Work Text:
Eijiro Kirishima was not someone who got jealous easily. He was very secure in his relationship with Katsuki Bakugou, and had nothing in the world to worry about. Everything was absolutely perfect, and nothing could change that.
Except maybe Katsuki’s ex-boyfriend.
Izuku Midoriya was quite possibly the nicest and most caring person Eijiro had ever met. It wasn’t like Eijiro wanted to dislike the guy, but it comes with the territory of being the next person in a relationship when you know both people. With both Katsuki and Midoriya in the same class as him, there was no escaping the constant interactions between all three of them.
Honestly, Eijiro hadn’t even known Midoriya was Katsuki’s ex until halfway through their first year, when he and Katsuki had already been together for a while. The thing with Midoriya was, however, that he had always been in Katsuki’s life. And while that wasn’t really a problem, it complicated things greatly. Anywhere Katsuki was, Midoriya wasn’t far behind.
Now, don’t get Eijiro wrong. He liked the little dude a lot. He believed in him becoming an amazing hero, he was a good friend to have, and he was an all around great guy. There was literally nothing to hate about him. He didn’t even know why he and Katsuki had broken up, because they seemed to just fall into each other naturally– and constantly.
“Kacchan!”
And then there were the nicknames. It was especially concerning if you didn’t remember the ‘childhood friends’ aspect of their relationship.
“Hey Zuku.”
Eijiro couldn’t stand the way Katsuki’s voice would waver every time his name would cross his lips, even if Midoriya wasn’t around. It was almost like anything Midoriya did still made Katsuki hesitate around Eijiro. It was concerning, to say the least. It was like the thought of Midoriya being around was still comforting for Katsuki, like they had never broken up– and Eijiro sometimes wondered if they actually had, or if it was just an agreement to lay low for a while to focus on school once getting into U.A.
“Hey Kirishima, nice to see you today.”
Midoriya was also extremely formal with him. It was like he was scared to be around him, or maybe he didn’t want to seem too comfortable around the two of them together. It was almost like a child talking to an adult– Extremely respectful and kind, so that parents wouldn’t be disappointed in the way their child behaves. It made it hard to think Izuku wanted any harm for their relationship, and honestly, with how good the guy’s soul is, he probably didn’t.
Beyond that, it was the friendship bracelets they both still wore. Ratty orange and green woven bracelets that they had tied onto their wrists with the point to not take them off until they fell off. It was like they had based their hero costumes around the bracelets. The constant barrage of red and green and orange on their costumes was a concerning sight, to say the least, but Eijiro knew they were just colors, right? It didn’t matter that they matched. Or that Dynamight and Deku were unbeatable on the field together. That they seemed to just know what the other was thinking with just a look.
There was also work studies. Katsuki was supposed to go with Eijiro to his work study, but at the last minute changed who he wanted to work under. And a week later, Eijiro found out that he had decided to intern under Endeavor again, along with Midoriya and Todoroki again. And that the two of them had shared a room while at the agency.
Eijiro wasn’t a jealous person. That’s why when Katsuki would forget to text him on Saturday dinners at his house with the Midoriya’s, he wouldn’t bother Katsuki more than once. He wouldn’t even comment on the snapchat stories of the two in Katsuki’s room watching movies while the adults downstairs were distracted by conversation and drinks. It wasn’t like he had anything to worry about–Katsuki had assured him that things were over between the two of them.
Maybe sometimes Eijiro was a little suspicious. The top drawer of Katsuki’s dresser had a lock on it with a key he wore around his neck. One time, while waiting for Katsuki to get out of the shower, Eijiro had picked the key up and walked over to the drawer, holding the key to the lock shakily. He slowly, and quietly, inserted the key, twisting and pulling the lock off. When he opened the drawer he found all sorts of things, mostly money and a few pieces of expensive jewelry. But something at the bottom of the drawer caught his attention.
I love you Katsuki, forever and always.
And unfortunately, that was not Eijiro’s handwriting. It wasn’t like he expected Katsuki to get rid of everything Midoriya had ever given him. It was just… shocking to say the least. Why was Katsuki still hanging onto that, and why had he bothered to bring it with him to U.A.? He quickly locked the drawer back up and put the key back exactly how Katsuki had it, climbing into his bed and pulling the covers up over him.
There was also the first time he met Katsuki’s parents. Pictures of Izuku and Katsuki in various stages of their lives littered the walls, and Eijiro couldn’t help but stare at them. It didn’t help that Mitsuki had been playing with the necklace she wore, and Eijiro commented on it.
“That’s a pretty necklace. Does it mean a lot to you?”
“Oh, yeah. It’s got a picture of my boys in it. Izuku gave it to me.”
“Your… boys?”
“Yeah, my husband, Katsuki and Izuku. My boys.”
“Oh.” Eijiro had managed to say. Of course Midoriya had given her a necklace she wore every day. It was like everything was a competition to be a better boyfriend than Midoriya.
Then there was the first time they had decided to… mess around. It seemed like everything was going well until Katsuki shoved him off somewhat aggressively with a pained look on his face. “Watch your teeth, Ei. I forgot about having to train you into knowing what I like, Zuku just kinda knew naturally.”
And wasn’t that a mood killer. “Thanks for that mental image Kats.”
“Sorry. Didn’t mean to.”
It was like everything Katsuki is, is because of Midoriya. Every single thing that he did, like his ambition to be a hero for quirkless kids, was because of Midoriya. Every routine, like waking up early on school days to go work out, was because of Midoriya. Eijiro was pretty sick of it all, if he was being honest.
Speaking of the early morning workouts, they were always, always, with Midoriya. Time all alone early in the morning when no one else was awake. But Katsuki had assured Eijiro that everything between the two of them was over, and unfortunately, Katsuki had never given him a reason not to trust him. So there was nothing Eijiro could do but sit there and take it like a man, being mature enough to realize that exes could still be friends.
Eijiro had once asked about how the two of them had decided to break up.
“Oh, you know. We just… decided to focus on other things for a while. And then I met you, so I didn’t worry about it. Zuku’s got something going on with Shinsou, I think. I can see it in the way they look at each other. “
“That doesn’t sound like a break up Kats.”
“It was, kinda. We just agreed we wanted to be friends, so now we are.”
There were times when Aizawa would forget to do dorm checks during second year. On those nights, Eijiro would sneak into Katsuki’s room and lay in bed with him. They talked about anything and everything they could while cuddled as close as possible. It was times like this when Eijiro didn’t question their relationship. And then when Eijiro would stay on the weekends, they would sleep in until early afternoon, and secretly, he liked that Midoriya was nowhere to be seen.
“Good morning Ei.” Katsuki mumbled, pulling himself out of bed and pulling a shirt on. “Get out of my bed so I can make it.”
“Ok, Ok.” Eijiro laughed, getting up and stretching, stepping away from the bed. He scanned the room, finding a cd collection he hadn’t noticed before. “Hey Kats, you listen to these guys? I didn’t know that! I saw them in concert once.”
Katsuki turned to look at the cd. “Yeah, Zuku was really into them in middle school so I got into them too. We went and saw them in concert as well, probably saw you there too.” Katsuki laughed, pulling the blankets up and folding the top down. “I really like them though. They're good. I've got a couple more of their CDs at home.
“They’re like a hardcore emo band. Midoriya was into that?”
“Oh hell yeah. It was like the only thing he’d listen to for two years. It was cute.” Katsuki smiled, shaking his head and walking to the bathroom.
“Oh. Well, I see that your type is secret emo guys.”
“You got that right.”
Eijiro cringed and set the cd back down, wiping his hands on his shirt and looking at it in disgust. Of course Midoriya was going to ruin yet another thing for him.
“Hey Ei, you should come to my family dinner this weekend. It’d be a good opportunity to get you out of the dorms for the night.”
“That’d be nice, I'm in.”
“Cool.”
Ok, maybe Eijiro was a bit of a jealous guy. Sitting at the Bakugou family dinner table with Midoriya’s mother and Katsuki’s parents while Midoriya and Katsuki chased each other around the kitchen trying to cook dinner wasn’t what he had expected when he was invited to a ‘family dinner’. In his mind, there was a lack of green.
“So, Kirishima sweetie, do you want to see pictures of Katsuki as a kid?”
“Oh, that might be fun–”
“MOOOM, no!” Katsuki whined from the kitchen, and Eijiro looked over to see Izuku step behind him, placing his hand on Katsuki’s lower back to grab something out of the cabinet above Katsuki’s head.
“I’d love to see those pictures.” Eijiro said, out of spite. Mitsuki jumped up with a smirk on her face and ran to get the photo albums. As she came back, she slammed the books down on the table in between her and Eijiro.
“Look at this one first. It’s his baby pictures.” Eijiro smiled and grabbed the book from Mitsuki, flipping it open. He was greeted with pictures of the cutest baby he had ever seen. “Oh my god Kats you were so cute!”
“Shut up.”
Eijiro continued flipping through the pictures, stopping at a picture very clearly taken in a hospital at a few months old. “Why was he in the hospital?”
“Turn the page dear.” Mitsuki said, a smile on her face. Eijiro turned the page to be greeted with a picture of baby Katsuki attempting to ‘hold’ Midoriya as a newborn. The next picture? Katsuki screaming as Midoriya was taken away from him to be held by someone else.
“Oh, so, they’ve always known each other?”
“Yep!”
“Best two months of my life.” Katsuki laughed, and Midoriya turned with a spatula in hand, pointing it at Katsuki.
“Watch it buddy.”
Eijiro flipped through the rest of the photos relatively quickly, and Mitsuki handed him a different one. “This one’s middle school. When he was a bit of an asshole.” She whispered, nudging him in the side. Eijiro opened and was greeted immediately by the sight of Midoriya all over Katsuki, clearly the first day of school, the two of them holding hands and smiling at the camera. He flipped through pictures until he landed on a bunch of photos from a school dance. The two of them were dressed up nicely, matching, and kissing for the camera. He quickly flipped through the rest of the book.
“He was a really cute kid. Thank you for showing me. Can I ask where the bathroom is?”
Before Mitsuki could answer, Midoriya was yelling out from the kitchen “Down the hall third door to the left.”
Mitsuki began to laugh. “I don’t know how he even remembers that– I live here and I can’t even find it half the time!”
Eijiro nodded his excuse, and made his way down the hall, staring at all of the pictures of Midoriya all over the house. He turned the water on and dipped his hands in, rubbing them on his face. Calm down Eijiro. It’s ok.
As he returned to the table, he found everyone sitting down and all of the food ready to eat. And of course, Katsuki and Izuku were sitting as close as possible. He fought an eye roll before sitting back down.
“Thank you for the food.” Everyone said in unison, and they began to pass plates around.
After dinner, Katsuki and Izuku stood up and collected the dishes, running them into the kitchen and then standing at the end of the table. “Are we excused?”
Mitsuki nodded. “Come on Kirishima, let’s go pick a movie to watch!” Midoriya said excitedly. Eijiro slowly stood, excusing himself from the table and following behind his boyfriend and Midoriya. As they made it up the stairs, Midoriya rushed over to a door and threw it open, running in and immediately laying down on the bed, getting comfortable like it was his own.
“Move it Zuku,” Katsuki laughed, “We all have to fit in there this time.” And wasn’t that just concerning. Eijiro looked around, taking in the decor in Katsuki’s room. It looked a lot like his dorm room, but with the addition of a bunch of pictures of him and his old friends, including pictures of Midoriya. Just Midoriya.
Eijiro sighed, sitting on the edge of Katsuki’s bed. A bed they had probably screwed around in many times, and that was enough to make him want to hurl.
Midoriya scooted over to the wall, patting the bed beside him, allowing Katsuki to crawl in. Katsuki turned and pulled at Eijiro’s shirt, trying to get him into the bed as well. Eijiro complied, and as the two others fought over movies on Netflix, he sat there considering the whole situation.
“Ei.” Katsuki said, snapping his fingers.
“Huh?” Eijiro replied. Katsuki pointed to the tv, where the beginning of a movie had started. Katsuki pulled Eijiro down so that his head was on Katsuki’s shoulder.
Momentarily, everything was perfect.
Until Midoriya’s head dropped into Katsuki’s lap, and Katsuki’s hand immediately went to his hair, tangling his fingers in those green curls.
On Monday, at school, Midoriya floated over to Shinsou and plopped down in front of him at his desk, and Eijiro had never been so glad for someone else's existence. The two seemed to talk for ages, but Katsuki’s theory of something going on between them was debunked the moment Denki walked up to them and started flirting with Shinsou in front of Midoriya and it didn’t phase him.
Eijiro Kirishima was a jealous person. Because the second Katsuki walked into the classroom, he didn’t go for him. He went straight for Midoriya, and set something down on his desk. Something that looked an awful lot like a homemade box lunch.
“Thank you Kacchan! I love my little housewife.” Midoriya laughed, and Kirishima saw red.
“Shut up Zuku.” Katsuki blushed. He freaking blushed. Eijiro marched over to where Katsuki sat and pulled him back up, kissing him aggressively, glaring at Midoriya before closing his eyes.
“I think Kirishima is mad at me.” Midoriya had the audacity to say to Shinsou.
“You think?” Shinsou said, smacking the back of Midoriya’s head.
It wasn’t long before they were third years. And soon after, they were graduating. That night was an amazing night for the whole class. Everyone was finally free to start hero work as interns at agencies they wanted. Eijiro knew he was going to go work with Fatgum again, he absolutely loved the man and looked at him as a father figure in his life.
With graduation came graduation celebrations. Eijiro watched from a distance as all of the Bakugou’s and Midoriya’s swarmed each other, taking pictures of the boys together. Eijiro rolled his eyes, diverting his attention back to his moms before he got sick. What Eijiro didn’t see was the arm that wrapped around Midoriya’s waist, pulling him close to Katsuki. Or the smile that Midoriya wore as they recreated a middle school picture– Katsuki kissing Midoriya on the cheek.
As newly graduated adults, people were moving out and moving closer to their respective agencies. With Fatgum’s agency across the city district, Eijiro was moving a bit further away than he would have liked. Especially with the big three working under Endeavor still, he couldn’t keep constant tabs on Katsuki.
Eijiro knew that made him sound obsessive. But with how close those two would be working…
And it wasn’t long until Eijiro received the worst news he could have imagined. Katsuki, during a visit to the new apartment, lounged on the couch with his legs over Eijiro’s lap. “I was gonna tell ya earlier, but you were so busy I didn’t want to stress ya.”
“What?”
“Me, ‘Zuku and Todoroki are moving in with each other next week. It’ll be easier to get started in life if we’re all splittin’ the bills on things, ya know?”
“You two and Todoroki?” and while the addition of Todoroki made him feel better, it didn’t make him happy.
“Yeah, half-n-half didn’t want to live with his old man anymore, and with how close he and Zuku are, we figured it’d be a good option.”
“Right.” Eijiro pushed Katsuki’s legs off of him and stood up, walking into the kitchen.
“What’s your deal?”
“What’s my deal? What’s my– Katsuki, normal people don’t move in with their ex-boyfriend after graduation!”
“What’s the big deal? Izuku and I are just friends.” Katsuki said, standing up and turning towards Eijiro, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Katsuki, I know you honestly believe that. I know you do. But anyone with eyes can see you’re still in love with him.”
“I am not!” Katsuki yelled, a bit too defensively. Eijiro felt his heart break.
“Kats, He’s still in love with you. It’s obvious. The way he looks at you, touches you. The way he even says your name. And you’re in love with–”
“Shut up. Just shut up. You don’t get to tell me how I’m feeling, especially when I know he’s not into me anymore.”
“I don’t need to. You already know.” Eijiro snapped, turning away from Katsuki with a huff. He began to grab a cup to get some water, and his door slammed closed. “...Katsuki?”
He didn’t hear from Katsuki for a few days. As time progressed He watched on friends' social media accounts the progress of Katsuki’s new apartment, and how he and his roommates seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves. What really killed him was the group movie night they invited most of the class to.
From: Midoriya
Hey Kirishima!
Kacchan said you weren’t feeling good
Sorry you had to miss the movie!
What? Katsuki was making excuses for why he wasn’t around, and the only person who cared was the one person he wished didn’t.
To: Midoriya
Yeah, sorry I couldn’t make it
After a few more days, Eijiro cracked. He asked around for Katsuki’s new address, finally getting it from Kaminari. He showed up to the door, knocking slowly. Todoroki answered, lacking ninety percent of his clothes, and cocked an eyebrow at him. “Come in.” He stepped out of the way, allowing Eijiro into the apartment. As Todoroki turned away to lead him into the main room, he realized he had scratches down his back.
“Nice place, Todoroki. Do you like it here?” He asked, awkwardly.
“You don’t have to pretend with me. Izuku might believe whatever bullshit Katsuki spouts, but I know you two were fighting.”
“Ok, thanks I guess? I just need to talk to Katsuki.”
“Shou, who was at the do– Oh hey Kirishima!” Izuku said excitedly, running over and slinging an arm over Todoroki’s shoulder. Eijiro scanned Midoriya before it fully hit him: The lack of shirt, the hickies on his neck, and the scratches he had seen down Todoroki’s back, plus his lack of clothes.
‘Especially when I know he’s not into me anymore.’
Midoriya and Todoroki were hooking up when they thought Katsuki wasn’t paying attention. And it was clearly bugging Katsuki.
“I just need to apologize to him.”
“Who, Kacchan? I’ll take you to him! He’s still in bed.” Midoriya said, grabbing a shirt off the back of the couch and pulling it on. It didn’t take Eijiro long to recognize the shirt as Katsuki’s favorite skull shirt, but he held his tongue. As long as Midoriya was with Todoroki, he could calm down a little. Midoriya flung a door open and practically skipped into the room, jumping onto the bed. “Wake up sleeping beauty, your boyfriend is here!”
“Fuck off Izuku, go fuck your boyfriend or something and leave me the hell alone.”
“Kacchan, one– he’s not my boyfriend, and two–your boyfriend is here. Get up.”
Katsuki grumbled, but rolled over to face the doorway, squinting at Eijiro as he stood in the bright doorway. “What do you want, Ei?”
“To apologize.”
“I’ll leave. Bye Kirishima!”
Eijiro waved goodbye as Midoriya crawled off of the bed, running back out into the living room. He could faintly hear Todoroki asking if they were going to pick up where they left off, and Midoriya giggled. There were two sets of hurried footsteps in the opposite direction, and Eijiro let out a sigh of relief when a door slammed closed.
“Fucking hate that Icy-hot bastard.”
“Why?”
“Because he has the absolute audacity. He just has the audacity to exist.”
“Not because he’s sleeping with Midoriya?”
“I don’t care what they do. They just don’t need to do it twenty-four-seven.”
“Oh. Well uh… I came here to apologize. I didn’t mean to pick a fight with you last week and I’m sorry.”
“I get it. I know it comes across as me still being into him. But we’re just really close, is all. I promise.”
“Ok, I believe you.”
“Ok, now come over here.” Katsuki said, lifting his blankets up and patting the bed next to him.
Eijiro felt relaxed for the first time in years as he slipped into bed next to his boyfriend. For the next year, it was about the same. Eijiro was convinced that at some point, Todoroki and Midoriya would make their relationship official. However, they never did, and the whole time, Midoriya stayed freakishly close to Katsuki.
One day, Eijiro showed up at the apartment to be greeted with screaming. He slowly opened the door a crack to hear what was going on. Midoriya and Todoroki were fighting, and by the looks of things, Midoriya was winning.
“Shouto, I already told you no!” He yelled from across the room, and Todoroki just stood in the doorway to the kitchen with his arms crossed.
“Why, Izuku? Because you’re scared of commitment, or are you still in love with him?”
“Shouto. We’ve talked about this. You know I am. And that’s why I can’t be happy with anyone else. I’m just sorry.”
“I fell in love with you and you just let it happen, knowing you didn’t want to be with me. How fucked up in the head do you have to be to let someone suffer like that.”
“You’re starting to sound like your father.” Midoriya said, with no emotion behind his voice. Todoroki quite literally exploded, bursting into flames at the statement.
“Do not ever compare me to that bastard. I don’t care what you say about me, but that is too far. You should know out of everybody that I was trying my absolute hardest to become my own person and move on from all of his abuse. You don’t get to just stand there and compare me to him because you’re upset that Katsuki doesn’t love you anymore.”
Eijiro stilled, and left his hand on the door knob as he listened. He knew it. He knew that Midoriya was still in love with Katsuki.
“I don’t care if he doesn’t love me anymore. I would never interfere with his relationship. I just have to be close to him, Shouto. I know at some point, he’s going to move out and start his own life with Kirishima, and then I’ll never be able to get him back. I just need the time to be around him while I still can, ok? Maybe someday, you and I might work out. But right now? I’m just not ready.”
“Kirishima, get in here and stop spying on us like a kid.” Todoroki said, his back still turned towards the door.
“S-sorry. I didn’t mean to I just thought I would wait until it calmed down to–”
“It won’t calm down, Ei. they’ve been going at it for hours.” Katsuki said from somewhere in the room, and Eijiro realized he was lying on the couch next to where Midoriya was standing. That meant he knew every little detail of this fight including that–
Katsuki reached out and grabbed Midoriya’s hand, squeezing it a few times. Midoriya looked down, a small smile on his face as he stared sadly at Katsuki.
“I’m so sorry Kacchan. I don’t want to ruin your relationship, I promise.”
“I know you don’t, Zuku. I just don’t understand why you won’t attempt to let Shouto make you happy.”
“Because you’re the one I want.” he said, and Todoroki huffed and walked into the kitchen.
“Eijiro, I think we need to talk.” Katsuki said, sitting up and letting go of Midoriya. He stood from the couch, motioning to his room. Eijiro’s heart sank. Where was this going? They walked to Katsuki’s room, And Katsuki stood there in silence for a moment before speaking. “I love you. I really do.”
“Where’s the but, Katsuki.”
“But Izuku needs me. And I can’t just leave him. We’ve always been together, from the very beginning. He and I are like a package deal… you get me, you also get him. I don’t know why he won’t give Shouto a chance to make him happy but I understand that he isn’t ready.”
“Yeah, so what does that have to do with– you are still in love with him, aren’t you?” Eijiro felt his voice drop to a whisper, his hands shaking as he looked down.
“I am.”
“Oh. ok.”
“But I’m in love with you too.” Katsuki said, standing up and walking over to Eijiro, holding his arms out for a hug. Eijiro just stepped backwards, away from Katsuki, not bothering to look up.
“I think… I think we should call it quits, Katsuki. I can’t– I can’t be with someone that isn’t fully in love with me. I deserve better, you know?”
“I know you do.” Katsuki dropped his arms. His voice was quiet and remorseful, and Eijiro hated to hear it. “You deserve so much better than everything I’ve put you through, Ei. I’m so sorry.”
Eijiro just nodded, letting a few tears fall. This was stupid, he had known it all along and yet here it was, still just as painful as he thought it would be. “I think I'm gonna go, Katsuki. I’ll talk to you… maybe sometime. I don’t know if I'm going to want to for a while.”
“I understand. I’m so, so fucking sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“You never did Katsuki! It wasn’t your fault you never stopped loving him, and I’m not going to be the middleman in this situation. I honestly get what Todoroki is feeling right now, and it freaking sucks. It’s like getting your heart ripped out and then tossed around like a ball.”
“Maybe you and Shouto will bond over this, then. He’ll need someone just as badly as you will who understands what he’s going through.”
“Katsuki, are you really trying to joke with me right now?”
“Sorry. I’m sorry.” He said, hanging his head. Eijiro felt a surge of anger rush through him.
“I’m out of here. Don’t call me anymore, Katsuki. I won’t answer.” Eijiro turned and stomped out of the room, walking into the living room where Midoriya sat quietly with Todoroki.
“I’m just sorry, Shou. I know I shouldn’t have done it. I just couldn’t hide my feelings any longer.”
“I understand, Izuku. That’s not why I'm mad. I’m mad because you knew, but you let me fall anyway.” He said, staring down at his hands. Eijiro walked over to the two of them and put his hand on Shouto’s shoulder.
“If you need anything, you can call me. I think we both need someone to talk to right now.”
“Kirishima, I’m so sorry. I told him not to, I told him to stay with you and be happy because all I want is for him to be happy. But he didn’t want to listen to me. I wanted you two to stay together, I liked your relationship, I really did. You made him so happy.” Midoriya rambled on, and Eijiro took a deep breath.
“I understand that, Midoriya, but I’m a little hurt right now. Maybe sometime in the future, I’ll be ready to talk to you, but not yet, not right now.” Eijiro turned and walked out the door, lettinging it slam closed behind him.
As the months went on, things started to change. Todoroki moved out of the apartment, claiming he just couldn’t handle it anymore. Eijiro watched him go to his old friends for support, including Hanta Sero, who eventually, after a few months of pulling Todoroki out of the darkness, convinced him to go on a date. And then, they were inseparable.
Eijiro didn’t feel angry anymore. Instead, he just felt nauseous any time he looked at Katsuki and Midoriya together, even though they hadn’t confirmed their relationship status at all. Once a month, all of class A would meet up at a bar and hang out for the night, and Eijiro watched all of his friends get into relationships. His personal favorite was Kaminari and Shinsou, but he wouldn’t tell that to the other couples that had formed from the class dynamics.
But Eventually, Katsuki and Midoriya showed up to one of those hang out nights holding hands. Eijiro had excused himself from the table as soon as they announced that they were finally together. He walked outside, rubbing his face with his hands and willing the tears to stop before walking back to where he had parked his car and going home.
Eventually, they got engaged. Even though it had been two years, Eijiro still felt the sting of betrayal shoot into his heart as they had announced it. The media was quick to pick up on the story, and soon, the news of the engagement was everywhere, in every place Eijiro looked.
So maybe Eijiro Kirishima was a bit of a jealous guy. Watching the news report of the wonder duo’s marriage was enough to send him spiraling again. But this time? He had no one who could relate to his pain. Todoroki was happily in a relationship now, and none of his other friends had experienced anything close to this situation.
The only thing Eijiro could do was fake it. So fake it he did, saving people and living his life the way he wanted to, until one day, he realized that the class hangouts didn’t hurt anymore. Seeing Katsuki and Izuku– because he had insisted people stop calling him Midoriya now that he was married and had changed his last name– was no longer heartbreaking for him. He was genuinely happy that they had finally sorted their shit out and ended up together, because sometimes, people are just destined to be together, regardless of how much you wish you were in their position.
