It’s a cold morning in Seattle, the snow had fallen thick and heavy during the night prompting the occupants of the famously named Frat House, to look for comfort and warmth within the closest body available. Izzie and Alex found themselves drawn together, while George was smothered by the Latina goddess, the 4th year ortho resident, Callie Torres, that has been staying with them for the last few days. Meredith unconsciously pretended to do the same, and in her sleep rolled over the other side of the bed, looking for her girlfriend, but only found an empty and cold space.
The blonde huffed with frustration as the cold woke her up completely, and she finally opened her eyes, scanning her room for any signs of her girlfriend, but the only indications that Addison had actually spent the night next to her were her glasses and pager on the nightstand, right next to her cellphone. The blonde resident sat up gingerly while rubbing her eyes, a shiver ran through her body when a cold breeze rattle the house, making the floorboard and walls creak like it was an old house.
“Just once I’d love to wake up with you next to me,” Meredith muttered as she jumped out of bed and grabbed a pair of blue sweatpants and a white knitted sweater that was draped against the back of the chair near the window, it is unclear to whom the clothes belong to, Meredith and Addison have been living together for a year now, and they share almost everything. “Why do you have to be such an early bird, Montgomery?” She grumbled a bit more as she made her way downstairs to the kitchen, where she knows her beautiful and infuriating girlfriend is.
She wasn’t wrong at all.
Addison was in the fucking kitchen, making fucking delicious-smelling breakfast, wearing nothing but an oversize bottle-green knitted sweater, the rich color of the sweater contrasted wonderfully with her creamy long legs. Meredith wanted to ravish her, to adore her, to bury her face between her legs and speak a language of their own but ended up laughing silently when she noticed that Addison had stolen her pink unicorn slippers.
“Why, oh, why, my love, you’re awake at such an early hour on this rest day?” The blonde sighed dramatically as she approached her from behind and hugged her waist tight against her.
“Put on some shoes, you’ll get sick,” Addison chastised absently, as if she had not heard what Meredith had said but was acknowledging her presence.
“I wouldn’t be barefoot if you hadn’t stolen my slippers,” Meredith murmured, placing a soft kiss against her neck, just where the fabric of the sweater met her skin. Addison exhaled forcefully when the caress of her breath sent a shiver down her spine, she closed her eyes and her movements over the kitchen counter halted for a moment, enjoying, basking in the heat that radiated from her girlfriend’s body.
“You could've worn mine,” She quipped softly as her hands continued cutting some fruit into small pieces.
“You know what, this all could be avoided if you just stop leaving the bed so early,” She protested, nipping the redhead’s earlobe softly.
“I was hungry,” She argued, grabbing a piece of strawberry and lifting it to Meredith’s mouth over her shoulder.
“And I am cold,” The blonde continued to protest, she opened her mouth and allowed Addison to slip the strawberry in between her lips, closing them around her fingers for a moment while her tongue teased the tip. “And that can be easily fixed,” She murmured tugging at Addison’s waist to turned her around, the redhead left the knife clatter against the board and crossed her arms around the blonde’s shoulders.
“Yeah, how?” Addison teased as she leaned against her and drove her mouth towards the blonde’s, but didn’t kiss her right away.
“Like this,” Meredith grunted softly as she moved her hands from where they were resting on the small of Addison’s back, to her ass and then to the back of her thighs. The blonde hoisted her up, promptly, Addison curled her legs around her waist, locking her ankles together on top of Meredith’s barely covered ass. The blonde resident pushed themselves away from the counter and tried to leave the kitchen with the redhead doctor in her arms.
“Wait!” Addison stopped her. “Let me… get my fruit,” She stretched her arms back and grabbed the bowl with the fruit she’d been cutting just a moment ago. “Okay, I’m ready,” She smiled down sweetly at the blonde.
“I love you,” Meredith chuckled, amused as she started walking upstairs with the redhead in her arms.
“And I love you,” Addison whispered against her lips, letting herself be carried away.
The lake house was nestled in the heart of the dense, rainy forest, surrounded by tall trees and lush vegetation. The thick canopy overhead filtered the sunlight, casting a dappled shade on the ground. The air was filled with the sweet scent of damp earth and fresh rain.
The modest cabin stood on the shore of the serene lake, its wooden facade weathered and worn from years of exposure to the elements. A small dock extended out into the water, where a rowboat was tied up, gently bobbing with the waves. The sound of the raindrops pattering on the roof and the occasional rustling of leaves added to the peaceful ambiance.
On the porch, Addison stood with her hip leaning against the wooden rail, a steaming cup of coffee clasped in her hands. Her fiery red hair cascaded down her shoulders, contrasting beautifully against her gray knitted sweater and blue sweatpants. Her eyes were fixed on the tranquil lake, lost in thought.
Meredith approached her from behind, her footsteps muted by the soft earth. She wrapped her arms around Addison's waist, hugging her tightly from behind, her chin resting on her shoulder. The rain had dampened her hair, which now clung to her face in gentle curls. The two women stood there, enveloped in each other's warmth, enjoying the peaceful serenity of their surroundings.
The laughter that had begun as a soft giggle between the two women quickly escalated into full-blown hilarity. Their chasing had caused a commotion, sending birds scattering into the sky and causing small animals to dart away into the underbrush.
As they ran, Addison and Meredith poked and grabbed at each other, trying to steal kisses and smiles from each other's mouths. The joy and abandon of their play were infectious, and the forest echoed with their laughter.
"Got you!" Meredith squealed triumphantly as she jumped on Addison's back, wrapping her arms around her neck. The redhead managed to keep their balance as she grabbed Meredith's legs and locked them together in front of her.
"Got me," Addison murmured back, feeling the warmth of Meredith's body pressed against her back. Meredith's lips began to pepper her neck and shoulder with butterfly kisses, making the redhead squirm away and squeal as her lips tickled her skin.
"Ah, you're ticklish," Meredith noted with amusement, enjoying the way Addison wriggled in her arms. She knew full well how ticklish her lover was, but she always relished in that fact.
"Just like you," Addison countered, a mischievous glint in her eye. She dragged a finger over the soles of Meredith's feet, causing the blonde to squirm and try to pull away.
"Stop it!" Meredith giggled, wriggling in Addison's arms.
"If you wore shoes, this wouldn't be a problem," Addison argued with a smile, knowing full well how much Meredith loved being barefoot. It was just one more way that she could make her lover laugh and feel alive in the world around them.
“ A risk I must take,” Meredith tried to say solemnly, but ended up laughing.
Addison's feet and ankles were swollen enough for her to forego wearing shoes around the house. Not that she liked it, but she didn't have any other option as she was well into her third trimester of her pregnancy. She couldn't even fathom putting her feet into her designer shoes. As Addison stood in front of the fridge, a pint of chocolate ice cream resting on top of her covered swollen belly, Meredith watched her with full of love and adoration eyes.
"I have to admit that you may have something figured out when going around the house barefoot," Addison said, breaking the silence.
"It only took you 5 years of relationship and a pregnancy to finally give me the reason," Meredith snorted from the doorway of the kitchen.
"Well, I'm not giving you the reason, per se. I'm just saying that you may be onto something," Addison replied, taking a spoonful of ice cream and savoring it.
Meredith shook her head with amusement, knowing full well that her girlfriend was stubborn and fiercely independent. But that was one of the things that she loved about her.
"You know, I never thought I'd see the day when Addison Forbes Montgomery would wear ugly sneakers," Meredith teased, walking over to her girlfriend.
Addison rolled her eyes, but couldn't help but smile at the gentle ribbing. "They're not ugly, they're practical," she retorted.
Meredith chuckled, wrapping her arms around Addison's waist and resting her chin on her shoulder. "You know I love you no matter what, right?"
Addison leaned back into Meredith's embrace, feeling the warmth of her body against her own. "I know," she replied softly. "And I love you too."
Meredith squeezed her tighter, reveling in the feeling of being so close to the love of her life. She couldn't imagine spending her life with anyone else.
Addison was terribly exhausted as she woke up some time later. The hospital bed was not uncomfortable, but she was bone-tired, everything in her body ached. But despite the pain and the exhaustion, she had never been happier; she had just given birth to a healthy baby boy that she and Meredith had agreed to name Henry Alexandre Montgomery-Grey.
As she opened her eyes in the dimly illuminated room, she saw the silhouette of her girlfriend bouncing around the room with the baby in her arms. Meredith was singing softly, trying not to wake the baby, but Addison could see the joy radiating from her girlfriend's face.
And Addison, who couldn't believe that she could love her more, swallowed her words because the love she felt when she saw Meredith looking at Henry like he was the most precious creature on earth was enough for Addison to tear up.
Meredith noticed her girlfriend awake and immediately rushed over to her side, carefully placing the baby in her arms.
"Addie, oh my god, you're awake!" Meredith exclaimed, her face beaming with joy.
Addison smiled weakly, feeling a surge of love for both her girlfriend and her newborn son. "Hey, Mer," she whispered, her voice hoarse from exhaustion.
Meredith took a step back, noticing something that she had missed before. "Why are you snorting?" she asked, a hint of confusion in her voice.
Addison looked down at her girlfriend's feet and noticed that she was barefoot. She couldn't help but chuckle at the sight.
"You're barefoot in the hospital, Mer," she pointed out, shaking her head in amusement.
Meredith laughed, looking down at her feet. "I guess I forgot to put my shoes on," she said sheepishly.
Addison shook her head, feeling a sense of contentment wash over her. She had everything she ever wanted in life: a loving partner, a healthy baby, and a bright future ahead of them.
Addison said, a soft smile spreading across her face. "Our little family." She reached out to touch Henry's tiny hand, and he curled his fingers around her own. "He's perfect," she whispered, tears welling up in her eyes. "He really is."
Meredith leaned in and kissed her forehead. "I'm so proud of you, Addie," she said, her voice thick with emotion. "You were amazing."
Addison gave her a grateful look. "Thank you for everything, Meredith," she said. "I couldn't have done it without you."
Meredith shook her head. "You don't have to thank me," she said. "I love you, and I'll always be here for you."
They sat there in silence for a while, just watching their newborn son sleep, until Addison broke the quiet. "Hey, can you hand me my phone?" she asked, nodding toward the bedside table. "I want to take a picture of our little family."
Meredith grinned and reached for the phone. "Of course," she said. "Say cheese, Henry."
As they posed for the photo, Addison felt a surge of gratitude and love for the woman by her side. She couldn't wait to start this new chapter of their lives together, with their beautiful son and their unbreakable bond.
Addison rubbed her bleary eyes and stifled a yawn as she entered the kitchen. The light from the early morning sun streaming in through the windows illuminated the space with a soft glow. The cool air from outside seeped in through the cracks around the windows and made Addison shiver as she walked to the fridge. She opened it up and took out some fruits, a sandwich, and a juice box, starting to pack Henry's lunch bag.
She heard the distinct sound of footsteps running down the hallway leading to the kitchen, the sharp slaps resounded letting her know that whoever that was, was barefoot against the hardwood floors of the house. It had to be Henry, because Meredith was supposed to be at the hospital trying to get as many surgeries as possible before she inevitably had to take a leave, as they soon would be welcoming their second son.
This time it was Meredith’s turn to carry their baby, which proved to be more difficult that they had expected because Meredith’s uterus had turned out to be just a little hostile, they dealt with two miscarriages before they decided to try one more time, Meredith was adamant of going through that again, but Addison proved herself convincing, she wanted her now wife to experience the joys of being pregnant, and gladly the third time was the charm, Meredith was now finishing her second trimester; they found out that they were having another boy just a few days ago.
“Henry, goddammit! Shoes on!” She yelled annoyed, she knows she is wasting time and breath with their eldest because the boy turned out to be as stubborn as his mama and refuses to wear shoes in the house.
The footsteps stopped at the doorway of the kitchen and the door swung open, letting her know that she had been yelling at her wife instead of her son. Meredith wobbled inside with a tired yet bright smile aimed at her. “Language, Mommy!” Meredith scolded her fondly.
Addison couldn't help but return the smile, feeling a rush of warmth spread through her chest at the sight of Meredith. "You should be resting, not running around the house," she said, concern lacing her words as she approached her wife with a cup of steaming decaf coffee for her. There were two things that Meredith refused to give up in life and in her pregnancy, and those were coffee and running barefoot around the house.
"I know, I know," Meredith replied, taking a sip of her coffee. "But I wanted to see my two favorite people before I go back to work. I have to be back in two hours, I have a Whipple."
Addison chuckled softly, shaking her head. "You know, Henry's turning into a mini-you," she said, gesturing towards the hallway where their son's sneakers lay abandoned.
"I know, it's terrifying," Meredith joked, making Addison laugh. "But you have to admit, he's got good taste in footwear."
Addison rolled her eyes playfully. "Well, shoes are mandatory at school," she said, turning back to finish packing Henry's lunch. "Speaking of which, I better finish this up, or he'll be late."
“Do you need help?” Meredith asked, coming near her, and leaning against her side softly, looking for the warmth she always provides.
“No, it’s fine baby, go rest a bit,” Addison leaned against her and pressed a soft yet firm kiss to her temple.
Meredith nodded, taking another sip of her coffee. "I'll be in the living room if you need me," she said, heading towards the couch.
Addison smiled at her, feeling grateful for the woman in her life. "Love you," she called out after her.
"Love you more," Meredith replied, settling into the cushions.
“Oh! And by the way, if you manage to birth another mini-you on the barefoot thing, I’ll divorce you,” She yelled at her wife jokingly, and she got laughter as a response.
