Chapter Text
I was sitting in class, the teacher was droning on and on about something I didn't care about. I was just waiting for class to end I really needed to get home today. One of my best friends Jemma, she does online school and always is on the internet found information about a possible chaos emerald location. And it was nearby. A chaos emerald holds insane power and I really want to learn how to use it. There are seven of them in total but I only needed one to be able to learn how to use it. The bell finally rang and I ran out of class and into the hallway. I was at my locker getting my bag when Abba walked up behind me.
"Hey Abba," I said while we did a handshake with all her hands, "You still coming over to my house?"
"Yeah are we going now?" she asked.
"Yep lets go," I said.
Abba is a spider she has four hands and legs. She has purple skin with little fur tiffs everywhere and silver eyes.
Once we arrived at my house we walked in the door and immediately got ambushed by my sister Liara. She jumped on my head and pulled on my ears making me stumble around the room.
"Liara stop," I said throwing her onto the ground.
She started laughing, What's her sugar at? I pulled my phone out and went to a app that said "116". I put my phone away, my sister has type one diabetes which means her body doesn't properly process sugar so she has to give herself insulin. The stuff that your body normally produces but hers doesn't.
"Can I come with you?" Liara asked me.
I shook my head, "No we don't know what will happen."
She huffed, "Then why are you going."
"Because I'm just a dumb teenager who wants to do whatever she wants," I said.
"Come on Elle, please," she said as sweetly as she could.
Abba came over and squeezed her cheeks looking at me, "How can you say no?"
"Because I'm used to it," I said.
Abba grabbed me, "Come on nothings going to happen she'll be fine."
I glared at her before rolling my eyes and turning to Liara, "Fine, you can come."
She jumped up in glee.
"But go grab your insulin," I said.
She nodded and ran up to her room to grab it while I rolled my eyes. After a second Liara came back with her fanny pack.
"Let's go I'll get Jemma on the phone," I said pulling my phone out.
I quickly got her on the phone and she instructed us to go to the Black Mountains. There not actually mountains they just look like it from afar, and they look like there black when the sun is setting.
After arriving there I pulled out my phone again, "Ok Jem were here what now?"
Abba looked around at the massive field in front of us, "Jemma this field is massive is there a specific place we should look?"
I heard spluttering, "We can play hot and cold."
Abba sighed, "This will take a while."
I heard Liara sigh.
"Could you at least point us in the right direction?" I asked.
I heard clicking, "Um... go to the lower part in the mountains?"
"Are you asking us where to go or telling us?" I asked her.
"I'm telling you," she said, "Go to the lowest location you can go, it's North-bound."
I rolled my eyes but waved the girls toward the place she said to go.
Once we got there Jem told us, "Yep, this is the general area I found the energy."
"So what now we just have to look?" Liara asked.
"Yeah, I have it on my monitor screen but I can't send it to you," she said, "Right now Liara is closet to it and it's on her left."
We all started searching for it, but before we could get very far into our search a giant robot with drills attached to it came crashing into the very small area we were in.
"What is that!?" I screamed.
The robot turned around and there was a large round bald man driving it. A hand came out, picked us up and threw us all into a clear tube in the center of the robot.
"Ow," Liara said as I rushed over.
"Are you guys ok?" I asked looking for any injurie's.
"Were fine," Liara said.
"What is happening?!" Abba asked.
I looked at her annoyed, "Yeah nothing bad will happen."
Jemma screamed at me, "Not right now Elle, go over to the control panel in the center and I can get you out."
I looked around there was a tube in the center with a panel in it. I walked over to it and ripped of the metal piece covering it.
"Now what," I said.
It was silent for a second, "Let me figure this out for a second."
I waited for a moment before a rumbling started shaking around us and I could see that the robot was digging into the ground.
"What's it doing?" Abba asked.
"It's looking for the emerald," I said, "Jemma hurry!"
As we continued waiting for her to figure it out something hit the container we were in and we all fell over.
"Oh god what now?" I asked.
I looked up again once we were standing and saw a group of people, a blue hedgehog, a fox, a pink hedgehog, and a red echidna. They kept beating up the robot.
"Hey Jemma any time now," I said trying to stand up.
Her face appeared on the screen, "See the blue and orange wire?"
I flipped my phone to face the wires, "Yep."
"Pull the them from there original spots and connect the blue and orange one together," she said.
I did what she said and the glass from the cage went down.
"Ok time to leave," I said pushing Abba and Liara out.
They both jumped down to the ground and started running away from the robot. I was about to jump out and follow them but the hedgehog hit the container again and made me fall back into the robot. I grabbed onto the wire panel.
"Elle!" I heard Abba and Liara yell for me.
"I'm fine!" I screamed back.
I looked around, maybe I can stop this thing, I thought, No just get out! The other side of me thought. Letting my good side rule I pulled my phone up to my face.
"Can we get the robot to stop?" I asked her.
"What do you mean Elle? The walls are down get out of there!" Jemma said clearly worried for my safety.
I hesitated and looked back towards the open world, "I-I'm gonna try to turn it off, can you help?"
Silence before, "Ok but hurry go back to the panel."
I turned back to the panel, "Anything?"
There was clicking on the other side of the keyboard, "Pull the green wire out and attach the red one to purple then rip the blue and orange ones out."
She said as I tried to keep up and did what she said. I waited a second before the robot went limp and started falling. I celebrated for a second before remembering that I was still inside. I started trying to get out but the robot fell over and I fell back into the ground as it landed on top of me.
"Elle? Elle!? What's happening are you ok?" Jemma asked still on the phone.
"It... fell. On... me," I said breathlessly.
I started grunting trying to push one of the bars off of me.
"Abba! Liara! Help!" I screamed.
I started seeing light from the outside and hearing a voice I didn't recognize. Liara's hand stuck through.
"Can I pull you out?" she asked.
"There's a bar over my stomach I can't move," I said still trying to push it off me.
"Do you think you can stay down there while we get this off you?" a male voice I didn't recognize asked me.
"Yeah I'll be ok for a little," I said.
I heard there footsteps retreating and I was still trying to push the bar of me but something cut my arm. Jemma was talking to me the whole time making sure I was ok and comforting me.
"Ouch," I whispered.
I looked over and saw a small staff, it had a clear container that was empty and a silver wrap around it. It had a purple jewel on the tip of it and bone wings on it. I picked it up and examined it, the glass had a hole in it as if something had escaped... I was confused but decided to just set it down and leave it there.
After a while the bar on top of me started moving and Liara helped me out.
"Are you ok?" Liara asked me worried.
"I'm fine, just a little sore in the stomach," I said, "What's your sugar at?"
"I'm fine what about you?" she said, "Your sure your not hurt?"
"Like I said just a little sore," I said.
"Glad your ok," Abba said hugging me and Liara from behind.
I stood up after they let me go and glanced over to see the group of mobians I saw fighting the robot.
He walked over to me, "Hey, I'm Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog." He said proudly flicking his nose, almost as if I should have known who he was.
"I've never heard of you," I said, "But thanks for getting me out of there."
He looked almost shocked at how he said I didn't know who he was but brushed it off.
"These are my friends Tails, Amy, and Knuckles," he said introducing his friends, "And you are?"
"Elle," I said, "That's my sister Liara and my friend Abba."
"How did you turn of the robot?" the fox who was named Tails asked.
"I was on call with my friend Jemma," I said, "She's a technical savvy."
I lifted up my phone to show Jemma's face, "Hi."
"Sweet how did you know what to do?" Tails asked.
I turned my phone back to me to see her shaking her head in a way that said 'I don't want to talk to them'.
"She's not a very social person," I said.
"Oh," Tails replied.
I looked back at my friends, "Hey you guys remember that thing we have to do?"
They both nodded at me but before we could continue trying to find the emerald the red echinda, Knuckles came up and punched me.
"What you did back there took guts," he said, "good job."
"Ow jeez," I said rubbing my arms before noticing his massive gloves with spikes, "Nice gloves you got there. And uh, thanks,"
"Thanks," he said, "and your welcome."
"Ok then..." I said, "See you never I guess."
The pink hedgehog almost looked offended at that.
"What no!" she said, "We have to see each other again, you guys seem so nice."
Liara giggled and ran up to her, "Yeah you seem really kind to."
They started chatting and I looked over at Abba uncomfortably and saw her giving me the same look. I would prefer that this total stranger NOT hug my sister. I thought, I'm very social but I don't go up and hug random people.
I grabbed Liara, "Yes well it was very nice meeting you all but we have to be somewhere soon."
"Oh that's such a shame," Amy said before lighting up, "Can I get your number?"
"Oh I-" I tried to decline but Liara ran away from my grasp.
"Yes!" she said.
They started exchanging phone numbers and my arm started throbbing. I looked down to see where Knuckles had punched me to see the scratch and a large bruise developing. Great.
Liara walked back to me and we finally started to leave but Sonic intrupted.
"Wait do you need a ride back?" he asked.
"No, we have to stay here a while longer," I said.
"But you said-" Liara tried but I covered her mouth and plastered a fake smile across my face.
They could tell I was telling them to leave so they FINALLY GOT THE MESSAGE and left.
I sighed, "God."
I sank down to the ground while Abba gave me a supporting smile.
"Every second of that looked uncomfortable," Jemma said from my phone, "And I'm not even fully there."
"Yeah I'm not sure what's worse seeing that play out or just hearing it," I said.
Abba laughed.
"C'mon let's find the chaos emerald," I said.
I stood up again and we started searching in the spot that the robot had dug. Assuming that's where it was, because lets be honest; Why else would you come out in the middle of no where in a field to see a bunch of kids. We started digging the broken robot out from the hole and beeping got louder from the other side of the screen. Soon I started feeling a energy radiating from the ground and we directed our digging towards the spot I was feeling it. Soon enough we dug up a small yellow emerald.
"Holy sh!t," I said in disbelief, "We really just hit the jackpot."
"I thought it was just a myth," Abba said.
"Do you not believe me?" Jemma asked annoyed.
"We believe you but we don't believe you," Abba said, "You get me?"
"Sure," Jemma said sounding confused.
I reached into the pit and picked it up. When I did I could feel the energy pulsating and felt it travel up my arm.
"I can feel it's energy," I said fascinated.
"Elle use it," Liara said jumping around.
I was going to when I remembered, "I don't know how?"
"Do you seriously just go through all that to realize you don't know how?" Jemma asked through the phone.
I held my face, "No, I knew I couldn't' use it, I wanted to learn how."
They all turned and scolded me, "Elle!"
"I'm sorry, I'll just try to learn how to use it," I said trying to distract them from the fact that I didn't know how.
But Abba refused to let me do that, "No you're putting that thing back before something else terrible happens."
"But we came all this way," I said, "That's literally the only reason we came you know that."
"No Abby's right go put it back," Liara said sassily.
"Look you need to be quiet," I said whispering to her.
"Abba's right Elle, go put it back," Jemma said, "It's just safer that way. Especially after what happened, imagine what could have happened."
I panicked at the thought that one of them could have gotten badly injured. I sighed and stopped complaining putting the emerald back where I found it.
"Well now I'm regretting not letting them take us home," I said.
"Wait so you just said no because you wanted the emerald?" Liara asked, "Now we have to walk back!"
"Yeah, I'm sorry. Come on lets go its a long walk home," I said as we all started walking in that direction.
I let Abba and Liara walk ahead of me with my phone talking to Jemma. I turned back, I could still see the light the emerald was generating.
"Go get it," I heard my conscious keep telling me.
I wanted to, so badly. But I heard Abba yell for me so I didn't have time and ran back to them.
