Work Text:

The day was coming to an end, the crimson tones of the sunset were fading away giving way to the cold blue of a night sky. Meanwhile, Atsushi was being taken by his boyfriend to his "last birthday surprise," as he had said.

A few hours before, they had been with the members of the Armed Detective Agency at a somewhat elegant restaurant to celebrate the boy. Fukuzawa had contacted (y/n) weeks before to help plan a good time, and he, being a good partner, found a nice place and even took care of buying Atsushi an outfit for him to dazzle on his day. Even if the birthday boy was more than happy when his friends congratulated him early at work, (y/n) insisted that this was the least he deserved.

They were happy to share that moment, the food was delicious amidst cheerful conversations. A bit of a disaster having constantly to get out Ranpo from the dessert table, Dazai questioning (y/n) for going out with his "protected" (which everyone was quite sure he only said to tease and try to make him nervous), and Kunikida reprimanding and yelling at Dazai for this. Still, Atsushi wouldn't trade his happiness for anything.

The car ride was comfortable, all the birthday gifts and the leftover birthday cake were in the back seats, while his beloved drove, he played music from the taller one's phone, who hummed softly the songs he knew.

The journey lasted just under an hour, and they finally arrived at a village on the outskirts of the city, on a high ground, a village with few inhabitants welcomed them, in the distance, you could see the sea with a few commercial boats sailing on it. Finally, they parked in a large field, there were some large trees distributed around, forming a kind of arch, which despite the fact that the night was already late, you could appreciate that they looked different colors with their large crowns full of leaves of different shapes and sizes, creating a perfect setting.

"This is my gift," (y/n) smiled as he opened the door for Atsushi, who had been lost in thought, observing the landscape that he didn't notice when he got out of the car. After that, he took a few things out of the trunk and then started walking through the wide field, holding his hand.

"Let's go," he said. "This place has a good view of the sea."

"This...this place is beautiful! How did you find a place like this?" Atsushi asked, looking at his partner's face.

"Well... I was looking around here and there, asking my friends and looking at tourist leaflets, but I finally came up with something perfect for us," (y/n) replied, smiling so sweetly that Atsushi felt himself blush, just like the first time he realized that something more than friendship was happening between them.

"It's very nice, thank you," he said, as the taller one started putting a white blanket on the ground, followed by a couple of small baskets. Both took a seat next to each other as (y/n) began unpacking things.

"I asked Kyoka for help me with this," he mentioned as he took out some small sandwiches, as well as desserts like cookies and strawberries in chocolate. "She's really good at this, she mentioned that she really hopes you enjoy it."

His gaze turned to Atsushi, his eyes shining with excitement as he nodded repeatedly. That was cute. "It looks delicious!" he exclaimed, his eyes meeting (y/n)'s, almost seeming to ask permission to eat them. He received a smile in response and quickly took one of the strawberries with the fork, directing it to his lips and savoring it slowly, smiling at the taste. "Mhm! I'll thank her later," And he continued enjoying his small menu. (y/n) was really happy, as his boyfriend seemed to enjoy the picnic, although that was certainly not the main attraction.

(Y/n) took a sip of orange juice as he prepared to change the atmosphere to something more intimate. Finally, he moved closer to Atsushi and slowly and calmly moved his hand towards his thigh, starting with gentle touches to get his attention. His gaze at first on his own hand before raising it to meet his curious stare and those bicolor irises he loved so much. "Happy birthday, my love," he said. Atsushi smiled at him, and that was his signal to continue. "I'm really happy to have met you and every little decision we've made to become what we are now." He then raised his arm, passing it over the other's shoulders. The shorter one rested his head on his partner's shoulder, staying silent to hear everything his lover wanted to express. "I'm so in love with you, you know, and I want you to never doubt it." He began to stroke his white hair in a loving gesture, then placed a kiss on his crown. "Thank you for being born, and I'm proud of you for everything you've overcome."

He hugged him, and Atsushi quickly responded, throwing his arms around his beloved's waist. He felt safe in his arms, loved and at peace. Occasionally, he didn't believe he had the right to such happiness, yet (y/n) reminded him every day that he deserved more than the whole world.

"I love you too. Thank you for everything," he snuggled into his lap, his hands starting to caress his boyfriend's back.

"Atsushi," he called, taking his hands off the platinum strands, causing the shorter one to step back a bit, so they could face each other. "Actually, there's a reason why I chose this place." He helped his boyfriend stand up and sat him in the middle of his legs, passing his right arm around his waist and pointing to the night sky with the other.

"The Moon," he said. Atsushi's eyes focused there, an enormous full moon visible, and heaps of stars around it. "Today is special, the moon is more beautiful on this day, as it announces the most beautiful point of spring flowering." He explained, leaning his cheek on his partner's shoulder. "And this event coincides with your birthday, my little moonlight tiger."

At this point, Atsushi was shocked, his cheeks painted with an adorable crimson by how careful his boyfriend was in planning all of this. He smiled and leaned his body against the other, admiring the moon's shine.

"Look," (y/n) exclaimed softly, pointing with his free hand to the sky. A small flash could be seen a little to the right, leaving behind a bright trail that lingered for a few seconds before fading into the deep blue.

"¡Ah! That was...?!" he exclaimed, suddenly leaning forward, followed by his eyes scanning the entire night sky to see it again and more clearly. Excited, he did not take his eyes off it for a long time, able to see another and another. "(y/n), are those...?"

"A meteor shower," he smiled. "I really wanted to show you this; they're beautiful."

"Somewhere, I always thought they were just inventions for novels, but seeing them now, they really have a magical touch," he murmured, finally turning his gaze to his lover, only to meet a gaze full of love as he smiled at him.

(y/n) brought him closer to him, and with one of his hands, he brushed a strand of white hair before placing it behind his ear. "And they're here just for you, my dear one"— He slipped his hand in his cheek, before he finally close up the distance between them, finding his lips in a soft kiss that will demonstrate the much they love each other.
