Slipping through my fingers

Summary:

Thomas and Richard spend a day at the sea. And Richard takes a moment to think about the past. But even more he likes to think about the future with this wonderful man at his side.

Notes:

I had this idea really spontaneously yesterday morning and it turned into a poem in almost no time. And since I wanted to do some writing this week but didn't know how to start a fic, I've decided to upload it anyway.

This poem describes a letter from Richard to Thomas. I usually write the poems from the sight of Thomas, so it has been interesting to look at the feelings and emotions of Richard and how he would put these words into prose.

I have realised that some of these sentences actually resemble a lot of my current feelings and emotions. Especially the last part. So it is kind of a personal poem but in the end, it is supposed to be about Richard and Thomas and I hope I still kind of catched their vibe and their chemistry.

Work Text:

My dearest Thomas,

The sea is calm tonight.
Your head heavy on my chest.
The moon is shining so bright.
You really deserved that rest.

I like your soft smile.
Even though I would like to see it more often.
You told me it has been a while.
Since someone has made your heart soften.

You told me the last years had been a painful chore.
Full of pain and loneliness.
Imagining these moments make my heart sore.
I hated seeing you in so much distress.

I remember your frightened look when you showed me the scars.
Scared to do something wrong, scared of being let down.
We both have fought many wars.
That left us standing in a blood-stained gown.

Deep inside, I also have many fears.
Buried deep in my soul.
We held each other while we shed long overdue tears.
With you, I feel like I’m finally whole.

There are so many things I don’t understand.
Things I want to change and turn right.
But when you lightly touched my hand.
It made the candle in my soul flicker more bright.

I can’t wait for you to wake up, to hear the valleys in your voice.
Letting my fingertips glide over your cheek.
Coming here with you has been the right choice.
Your loving gaze makes my knees go weak.

I want to take you on a walk.
Along the seaside, under the gleaming moon.
Listening to you while you talk.
Have I ever told you that your voice lights up every room?

Sometimes I think that most people don't understand.
The gnawing doubts sitting behind us on the shelf.
But when I embrace you and take your hand.
I feel like I'm finally being myself.

There are so many places I want to take you to.
Just seeing the world, finding our pace.
I want to see that beautiful smile on your face.
I would walk around the globe just to be with you.

But for now, I don’t mind lying with you by my side.
As long as you are with me, I feel safe and warm.
I never told you, but you swept me off my feet with your charm.
You are the first person with whom I feel like I don’t have to hide.

You told me you’re not everything you want to be.
That you are still figuring things out.
I could say the same about me.
In the end, this is what life is all about.
