Chapter 1: INFORMATION
Chapter Text
You don't have to read this chapter, it's made for those who want some help to understand the world, if they are confused.
Kingdoms
This is a list of all the kingdoms and basic information about them.
City Kingdom
The City Kingdom is one of the most populated kingdoms, despite its rather small size. It has large buildings and skyscrapers, similar to your modern capital city in countries like the USA, England, Japan and more. This kingdom is known for holding many events like parades and creature races, which many come to experience. The kingdom doesn't partake in any of the wars and is semi-allies with most other kingdoms, often trading wares and such with them. The citizens of this kingdom tend to have all different kinds of skin tones, as people from different kingdoms move here at times.
As the City Kingdom is more about technology and progress, its connection with creatures is frail and this kingdom has the highest rate of neglect and abuse of creatures. This kingdom does not have a capital itself, but it has a famous area, near the middle of it, which is ironically called Mid.
This kingdom has a queen and no princes or princesses. The Queen's name is Queen Beatrice and she owns a Boreal Warden.
Forest Kingdom
The Forest Kingdom is one of the kingdoms with the strongest bond and connection to creatures. In this kingdom they have small villages, and a huge castle that nearly juts out of the redwood trees. Luckily, the thick leaves cover the castle, making it practically invisible to the naked eye and protecting it from direct attacks. Due to the thick leaves from the large trees, most citizens of this kingdom have light skin, caucasian.
The kingdom is at war with the Volcano Kingdom and have already lost their king to the opposing kingdom.
The Forest Kingdom has a prince. The Prince's name is Faunus and he gets a Yggdragstix as his assigned creature.
Volcano Kingdom
The Volcano Kingdom is the kingdom with the highest military power. This kingdom has villages set around and even inside the volcano the kingdom is based around. The volcano currently lies dormant, having not erupted for a long, long time. This kingdom is currently at war with the Forest Kingdom, wanting territory and power. It is allied with the Desert Kingdom. The citizens of this kingdom tend to look asian or have dark skin.
The Volcano Kingdom has only a king and prince. The King's name is King Vulkan and he has a Gnolrok. The Prince's name is Arson and he has an Arsonos.
Water Kingdom
The Water Kingdom is one of the most peaceful kingdoms. While the majority of the kingdom consists underwater, they own luxurious beaches, which make great vacation spots. This kingdom can live underwater due to eternally lasting bubbles which go around the civilians' heads. Due to spending so much time in water, humans of the Water Kingdom have begun forming semi-webbed hands and can hold their breath for extreme amounts of time.
In this kingdom, humans have a peculiar way of getting around the place. Here, most have some form of pet and they use that as transport. They will for example hold onto a tail, fin or back as the creature swims to their destination. This grows a strong bond between the creature and owner. The citizens of this kingdom have a peculiar skin colour due to their long time spent in water. The back of them have a darker tone than the front, similar to whales in real life. This is for camouflage, as it's harder to see something dark in water when looking down into it, and harder to see something light when looking up from it.
The Water Kingdom has a king, queen and princess. The King's name is Crabbe and his creature is a Syroudon. The Queen's name is Padina and her creature is a Crata Peretina. The Princess' name is Lotus and her creature is a Polymonstrum.
Mountain Kingdom
The Mountain Kingdom lives high up in the mountains, like how the name says. This Kingdom doesn't have many tourists as it's quite the treacherous journey to get there. The creatures in this kingdom are mostly those that can fly, and therefore flying is one of the main ways of transport around the kingdom.
Despite its rather isolated location, this kingdom is wealthy and many who are born in the kingdom live a life of peace and happiness. Civilians of the kingdom are stereotypically prideful, believing that they live in the best kingdom in Sonaria. The citizens in this kingdom tend to have pale skin or look like incas.
Due to the Mountain Kingdom's air power, not many kingdoms dare to start a war with it. The kingdom has a truce and holds as an ally with the Tundra Kingdom, giving it resources when it needs it. This also means the Tundra Kingdom is under the Mountain Kingdom's protection, of which the kingdom will battle any kingdoms trying to invade the other.
The Mountain Kingdom has both a Queen, Prince and Princess. The Queen's name is Halima and she has a Sar'hingaro. The Prince's name is Syrad and he has a Venatrox. The Princess' name is Féa and she has an Aolenus.
Tundra Kingdom
The Tundra Kingdom is the kingdom with the smallest population, beside its rather huge size of area. This is because the piercing cold of the biome is often seen as inhabitable, and with the land's few resources, surviving is hard and harsh. Due to the rather small population of the Tundra Kingdom, they are poor, have low military power and in general don't have a good defense. However, since the habitat has such savage consequences, not many, if any at all, try to invade the kingdom for territory. The citizens here look like Inuits from real life.
This kingdom is allied with the Mountain Kingdom and Forest Kingdom, as it lives closest to those two. They sometimes give resources to the Tundra Kingdom, when they need it.
This Kingdom has a Queen and Prince. The Prince's name is Yuka and he has a Nyctoxon.
Swamp Kingdom
The Swamp Kingdom is one of the most feared kingdoms. It's said that the Swamp Kingdom is full of monstrous creatures that will tear you to shreds if they get the chance. That there's cobwebs hanging from the trees with Viracniars ready to trap you in them, and that slime flows in the rivers, making you deathly sick if you were to drink it...
However, this is all just rumors! The Swamp Kingdom may not have the friendliest looking creatures, but the civilians there can truly see the beauty in everything. They take in hurt or abandoned creatures and they take care of all that is unwanted. This is truly one of the most peaceful kingdoms, and they're mostly left totally unbothered, because other kingdoms don't dare to attack them. The civilians don't really care about all of the gossip revolving around them. Due to the close forestation of this kingdom, the citizens tend to have pretty light skin as they aren't under the sun much.
The Swamp Kingdom has both a King and a Queen. The King's name is Clayro and he has a Kendyll. The Queen's name is Flora and she has a Lus'Adarch.
Plains Kingdom
The Plains Kingdom is one that is rather unheard of. This kingdom has large open fields, and obviously, plains, which causes it to have rather large or quick creatures. The kingdom keeps to itself most of the time, claiming total independence. They are also said to have the cleanest air in the entirety of Sonaria, despite neighboring the City Kingdom, which is said to have high pollution. The citizens of this kingdom have dark skin, as they rarely have cover from the sun and spend a lot of time under it.
The King's name is Adavan and he has a Yeba'idi. The Queen's name is Aadhira and she has a Lmakosauruodon.
Desert Kingdom
The Desert Kingdom is one that has quite the reputation for being full of thieves and scavengers. Due to the rather limited resources of this kingdom, there is a rather huge ratio between those who are wealthy and those who are not. Royals and those who serve them are often dressed with robes of fine fabric and jewelry made of gold, while those who are average civilians and poor, have clothes that are slightly torn and rough, and can be seen begging for money in the streets of large cities. Do not let them fool you, however, as most people in this kingdom are not scared to pickpocket, or rob, unsuspecting tourists. The citizens here tend to have pretty dark skin, due to their time spent under the hot sun.
The capital of the Desert Kingdom is called Oasis. Many creatures and humans gather here, as it is a rather luxurious spot.
This kingdom is allied with the Volcano Kingdom and will often send resources to them, but they do not personally fight in the war.
The Desert Kingdom has both a king and queen. The King's name is Ekon and he has a Hygos. The Queen's name is Akila and she has a Vetemortem.
Basic information:
This is a list of information that might be helpful to understand the universe.
Tiers
Tiers in this story are like ranks of creatures, specifically about who can own them or what they can be used for
Tier 1 - Normally pets, everyone can own them
Tier 2 - Almost everyone can own them, however these can also be used in common jobs such as those who work in hospitals or shepherds for farmers.
Tier 3 - These creatures are mainly used in the military or by nobles.
Tier 4 - These creatures may only be owned by Princes and Princesses.
Tier 5 - These creatures may only be owned by Kings and Queens.
Glimmers
Glimmer creatures are often messengers, and therefore hardly get shot down, even during wars. However, glimmer creatures are also often hunted down by poachers, who think that wearing a glimmer's pelt will give them luck and fortune. Of course, this is just superstition and not true.
Wardens
The Wardens are old legends, who are worshiped. All of their locations are unknown, and most have never seen one in their entire lifetime, except for the Boreal Warden, who's a pet to Queen Beatrice of the City Kingdom and is shown off at the parades held there. It is said that when the world is ever to come into true danger, that all the Wardens will come together and establish peace and order.
Flower Cove
The Flower Cove is a sacred place that not many dare visit. This is because many hear that those who go in never come back out, as creatures will take them as intruders or people who want to disturb the peace.
Chapter 2: PROLOGUE
Chapter Text
"The air forces are coming!" A soldier yelled, sirens in the village already wailing, alerting everybody in the Forest Kingdom to stay inside their homes.
And sure enough, hundreds of deafening roars boomed from the direction of the Volcano Kingdom, Sochuris flying up and making the sky turn dark as they swarmed underneath the sun.
"Lieutenant, sir, what are we going to do?" A soldier nearly whined, his voice shaking as he looked at the incoming swarm, then back to the higher rank.
The Lieutenant Colonel turned his head towards the soldier, quickly coming up with a way to encourage his battalion to battle the horde.
"Do you remember what we say to Death?" The Lieutenant asked every soldier that his loud voice could reach. All of them gave a harsh nod and loud, agreeing hum. "Then repeat after me!" He loudly ordered, hoping his voice reached everyone in the battalion he was leading.
"Sir, yes sir!" A parade of voices, high and low, feminine and masculine, all went together.
"We look Death in the eye and say to her, 'send me to Heaven or Hell, but we will always be proud of the fact we died protecting our Kingdom, no matter what you do to us!'" The soldiers and the Lieutenant chanted together. "Have I made myself clear?" The Lieutenant shouted.
"Sir, yes sir!" The soldiers stood straighter, held more steadily onto their creatures and weapons.
"Good! Now let's kill some darn bats!" The Lieutenant Colonel bellowed.
"Sir, yes sir!" The soldiers said collectively before charging into battle on their creatures, humans making a battle cry and creatures roaring their mighty hearts out.
From afar, the King was watching, squinting his eyes against the ongoing battle. "I need to help them." He said mostly to himself, but aware of the servant beside him, keeping an ear out for any orders or requests.
"Your Majesty, are you sure that's a wise idea? I mean-" The servant stuttered for a second. "Not to seem disrespectful, your Highness, but you're not as strong as you used to.. be..." The servant trailed off, curling in on themself under the gaze of the King.
The King did not react to the words of his servant, he knew they were right. But he also knew he had to protect his Kingdom.
"Fetch my Gramoss, I will be by the gates of my castle in 10 minutes so make sure to be there by then." He ordered in a grave voice, his gaze unflinching as he stared off into the distance, fire falling from the skies and flashes of all mixes of colors filled the ground, the creature battalion charging into battle with pure bravery and loyalty for their Kingdom.
"Of course, right away your Majesty." The servant bowed to the King, quickly scurrying away towards the Royal Gramoss' pen in slight embarrassment from their interaction.
The King prepared himself for the battle, taking in a deep breath and then making his way towards the gates, taking his time as he looked at all the details in the hallways of his castle, his gaze lingering an extra second on the family photo with him, his wife and son.
"Father!" A young voice and quick steps behind him, yes, this was his son indeed.
"Yes?" The King did not turn, but he didn't have to as the Prince walked in front of him.
"Are you really going into battle? We both know you're not as mighty as you used to be." This time the statement was confident and sure, no faltering at the end. The King wonders how many times he'll hear it, perhaps this is the last time?
"So you've heard, Faunus? Words really do travel fast here." The King nodded to his son in a greeting, giving a light chuckle.
"Father, you shouldn't!" Prince Faunus insisted, hoping his father would see reason.
"Faunus, have I ever told you about why I gave you your name?" The King said solemnly, avoiding eye contact with his son.
"No?" The Prince nearly scoffed, "Father, how this important to the conversation-"
The King cut his son off. "Your name means God of forest. Fitting name, isn't it?" He smiled warmly. "You see, when you were born, it was like the whole forest bloomed. Wild creatures had gotten nearer to our village than ever before in the nine months you laid in your mother's belly. Your birth was both a celebration and a loss for your mother, but a celebration nonetheless. But what made it special was the fact the creatures mourned and celebrated with us. They could sense something special in you, and so could we. Me, and your mom." The King finished, finally looking at his son.
The Prince was stunned, he couldn't form a word.
"You know I love you, right?" The King put a hand on Faunus' shoulder.
"Yes, father." Prince Faunus ducked his head.
"Good," The King flashed the Prince a smile, then looked away again. "Guards! Please take the Prince to his room and make sure he does not escape the castle at any point."
"Wait- Father!" Faunus exclaimed as guards came, grabbing a hold of the Prince's arms. "Get off me!" He yelped, trying to shake them off. "Father, please don't go! I need you- Father!"
The King walked away from the Prince, his cries fading into the background. Don't look back. was repeated like a mantra in his head, I have to stay strong.
And so, the King reached the gates and rode off into battle.
-
It was a shot to the chest that doomed him. An arrow, nearly fired right into his heart, hit the King as he charged towards the enemy. They were so close to winning, too. The King barely reacted, maybe he was in shock, maybe he had already accepted fate and was welcoming Death with open arms. Slowly, he slid off his Gramoss, falling into the dirt with no time to raise his arms to block himself.
His Gramoss immediately noticed, stopping and looking back at its now injured owner. It glanced at the enemy line, then backed off to stand defensively over the King.
The King held his hand on his wound, though he knew it wouldn't do anything to help. He could feel the blood oozing out, the warm liquid staining his hand.
"Looks like this is where the flower withers, buddy." The King rasped, patting his Gramoss on the leg. It growled softly in response, glancing at him for a second.
"Take care of my son, will you? He'll make a fine king." The King said, smiling, his eyes crinkling. Suddenly, he felt a lot older now. He felt the weakening in his bones and he succumbed to the grass, pretending the warmth of the fires' flames were the blazing sun, shining onto him in his final moments. I can finally visit you, my love. The King thought. His muscles relaxed and his breathing deepened, before finally stopping.
-
The prince paced back and forwards in his room, sighing exasperatedly. He had closed the curtains and given up all attempts of escaping his room. It seemed that as he got older, the guards got more and more used to his tricks.
"Prince Faunus!" A servant suddenly barged into his room, surprising him for a moment.
"For the last time, I don't want another glass of water!" He grit out, irritation seeping into his tone.
"What?- That's not what I'm here for, your Highness." The servant clarified.
"Then what is it?" The Prince ran his hands through his hair in a way to calm himself, though it barely helped.
"It's your father..." The servant lamented and Faunus narrowed his eyes. "He died in the battle." The servant looked at the ground, slightly ducking his head in sorrow.
"Of course he did." The Prince muttered, clenching his fists, but tried not to let his emotions show on his face.
"But your Highness, we won the war-" The servant started, but was cut off by the to-be-king Prince.
"War is never won, in all wars something is lost. In this case, it was the King. We can never win a war." Faunus conceded, his hands slightly shaky as he was stressing out, though he tried not to show.
"That's very wise, your Highness." The servant said, a little shocked.
"When will my crowning be?" He asked, keeping his voice monotime and looking away from the servant.
"This weekend, your Highness."
"And my assigned creature?" The to-be-King asked, a little impatient.
"Will be revealed at the celebration." The servant smiled.
Right, I suppose I should be a bit more patient now that I'm going to be "king." Prince Faunus thought to himself, huffing.
"Okay," He took a deep breath, closing his eyes. "You're excused." He said, waving a hand, signaling the servant to leave his room. They bowed, then turned and left, shutting his room's door behind them.
"I promise I'll make you proud, father." The to-be-King opened his eyes, glaring.
Chapter 3: CHAPTER 1
Chapter Text
The cage doors to the crates opened quickly, and even quicker out came this race's Vin'rous. They sped along the track, wind gushing past them as their thin and flexible limbs allowed them to move with maximum speed. They practically became blurs as they flew in the long oval which was the track, blue and orange mixing together. The Vin'rous were equipped with muzzles, making sure that they couldn't use their breathing ability or bite the other contestants.
The huge crowd gathered around the racing track practically roared with cheers and yells in excitement, most of them standing up from the seats in the grandstand.
"And currently in the lead we have Ziggy! He is on lap 3 out of 6, halfway done with the race! Of course right behind him, there is Blitz, who is certainly going nearly wing to wing with last race's winner!" One of the radio men from the podium announced, voice energetic and strong.
"But what's this? Another contestant is rapidly approaching the two in the front! It's Roadrunner! This Vin'rou is speeding past the others, leaving them all behind in a smoke of dust! She's reached Blitz!"
There's a couple of gasps of surprise throughout the crowd and unsure murmurs, as the majority have never heard of this competitor before. They all watched intently, trying to keep track of the racing Vin'rous.
Suddenly, they saw a cloud of sand on the race track, and as the sand blew away they saw a fallen Vin'rou. It growled lowly, trying to get up as fast as possible.
"And it looks like Ziggy, our previous 1st place, has been knocked to the ground! So now, in our current lead, we have Roadrunner!" The man from the podium announced, and immediate shouts erupted from the crowd. Some sounded unhappy, others sounding nearly excited. This was indeed a captivating and entertaining race.
However, there was one person during all of this, who seemingly didn't appear to care at all. That person was Freesia. A teenage girl, who's favourite colour is purple and who would much rather be anywhere else than here right now. She had brown hair and blue eyes, as well as caucasian skin. She wore a significant brown pouch which she carried nearly everywhere and in the pouch was her favourite book of all time, which had all sorts of information about the wildlife of Sonaria.
A sigh escaped her and she rested her cheek on her hand, the only one sitting among the standing crowd around her. Even her mother, who had dragged her to the race in the first place, was eagerly watching and cheering on the Vin'rous. She wasn't a fan of big events and crowds, no, she had always felt a stronger connection to the wild. She'd much rather be taking a stroll in the nearby forest, right outside the borders of the kingdom, enjoying the sounds of nature.
Something big in the race seemed to happen, and nearly the entire crowd roared with their yells and cheers for excitement. Freesia thought her eardrums were about to burst with all of the noise around her. She glanced at her mother, noticing how fixated she was in the race. Then, she glanced at the exit of the stadium. She glanced between the two for a bit, before making a decision.
Being as quiet as she could (even though the roar of the crowd was already deafening), she sneaked through the seats, avoiding stepping on any feet as she weaved her way through the row, her mother not noticing a thing. She hushedly apologized to anyone in her way that she had to push by, glancing momentarily back to her mother to make sure she didn't notice she had left. Finally, she reached the exit of the stadium and hurriedly walked out, a sigh of relief escaping her as she escaped the loud noise of the crowd.
Freesia glanced around. Honestly, she hadn't really expected to make it this far, so she didn't know what to do now. She stood still for a moment, wondering, when suddenly an idea came to her. She rushed down the stairs of the outside of the stadium, knowing exactly where to go. The forest. She glanced down, happy she brought her pouch with her to the stadium.
As she was on her way, she began to slow down as she reached the streets. While the streets were certainly less crowded due to most watching the race, there was still quite a lot of people walking here, who Freesia would rather not run into. Knowing it was quite a long walk until she'd reach the forest, she let her thoughts wander, thinking about all sorts of things in Sonaria.
She thought about the kingdoms. There was the Forest Kingdom, Volcano Kingdom, Tundra Kingdom, Mountain, Desert, Swamp, Plains and Water. All different in landscape, people and culture, each with a royal to rule it. She thought about the creatures, hundreds of different species in all different places. Creatures who help and are owned by humans for all different kinds of reasons. Freesia's truly fascinated by them, ever since she was a child she loved seeing and hearing about creatures in Sonaria. A smile grew on her face at just the thought of them.
She was suddenly brought out of her thought process as she noticed something on the other side of the road. She knew what it was immediately. Its plush-like look, brown fur and big fluffy tail are unmistakable. It's a Rukig, one of Freesia's favourite creatures. She adored how adorable it was, bringing joy to almost anyone who meets it. However, Freesia noted with a sigh, she could never own one. They're only owned by celebrities, coming at a large prize that she could never even dream of being able to afford. Perhaps a Eulopii would do for now. A Gobli if she's lucky enough for her mother to allow it.
She turned a corner on the street and she saw the forest in the distance, her pace quickening a bit. Her smile grows as well, glad to see some nature after that cramped stadium. She quickly neared the tall redwood trees at the border of the forest, pulling out her creature book from her pouch.
She admired the trees of the forest, enjoying the sound of their leaves rustling in the breeze high above her and the faint sound of avians chirping in the branches. She found a tree giving a nice shade to the ground beneath the sun, sitting down by its trunk and opening her book. She was engulfed immediately, eyes tracking across the lines on the pages with excitement.
A rustle in the bushes suddenly brung her out of her focus. She looked up confusedly, an eyebrow raised. She leaned to the side, looking towards where she thought she heard the sound from. Freesia squinted her eyes, noticing something... weird in the bushes.
"What is that.." She muttered to herself, examining the... whatever it was. It looked kinda like a large dark branch, with even larger purple petals growing out of it. Freesia knew more about fauna than flora, but she was certain she'd never seen or heard of anything like this branch before.
She slowly set her book on the ground, getting up and moving closer towards the wood-petal thing with slight hesitance, curiousity burning through her. As she got closer, she noticed a weird bioluminescent pattern or symbol on the wooden part, glowing even in broad daylight. It glowed a light pink, which honestly matched the petals nicely.
Freesia was in front of the (branch? She still wasn't sure, but guesses that's what it is) now, and she crouched down. She tentatively reached out a hand, placing it on the dark wood. It was smooth, like it had been cut to remove the bark. She pursed her lips in thought, grabbing around the branch and trying to lift it up.
Suddenly, she hit the ground with a yelp as the branch.. moved forwards? She instinctively grabbed onto the branch with both hands as it began to move again.
"Woah!" She exclaimed, feeling herself getting dragged through the undergrowth as it pulled, twigs stabbing her sides and dirt getting all over her clothes.
She clenched her eyes tightly shut, afraid of dirt getting pushed into them. Her grip was tight on the branch, still not letting go of it, until finally, it stopped. Freesia felt herself getting pulled upwards and off the ground, not even her toes being able to touch the earth beneath her.
"Ow.." She murmured, slowly blinking her eyes open. First thing she saw was her clothes, stained with the dirt she'd been dragged through. Second thing she saw was the ground, her feet hovering above it. But the third thing she saw..
Freesia looked up and in front of her was a creature of large size. Dark, smooth branches and wood curled around its body, leaves and flowers growing on the wood. It had large wings, different shades of purple feathers adorning them, the body matching. Bioluminescent markings shone light pink on both the wood and underbelly of the creature. It had a beak, with cold, analyzing blue eyes.
And the creature...
It was staring right at her.
