to,” he scoffed. “And stop hitting the door! You’re so loud.”
Now sitting on the edge of the bed, Mari planted a soft kiss on Mason’s lips before finally standing up and going to the bathroom to take a quick shower. Rubbing his face with a groan to settle his nerves, Mason heard Felix snickering from behind the door. Figuring out that there’s no getting back the atmosphere they had earlier, at least not now, he got up from the bed and removed the duvet from his body, locating their clothes across the room. Picking up his box of cigarettes from the night stand, he placed a stick to his lips and slowly lit it up. Hearing Mari humming in the bathroom brought a little smirk on his lips, halting what he’s doing for a while. Getting their clothes from the floor, he put his’ on and he placed Mari’s on the bed, and walked towards the bathroom door, debating whether to join her inside or to just wait outside when she spoke, “No, you can’t join me. If you go inside right now, we’re never going to be able to go outside for another hour,” she chuckled a little, “or two.”
“Now you’re just tempting me, sweetheart,” he groaned.
Felix knocked on the door again – startling Mason, he forgot for a second he was there – and said, “Hi, guys. I’m still here.” He cackled.
He heard her laughing inside the bathroom, the sound of shower mixing with her laughs. “Sorry!”
After giving a final groan of disappointment, he took a drag from his cigarette. He had no use of its numbing qualities now, with Mari by his side. But the familiar habit helps soothe his irritation while she's busy taking a quick shower. Mason turned to search for a jacket in his closet, thinking that if it snowed last night, it will be so damn cold outside. The two of them didn’t even notice the snowfall yesterday, too absorbed by the feel of each other. A slow smile overtook his lips when remembering what happened last night. Even though nothing out of ordinary happened, the feeling of being so lost with her is probably Mason’s favorite thing to do.
When the door to the bathroom opened, Mason turned around to see Mari returning his smile, knowing that they’re thinking the same thing. Picking up her clothes from his bed, she put them on and approached him, hugging Mason from behind and placing a kiss on his shoulder blade, the kiss conveying the love and affection the two of them can’t yet express into words. Placing his hand above hers that was around him, he leaned back on her a little before going back to searching for a jacket. Finally finding something that will probably help against the cold, he turned around to face her and shrugged his jacket on.
The look on her face is something that he’ll never get tired of seeing. It’s the look that says a million things without words needing to be said, and all of them being understood. He knows that look well enough by now, and he knows that it’s probably the same look he has whenever he gazes at her.
Smiling at him widely, she offered her hand to him and said, “Shall we?”
“Let’s go, sweetheart,” he took his hand and answered, interlacing their fingers together.
It’s cold outside.
But it will be warm, with her by his side.
