Work Text:
Cole's eyes opened from a restless sleep. He sighed quietly and turned his head to look at the small alarm clock resting on the bedstand. 2:10 am, and he needed to wake up for work soon. He grumbled quietly to himself as he rubbed his suspiciously wet eyes. Hanzo, his beloved husband, moved in his sleep. He bumped his head lightly against Cole's chin to attempt cuddling closer to him. The older man would always complain about being cold (and he always felt cold to the touch. It honestly worried Cole sometimes) and would always make sure his husband was in bed with him because, in his words, "You're a natural heater, I'm surprised you can still get cold sometimes."
Cole hummed as he ran his fingers through Hanzo's long hair; it was one of his favorite things about the other. He tucked loose strands behind his ear and noticed the drool on the side of the man's mouth that moved down to his chest. Weirdly enough, he found it to be adorable, while Hanzo hated how he could drool when he was comfortable enough (or, if he was tired enough. It'd even be accompanied by the rare snores Hanzo would let out)
The cowboy wanted to get up to walk around like he used to do so he would burn enough energy to go back to sleep, even if he'd wake up sleepier than before... But watching the beautiful man that he had the luck of marrying sleeping peacefully calmed the rushing panic from when he woke up. He kissed the top of Hanzo's head gently and let out another sigh.
Maybe the small movements might've been too much, or maybe Hanzo had a 6th sense just for Cole because he always woke up if Cole stayed up too long after waking up from a dream (or just waking up randomly during the night) but the man was now awake and lifted his head to stare directly at him. Cole smiled and sat up just enough to catch Hanzo's lips in a small kiss. "Hey, sugar." He only got a small hum in response, but it was to be expected since Hanzo never spoke after just waking up. Hanzo rolled on top of him completely and laid his head back down onto Cole's chest, not quite going back to sleep but still attempting to get comfortable.
"Sorry if I woke ya." He whispered before kissing the other's forehead. A grunt came from Hanzo and he began to mumble something. "Can't hear ya babycakes, can ya speak up?" A huff came from Hanzo as he sat up a bit, his hands made their way to either side of his husband's face. "Don't apologize. I woke up on my own." His voice was heavy with sleep; even if he assured Cole he didn't wake him it didn't stop him from feeling at fault, which meant it didn't stop him from feeling bad.
"Had a weird dream... It wasn't anything to worry about though." Hanzo eyed him suspiciously before a fine eyebrow was raised. "You're lying. You looked away for a moment as if there's something you don't want me to know." Hanzo then frowned. "You know you can trust me, so why lie?" He seemed hurt by the lie, which made Cole feel bad. "Sorry, 'M sorry. It just bothered me because it felt so real, but 'm so used to the crazy dreams now... Or at least I thought." He let out a shaky sigh. "It did make me a lil' emotional, but I calmed down when I saw you sleepin'. I just didn't wanna worry ya with my dream, so I lied..."
Hanzo hummed and rubbed his thumbs against Cole's cheeks. "My angel, as I've said many times before... I'm here for you, I don't mind listening to your problems. Because your issues aren't a burden to me and I'll always be here to listen no matter what." He gently kissed Cole's nose and smiled. "I love you very much, do not forget something of such high importance." Cole could feel his eyes water as he wrapped his arm tightly around Hanzo's waist.
"Ah, Thank ya, honey... I love ya too, so much, from the very bottom of my heart." Hanzo's thumbs moved to wipe his eyes before he leaned down to kiss each eye. "Would you like to talk about your dream now, my dear?" Cole wasn't confident his voice would be steady, so he replied with a small headshake. "Tomorrow then? We can talk about it in the morning so you can get some sleep now." A small nod came from the man below him, which made him smile and place one last kiss to his lips.
Hanzo wrapped his arms around Cole and turned them both onto their sides so he could run his fingers through Cole's hair, knowing it was something that could calm the man to sleep. "Goodnight Cole, I promise I'll be here in the morning so you can talk to me."
There was still the small fear he was still dreaming, but the fingers moving through his hair brought a small smile to his face and brought him into happier dreams as he fell asleep.
