Chapter 1: To the moon

Chapter Text

Ochako woke with a start, turning to her bedside table she saw the clock read 2:15am. With a sigh she tried to close her eyes once again, dreading the thought of another nightmare. The war had ended a little over a year ago and things were very slowly getting back to “normal”, but the dreams never stopped. The screaming, the crying, the fear. It never leaves you and it plagued her dreams every night.

She laid with her eyes closed for what seemed like hours, sleep seeming to elude her once again. Cracking her eye open the clock read 2:30.

With a groan Ochako wondered if anyone else was finding it hard to sleep tonight. Her thoughts wondering to a particular spiky blonde.

Her and Bakugou had become particularly close in the last year. Finding him in the state that he was, a hole in his chest, arm mangled and twisted in ways it shouldn’t and his eye beaten badly but thankfully not blinded, Ochako was shook to her core. Seeing him fragile and broken, not yelling and smirking and confident, those were the memories that overtook her nightmares the most.

Visiting him in the hospital became a regular routine as he recovered. At first he didn’t take too kindly to being treated “like a baby.” In his own words. But as she continued to visit she grew on him more and more and slowly he started to accept the help with only a little complaining. She opened up to him and he opened up to her, and slowly but surely they began to heal.

Half a year after the war Bakugou was finally released from the hospital, only needing physical therapy twice a week for his arm and Ochako’s parents finally got their home back into a livable state which of course meant Ochako went back with them. It would be another half a year before they all got to return to U.A. They kept in contact via Texts and sometimes calls.

Not too long after they went back to their homes did Ochako receive a package in the mail. Not knowing who it was from she opened it to find a heart shaped lamp that resembled the moon. In the box was a note that read: Touch the lamp when you have a hard time sleeping.

That night Ochako plugged it in. When it turned on, a pink hue illuminate off of it casting her room in a gentle glow. Thinking back to the note, she reached out and touched the lamp with four fingers. At first nothing happened which caused her a bit of confusion since the note specified to touch it.

Just as she was getting ready to take her hand off the lamp thinking maybe it was defective, the lamp shone brighter. Hearing her phone buzz she took her hand away and reached for it. She’d received a text.

Blasty: Hey, Cheeks. I see you got the package. You good?

Angel Face: This lamp was from you? It’s beautiful! How did you know I got it?

Blasty: you touched it right? When someone touches the lamp it shines brighter for the matching pair. I thought it would help you to know someone was close by when you have a nightmare.

Blushing Ochako stared at his reply her heart skipping a beat. She knew she was growing feeling for him even back at the hospital. Smiling tenderly she touched the lamp again and sent another reply.

Angel Face: Thank you, Bakugou. This is really sweet.

Blasty: it’s Notin’ just promise you’ll only use it when ya need too. This crap was hard to get.

Angel Face: Will do! ;)

They continue to use the lamps to connect to each other. Most of the time it would be Ochako who touched it first but sometimes Bakugou came through first.

As her memories faded away back to her room at U.A Ochako glance over at the dimly lit lamp. She wanted to touch it but being back at school meant they were even more exhausted after a long day of catching up to a year of missed subjects. She didn’t want to wake him by making it shine brighter if he was finally getting a restful sleep.

Tossing and turning she found no rest when suddenly her room illuminated in a bright pink, indicating that the matching lamp on the other side was being touched. Quickly she reached out letting Bakugou know she was there, awake just like him.

A warmth spread in her chest as she texted him.
Angel Face: Couldn’t sleep, huh?

Blasty: Nightmare. Sorry if I woke you.

Angel Face: Oh no! I had a nightmare too. I was worried I’d wake you.

Blasty: Touch it any time you need. That’s what they are here for.

Angel Face: The same goes to you :)

Blasty: after class, we need to talk. I won’t keep you. try to get some sleep. We have a long day again.

Heart pounding at the thought of what he needed to talk to her about that he couldn’t say over text she replied.

Angel Face: Okay, I’ll be waiting. Can I touch the lamp until I fall asleep?

Blasty: Use it as long as you need, Cheeks. I’ll be here.

Once his last text came through her lamp lite bright again. She could almost feel his touch from the other end as if he was there in her room arms wrapped around her. A comfort filled her as she reached back out to her own lamp sending her signal back.

Getting comfortable in her blankets, she laid her arm out on the table, fingers touching the lamp as she drifted into a peaceful sleep excited to see him in class the next day, all the while her lamp continuing to shine brightly through the night as Bakugou too fell into a peaceful sleep hand on his own.
