Three Missing Teens and Some Frogs: A Youtube Sensation

Summary:

Anne discovers that while she was in Amphibia, a true crime youtuber had a made a video about her and friends' disappearance, which had brought attention to their little vlog channel they'd made a few months before getting zapped into frog land.

Well.

She had some footage on her phone from her time in Amphibia, surely it wouldn't hurt to show all of their new subscribers what they'd been up to over the past five months?

This was a good idea.

Notes:

Hi welcome to something I wrote in all of an hour in an inspiration frenzy lol. I am deep in Amphibia hyperfocus right now, and have been for about a week. So. This exists now.

Enjoy!

Chapter 1: What's up Youtube

Chapter Text

Anne looked around her room, a nauseating combination of nostalgia, deja-vu, and disconnection threatening to bring her to her knees. She hadn’t been here in five months. That wasn’t… that much, yet, she still felt like everything was different. Or rather, she was different.

She wasn’t the same person now that she had been the last time she had stood here. Far from. That girl had lived a safe, happy, secure life. She hated responsibility, and didn’t have a care beyond getting a bad grade on a test. The person standing here now was a little jaded, she’d faced death and despair, injury and grief, and had spat in the face of danger. She had so much on her shoulders that she was sure her past self wouldn’t have crumbled under the weight.

It was weird .

The Plantars were downstairs, being entertained by her parents, leaving Anne to re-explore her old life on her own.

She drifted over to where her laptop was plugged into the wall, just as it had been five months ago. Her parents had barely touched any of her stuff… and she wasn’t sure how to feel about it. After a whole five months, they’d have probably assumed that she was…

Anyway, Laptop. Yeah, that felt like a better thing to focus on.

Youtube studio was the first thing that greeted her when she logged in, and she snorted to herself. She, Sasha, and Marcy had made a youtube channel together a few months before Anne’s disastrous birthday, which they used to upload amateur videos of them all having fun together.

Anne clicked on one of their videos… against her better judgment. It probably wasn’t healthy to torture herself with this, of them all being perfectly idyllic together like this.

The video she’d chosen was a simple one, of them playing truth or dare without the truth at one of their sleepovers. Sasha had done most of the filming, and Marcy had done the editing. It wasn’t terrible, even if it made Anne’s heart hurt.

She frowned, noticing the video’s view count. This video had 17k views.

Since when had any of their videos received more than a few hundred views? Anne knew they had some classmates who watched their channel, but still, before this their most popular video had only four hundred views, nothing in the ballpark of seventeen thousand .

She checked some of the other videos, and discovered that seventeen thousand was actually on the low end. What in the world had happened while they were gone to make their little youtube channel blow up like this?

She furrowed her brows, and tucked her tongue between her teeth in concentration. She opened up a google tab, and typed her own name. As expected of google, the results were instant. There were news articles, and speculation pieces, their school’s website and some forums she knew her classmates trolled. It was a whole lot more than she’d been expecting, really.

As depressing as it was, people went missing all the time. There was no reason that she and her friends should have attracted this much- ah.

She’d ignored it on the first scroll, thinking it was one of her own videos, but close to the top was a video titled ‘Three teen girls vanish without a trace, runaways, or something more sinister?’. It looked a heck of a lot more professional than the videos on their own channel, so it was worth checking out.

She recognized the channel name. She’d watched a few of their videos with Sasha and Marcy at a sleepover once. This channel’s forte was true crime videos, and Sasha had dared them all to watch some of the gnarliest ones and then try to fall asleep. Sasha had been the only one to manage it.

Wow , Anne had been featured on a true crime youtube channel. Not exactly a life dream or anything, but it was kind of cool. Still, it explained where all the attention was coming from. The video itself gave their channel a shoutout, since it used clips from their videos in its argument that they hadn’t been runaways.

Anne leaned back into her pillows. She’d just thought of a terrible idea.

The channel actually belonged to Sasha, since they’d made it under her Gmail account on her thirteenth birthday, but all three of them knew the login, and could upload videos. They’d all gotten a bit of a habit of recording those few months, and Anne knew that she hadn’t exactly stopped once she got to Amphibia.

She’d mostly forgotten about it, but when she’d first arrived in the other world, she’d recorded her experiences with the intention of uploading them once she got home. The last four or so months of her trip though, she’d mostly thought of it as a digital diary, since only she could really watch it.

She could always go back to plan A, though.

They had tons more subscribers, all of whom had come from that true crime video. Their comments were flooded with well wishes, and even some well meaning eulogies. All those people were waiting, hoping for them to return.

Oh, this was such a bad idea.

Mentally reprimanding herself all the while, she clicked open her video editing software…

—-

Anne’s Thirteenth Birthday!

The Sharps

The camera opens on the grinning face of Anne Boonchuy in her room, early morning sunlight streaming in through the window.

Anne: “Hey guys! Guess what? It’s my birthday! I’m officially a teenager, how cool is that!? Ah, I’ve been waiting for this for so long . I’m the last one of our trio to have my birthday after all.  I’m meeting up with Sasha and Marcy at school later, and I’m sure they have something planned for me! I can’t wait to see what it is! Muurp!”

Anne covers the camera with a hand, and it transitions to a shot of her and Sasha sitting on a bench in a park somewhere.

Anne: “So, apparently that thing that was planned was ‘skipping school’.”

Anne rolls her eyes.

Sasha: “Oh c’mon Anne, it’s your birthday! Now we can do so much more cool stuff!”

Anne: “I am so lucky my parents don’t watch our channel.” she sighs .

Sasha: “Let’s goooo!” She whoops, throwing her hands in the air.

The video transitions, light music starts playing along with a montage of Sasha and Anne doing various activities together. Sasha is seen filming too, but no footage from her phone is used. The video slows down every once in a while to show one of the girls doing or saying something funny.

The video transitions again, and the music fades out. Anne is walking while filming herself, Sasha bobbing in and out of frame. It is noticeably later, with the sun starting to go down.

Anne: “So, My family party is starting soon, but first Marcy messaged us telling us she’d found the perfect gift for me, so we’re gonna go pick that up before I head back home.”

Sasha can be seen rolling her eyes.

The video hard cuts to footage looking in through a window. Inside there’s an ornately carved wooden armoire, and on top of it, the focus of the camera, is a shiny golden music box, covered in stylized images of frogs with three brightly colored gems on top. The girl’s voices can be heard offscreen, and it seems they’ve been joined by Marcy.

Anne: “Really Marcy? A box with frogs on it?”

Sasha: “Oh my gosh yes, it’s perfect, Anne you remember when we were in second grade and we took that field trip to that pond-”

Anne: “YES I remember, please don’t bring that up.”

Marcy: “C’mon Anne! You’ll love it, I promise!”

The camera flips around, showing the three girls.

Anne: “And how are we gonna get it? Sasha and I spent all of our spending money having fun today, and if you had any money you would have already bought it by the time we got here.

Marcy: “Ehehe, It was that obvious, huh?”

Sasha: “We could just steal it.” she shrugs .

Anne: “What? No!”

Sasha: “And let the Perfect birthday gift get away? Heck no. What’s a little crime for a birthday girl?”

Anne: “Because it’s crime Sasha, the graffiti earlier was bad enough but… stealing?” She cringes away from Sasha . “Come on Marcy, back me up.”

Marcy: “Actually Anne, I’m gonna side with Sasha on this one. I really want you to have that box, and besides, the lady at the till is asleep.” Marcy points offscreen, but the camera does not follow her finger.

Sasha: “C’mon Anne, you know you want it. Just pony up and do it already.” she glares at Anne .

Anne: “I… I- fine. Fine, I’ll do it.”

Marcy: “Yes!”

Sasha: “That’s my girl.”

The scene hard cuts again. The camera shows the box from before sitting on Anne’s lap, before flipping around to show Anne’s uneasy face.

Anne: “I can’t believe I let you guys talk me into this.

Sasha and Marcy duck into frame. Marcy is also filming, but none of her footage is used.

Marcy: “Ahhh I can’t believe we have it! Isn’t it so cool?”

Sasha: “If you like your stuff gaudy. Seriously, that is a lot of fake gold.

Anne: “Sasha you do like stuff like this, and also, how do you know it’s fake?” Sasha raises an eyebrow. “Can I just open this already so I can go home?”

Marcy: “Yeah yeah, sure.” She grins , and Sasha rolls her eyes.

The camera flips around again, and shakes a little as Anne shifts it into a single hand.

Anne: “It’s a music box, right? I wonder what song it plays…”

Anne’s hand can be seen grabbing the lid of the box. She lifts it open. Light explodes from within in many colors. Screams and static can be heard as the light overwhelms the camera, blocking out everything else. The static becomes visual as well, and it seems the video from here on out is corrupted.

The bright, glitching screen continues for a few seconds even as the screaming falls quiet.

The video ends.

__________

Yeah, posting the video may not have been the smartest move on Anne’s part, but what could she say? She had changed a lot, but she was still impulsive… ignoring the two hours she spent editing.

Yes they were supposed to be hiding from the cops and stuff, but it’s not like they would see the video anyway. It wouldn’t hurt to post the footage she had, right? And it certainly wouldn't hurt to take more. She wouldn’t post any recent stuff until she was done with her backlog, anyway. It would be fine.

A Missing 13 yr Old Posts An Ominous Video, Only Contact Since Disappearance

Case By Case

The video opens on Case By Case’s usual, professional set up. Casey herself sits in a gaming chair in the center, looking a little flabbergasted.

Casey: “Alright, so a few months ago I released a video talking about a case that happened right here in LA in which three thirteen year old girls went missing. To give a very quick recap of what happened-

Three images pop up on screen, one of each missing girl.

Casey: “The victims are named Sasha Waybright, Marcy Wu, and Anne Boonchuy. Yes I know they’re minors, but their names and faces are public right here on youtube, and their parents have released images of them as part of search efforts.

“Anyway, The three of them were very, very close friends, as they documented on their youtube channel, called ‘The Sharps’. One day, the three of them went missing without a trace. That day was actually Anne Boonchuy’s birthday, and it has been over five months since then, without any word from the three of them at all.”

The video changes to show a slow scroll of a news article .

Casey: “The police investigated… for a little bit before deciding the girls just ran away from home, and they’d be back soon enough. Obviously they were wrong, since five months have gone by with nothing , but if you want to know more then you should watch my previous video, linked on screen now.

The screen goes back to showing Casey, with a small thumbnail from The Sharps channel in one corner.

Casey: “The reason we know they disappeared on Anne’s birthday is because of their last video before they stopped posting, which proclaimed Anne’s birthday as being the next day. The day after that, the missing person’s report was filed. If they’d been around to post Anne’s birthday video, they would have. The first video on the channel is about Sasha’s birthday, and Marcy got her own birthday video too, but not Anne…

“Until yesterday.”

A screenshot of The Sharps channel is shown, slowly zooming in on a video titled “Anne’s Thirteenth Birthday!”

Casey: “This video came out yesterday . It’s the first anyone has heard of these girls since they went missing five months ago. The police haven’t released any statements, and all three girls are still in the missing person’s registry, so what in the world is this?

The video switches back to Casey, looking very excited. The first frame of Anne’s birthday video is taking up a quarter of the screen.

Casey: “I think this video was posted by Anne Boonchuy herself. I don’t know why, I don’t know where she’s been, and I don’t know where she is, but - no one knows what happened on Anne’s birthday. No one, except the girls themselves, and this video has footage of that day. Let’s break it down.

“Okay so the video starts with Anne telling us it’s her birthday, so this footage was taken five months ago. It’s immediately a departure from their usual strategy of posting videos taken the day of, or day before.”

The image changes to a screenshot of Anne and Sasha sitting on a bench.

Casey: “So the video continues with Anne and Sasha skipping school, which is something we knew happened. But some people theorized they spent the time planning to run away, and making the preparations. The video shows that, no, they actually spent the day just… having fun, with no warning signs of what was about to happen.”

The image changes to a screenshot of the golden frog box. Casey leans back in her chair and takes a deep breath.

Casey: “Then of course, we get to this. Sasha and Marcy convince Anne to steal a music box from a thrift store. Now, I checked, there was no theft filed in that area that day. This did actually happen though, I can assure that it wasn’t faked. I actually went to that store, and asked the owner about it. She told me that box had been in there for years, and everyone just seemed to ignore it, despite how expensive it was. Even the owner herself hadn’t realized it was missing.

The image changes to a screenshot of Anne opening the box, just before the screen completely whited out.

Casey: “This is the part everyone is talking about, and the part that has me stumped. In the video, Anne said that she would open the music box, and then go home. She said she was going to go home, so what happened?... Well, when she opens the box, the video becomes corrupted. We hear the girls scream… and then it ends. So, we still don’t really know.

“Someone had to post this video, and they had to have gotten a hold of Anne’s phone to do it. If you look closely, you can see Sasha and Marcy filming too, but no footage is used from their phones. This is Anne’s footage only, so, Anne, if you’re really the one who posted this, could you maybe… I don’t know, be less cryptic about it?

“If it wasn’t Anne who posted it… Then I guess we’ll just have to wait for more answers. Until next time Case Heads!”

Notes:

Thoughts on Casey? Using actual people aquicks me out, so I had to make an OC for this. I'd love to know what people think of her!

A Place That Shouldn’t Be Real

TheSharps

The video starts just like the last one, on Anne Boonchuy’s face. This time she is not in her room, in fact, it is hard to tell where she is because it is so dark. She has water and blood on her face, leaves in her hair, and a disturbed look on her face.

Anne: “H-hey, so, um, I have no idea where I am right now-” She takes a shaky breath , “But I’m kinda thinking that wherever I am isn’t LA… Okay, it’s definitely not LA.”

The camera turns around to show the mouth of a cave. It’s raining, but through the rain heavy, almost jungle-like foliage can be seen. Thunder claps, briefly illuminating a millipede as thick around as a drainpipe coiled around a large tree further back into the shadows.

Anne: “I- I honestly don’t think this is Earth .”

The camera flips back around to show Anne. She wipes blood and dirt off of her face.

Anne: “I think I’ve been here for like… I don’t know, a day?” She takes a shuddering breath , “Marcy gave me some weird music box, and when I opened it I ended up here. No idea how. I tried opening the box again but-”

The frame shakes as she sets the phone down in front of her. She grabs the music box from out of frame, and opens it. The inside is empty.

Anne: “No dice.” She sighs “I’m cold, I’m hungry, I hit my head on a rock earlier-” She rubs away more blood, which continues slowly trickling down her forehead “And I’ve missed my birthday party. I just- I just want to go home.” She pulls her knees up to her chest, her eyes shining with tears.

The scene transitions. The camera is once again facing out of the mouth of the cave, though now it’s sunny and not raining. The millipede is gone.

Anne: “Heyyy look at that! The rain cleared up! That’s something, I guess.”

The camera flips around. We can see Anne better now, she’s filthy, and has bags under her eyes.

Anne: “In other news, I got swarmed by giant spiders last night.” She sighs, dragging a hand down her face. “I know there are really big spiders called ‘bird eaters’ or whatever because they eat birds, but I swear these things were big enough to eat dogs. Like, they were so massive, I swear I thought I was gonna die.” She dry sobs, once. “I just stayed still until they left. I guess they wanted to get out of the rain too?”

She picks up the phone, standing up and ducking out of the cave. She starts to walk through the woods, still talking.

Anne: “Well, I’m like ninety percent sure that this isn’t Earth now.” she pushes a scraggly branch out of her face “Pretty sure the bugs on Earth are a lot smaller that- holy crap, look at that thing-”

The camera flips around, and lowers as Anne ducks into a bush. Beyond the bushes is a gigantic, red praying mantis. It’s as tall as a story and a half, with a gnarled armor-like exoskeleton.

Anne: “She what I mean??” She whispers .

The scene transitions again, the lighting makes it seem like morning. Anne is back in front of the cave.

Anne: “It’s day three of being stuck in bug-pocolypse alternate dimension.” She shudders, rolling her eyes. “I’ve been drinking out of a stream close by, so I’m not really thirsty… even if I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get sick one of these days. I am super hungry though. This is a survival how-to now, I’m gonna make some weapons to hunt for some food, maybe I’ll find a mammal, even”

The scene transitions to a montage. It seems Anne has set her phone against something so that she can film herself attempting to whittle a spear, and make rope out of vines. She struggles a lot, but ends up with something passable. Anne lays in the mud, holding her spear aloft.

Anne: “Well- that took- longer than I thought it would. See- see ya in the morning.” she says, wheezing from effort.

Another transition, this time to a night scene. Anne is barely visible in frame. She appears slightly out of breath, with her eyes blown wide.

Anne: “You- you guys will not believe what I saw!” She gets a giddy smile on her face “I was out setting traps with the rope I made earlier, and I heard voices! Like, actual voices! I thought, hey! I can ask whoever these people are for help! But when I got closer I saw that all the people were- they were frogs . Like, walking talking frog people . I still tried to go up to one, but he ran off screaming when he saw me.”

Anne: “I mean, I guess that’s fair.” she shrugs “It’s just nice to know that there’s actually civilization here! Alright, see you in the morning for real this time.”

The scene transitions. Anne can be seen in semi-shadow, with a background of what looks like carefully hewn stone bricks, and giant, luminescent green mushrooms. In a stark contrast to the rest of the video, she looks relatively content.

Anne: “So, I lied. It’s not morning, it’s actually evening. SOOO much happened today that I didn’t really have a chance to film anything. I’ll just tell you about it then, I guess.” she shrugs.

She falls back onto what looks like an actual mattress, the camera following her.

Anne: “So one of my traps caught something- a frog person , if you could believe it. But then ‘ol red the mantis came by, so I let him free. It turns out that I managed to catch a kid, and his name is Sprig.” She smiles. “Sprig brought me food , so he’s alright in my book. I mean, he also called me ugly, but I’m literally not sure if he’s ever seen a mammal before.”

She frowns, running a hand through her hair and dislodging a leaf.

Anne: “Of course then the local townspeople come and tie me up for being a monster. I didn’t even do anything! Sheesh.” She huffs “‘ol red the mantis showed up again though, and Sprig untied me so I could run away. I didn’t though, and we ended up tying up the mantis. Man, I’ve never felt such a rush! She giggles. ”So after all that, Sprig managed to get everyone to leave me alone. Unfortunately, I can’t leave the valley to look for my friends because of some ice in the mountains or whatever, so Sprig’s family is letting me stay in their basement for a while.”

Anne: “Oh, and they also told me what this place is called! It turns out I’m stuck in ‘Amphibia’.”

The video ends

Chapter Text

The channel was doing better than Anne could have ever imagined. The viewership had spiked dramatically when she’d posted the first video, sure, but it was nothing compared to how the channel had exploded after posting the second one.

Most of the comments were calling it ‘fake’ and ‘really good animation’ or even an ARG, but that was fine with Anne. Really, maybe it was better if everyone believed it wasn’t real. She was still supposed to be trying to stay low-key after all.

“Hey Anne, whatcha watching?”

Anne slammed her laptop closed on reflex, jumping as Sprig addressed her.

“Um… just some videos I took while we were in Amphibia,” She said, slowly opening her laptop again. She was just selecting clips for her next video, nothing incriminating.

…Yeah, she still hadn’t told her parents or the Plantar’s about the youtube channel. Her parents were only just starting to see her as responsible, and she really didn’t want to ruin that by telling them she was posting videos of Amphibia online.

“Oh, nice!” Sprig hopped down next to her on the couch, pressing into her side so he could see the screen better. Anne chuckled fondly, and angled the laptop for him.

“Look, these are some clips I took at the lake,” Anne clicked into a video of her and Sprig goofing around on a massive lilypad.

“I remember this! Man, that feels like it wasn’t that long ago, yet it also feels like it was forever ago, huh?” Sprig said.

“I get what you mean, buddy.” Anne nodded. It felt like she’d known Sprig all her life, but it had really just been a little over five months… it was hard to believe that someone had become such a big part of her life in so little time.

She threw an arm around his shoulders, pulling him closer into a side hug as she clicked into another clip.

“So why are you looking through these?”

“Uhhhh…”

A Rough Day At The Lake

TheSharps

The video starts in the same backdrop the last one ended in- stone bricks and green mushrooms. There’s more light in there now though, presumably it’s earlier in the day. Anne is once again, center screen.

Anne: “Update real quick- morning one in the Plantar household went not too bad. I do kinda think that Sprig’s little sister wants to kill me, but that’s just something I’ve gotta deal with.” She sighs “Um. The food wasn’t too bad I guess, Hop Pop- Sprig’s grandpa- made pancakes, but they had bugs in them. I’m starting to think that they don’t eat anything unless it has bugs in it.”

A young voice comes from offscreen .

Young Voice: “Anne! Are you almost ready?”

Anne: “Almost!” She calls back “Forgot to mention, Sprig and I are going to the lake today. Should be fun! Brrrp!”

She covers the camera with her hand as a transition. When the darkness fades, we can see Anne walking through the woods, holding the camera selfie style, it’s daytime and she’s wearing a one-piece swimsuit.

Anne: “Right so turns out, Hop Pop wouldn’t let us go to the lake, so we just snuck out.” She shrugs. Sprig speaks from off screen.

Sprig: “Yeah! It was so cool!”

The camera pans down, and we see the frog boy for the first time. He is just as Anne described, an anthropomorphic frog. He’s a bright pink color, wearing a green jacket and hat, with goggles resting on his forehead.

Sprig: “I’ve never snuck out before, so this is a first!”

Anne: “Yep! A lot of firsts for you today, huh buddy?”

Sprig: “Yeah! Is that thing really recording us?” He squints into the camera .

Anne: Turns the camera back to her face “ He’s never seen a phone before.”

The scene changes, and a montage of Sprig and Anne enjoying the lake begins. It looks like good fun, even if the alien environment is somewhat distracting. The music for the montage fades as a gigantic snake pops its head out of the water behind Sprig.

Sprig: “I was blinking, wasn’t I?” He turns around.

Both Anne and Sprig scream, before Anne drops her phone into the water and the video cuts out into static.

The static cuts to darkness for a second before we see Anne trying to steady the phone against something, before backing away comfortably into frame. She appears to be in a room of sorts, made of wood and very lived in. It’s easy to assume the room belongs to Sprig. Sprig himself can be seen swinging lightly in a hammock in the background, fast asleep.

Anne: “Uhhh, so that was a day,” she runs her hand through her hair. “I didn’t have a chance to film it in all the chaos but- Sprig and I were kinda attacked by a giant watersnake! This world just keeps finding new ways to freak me out. Seriously, how are any of the people here even alive when everything else just wants to kill them?”

She shakes her head, sighing, and slumping a little.

Anne: “Sprig kinda maybe got eaten a little bit- but he’s fine! He managed to escape the snake with some super hot peppers or something, so he’s fine. He saved both of our lives back there, after I endangered them.” her face falls a bit “I can’t believe I was so dumb not to listen to him when he said it was dangerous… Anyway, he was really tired after we got back, so he’s asleep.”

Sprig snores loudly in the background, croaking as he does so.

Anne: “So note to self, listen to the Plantars, they actually know what they’re talking about. Uh, I’m gonna leave it here for today. It’s been a lot and I feel like I need some rest too. Buh bye!”

The video ends.

Notes:

I really enjoy social media AUs, enough that it's somehow become the thing I wrote most, and the popular thing I write. On that note...

[shameless self promotion] I have other Amphibia fics that you may like! I have a crossover chatfic with the likes of Owl House, and I have another AU, this one is a Frog!Anne AU where the girls transform into Amphibians upon entering Amphibia. I'm super proud of both of these fics, so I'd love it if you would check them out!

Until next time, thank you for all of the support!

Chapter 5: My Update on the Anne Boonchuy Situation (Case by Case)

Summary:

Casey the True Crime Youtuber tm gives her thoughts on the current situation

Notes:

hey guys, I'm back! I was re-reading this fic this morning, and figured I should see if I couldn't write another chapter lol. I do still really love this idea.

Today's chapter is... a little short, honestly, but I think it works for what it is.

Enjoy!

My Update on the Anne Boonchuy Situation

Case by Case

The video opens with Casey in her usual set up. She has her hans clasped together in front of her mouth, and she appears deep in concentration, staring off screen.

Casey: “So. Everyone has been asking me for an update on my thoughts on the Anne Boonchuy situation, so, here you go…” She sighs, letting her hands fall, and facing the camera properly. “I’ll admit it guys… I’m stumped. I mean, at first I just covered this case because it was local, and interesting, and I thought the police had gotten it wrong- I thought the girls had been kidnapped or something not… whatever is actually going on here.

“For those who don’t know, two more videos have been uploaded to the missing girls’ account since I made my last video about this. These ones pick up where the last left off- in a… seemingly fantastical situation.”

Casey snaps her fingers, and a screenshot appears onscreen of that incredible jungle that was featured in the second of The Sharp’s new videos- specifically during the lightning strike during the rain, when the massive millipede is visible.

Casey: “By her own accounts, Anne claims to have found herself in another world- one inhabited by gigantic bugs, and anthropomorphic frog people, these videos and their content have been hailed as fake by most of the commenters, and several think it’s an elaborate ARG. Now, several ARG channels have already done videos about this, and why it doesn’t match up with what’s expected of an ARG in any capacity, and how if it is, no one has as of yet been able to uncover any puzzles or secrets hidden in it.”

The image on the screen changes to one of Anne and the Frog boy from the third video- both of them mid laugh as they walk to the lake. It appears to be a slideshow of screenshots, rather than being a static widget.

Casey: “In my humble opinion, if it is an ARG, it’s in extremely bad taste. The girls’ disappearance is not fake, I know that for fact, and if someone would use them like this, and hack into their channel just for a game… well, they’d be scum, but I don’t think that’s what’s going on here. Just like I said in my last video on this topic, I do think it’s Anne posting these videos herself. So then, what’s really going on here?

“Both deepfake experts and CGI experts have intensely analyzed these videos, and have found… nothing. Absolutely no evidence that any of these videos is fake in any way. The only editing to be found are the transitions between shots- and that’s not exactly enough to fake what we see. All of the actual footage appears to be… untouched.”

Casey gulps, looking genuinely disturbed. Even in her gory-er videos, she’s unfazed, but here she’s unsettled.

Casey: “I… I really don’t know what to make of it. It looks like what we see is what we get but… No one wants to get this. No one wants to think these girls had actually been taken to another world by a magic music box- i mean, it’s unthinkable, right? But… the more and more all these communities look for evidence that it’s fake, the more and more evidence they find that….

“This is real .”

She sighs, running a hand through her hair and taking a lazy spin on her gaming chair.

Casey: “I try to deal in facts, and fact based speculation, you all know this, so I’m afraid that for now? Until some evidence of deception comes out? I’m choosing to believe that Anne Boonchuy really was transported to this… Amphibia place.

“Doesn’t mean there isn’t still mystery for me to chase here though, and if anything, I think it might make things more exciting? We all know a lot about USA casework by now, so… spectating a magical adventure might be a nice change of pace!” She laughs dryly “The questions I’m asking right now are… where are Sasha and Marcy, and how exactly is Anne posting these videos? Did she somehow manage to return, or is she doing it through some other means? Means that the other girls obviously don’t have, if the lack of footage from them as of yet is any indication.

“Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait for the next video. Until next time, case heads!”

Notes:

Hello all! I hope you had fun with the update! I know I had fun writing it, so.

Back to Anne Vidos next chapter! Casey is fun, but writing POV outsider commentary on fake youtube videos that I wrote is... kinda hard? If you can believe it? This video of hers did have impact though! And we'll be seeing it soon, especially in the comments on Anne's coming episodes :)

Until next time!

Chapter 6: The Basement Flooded!

The Basement Flooded!

By The Sharps

The video starts on a shot of Anne’s face. She looks rather displeased. Behind her is a background we haven’t seen before. She appears to be sitting on an old couch, with a window behind showing a bright blue sky. Strangely, the window seems to be fitted to sticks.

Anne: “Okay so-” she sighs, running a hand through her hair. A leaf that was stuck there flutters away. “The basement, the room I was living in, got flooded. Not entirely sure how, but apparently it’s gonna take a while to fix, so until then…”

Sprig bursts into frame, apparently nearly knocking the phone from Anne’s hand.

Sprig: “She’s gonna be rooming with me!” He grins at the camera, showing off his teeth. Apparently, these frog people have teeth.

Anne: “Yes, that’s the plan,” She smiles, allowing room for him to sit next to her on the couch. “It should be fun, but I really hope Hop Pop fixes the leak sooner rather than later.” She sighs.

The scene transitions to a wide shot of what we know to be Sprig’s room. It’s well lived in, and a little messy. Anne’s futon is set up on the side opposite Sprig’s hammock.

Anne: “Room tour time! Uhhh, over here is where I’m gonna be sleeping,” Her arm drifts into frame, gesturing at her futon. “Sprig sleeps over there, in his cool little hammock, and here are his favorite dolls!”

Sprig: “Action figures!” He corrects from off screen.

Anne: “Right. Plus this is Sprig’s armoire where he keeps all of his slingshots!” Anne moves over to said armoire, opening it to reveal a rather impressive collection. “He’s got a whole thing going on here.”

Sprig: “I’ve been collecting them my whole life!”

Anne: “Yeah, he’s pretty good with them too! Well, there’s not much more to it, so… let’s hope this goes smoothly?”

The screen transitions to black. White text fades into view, it reads “Things did not go smoothly. Whoops.” The screen fades back in, showing Anne’s face in the dark. She appears stressed.

Anne: “So!” She grins. It’s a fake smile. “The roommate thing didn’t really work out. I love Sprig, I really, really do, but he’s… sort of hard to live with, so I’m gonna try and fix the leak myself! The only problem…”

The camera flips around, showing a dark wooden stairwell leading into a murky expanse of water. Due to the low light, no estimate of depth or breadth can be made.

Anne: “Yeah. How am I going to fix this?” She hums a little to herself. “Well, it can’t be any worse than the watersnake from the other day, I might as well just jump in, right?”

The scene transitions again, this time to that same expanse of water from a different angle, showing a truly terrifying eel creature with many teeth poking its head out of the water. It roars, and dips back into the inky blackness. The camera flips around, showing Anne. Her face is pallid. She is joined by two frogs, one of them is Sprig, the other is an old frog with orange skin, and an irate expression on his face.

Anne: “So, that’s what is called a ‘river lamprey’ apparently,” She shudders. “Fixing the leak didn’t go as planned. Sprig came down to join me, and then Hop Pop came down to get both of us,” She sighs, indicating the older frog.

Hop Pop: “If you two hadn’t been so reckless,” He shakes his head.

Sprig: “The leak still isn’t fixed, so Anne is just gonna sleep on the couch in the living room.”

Anne: “It’s better than nothing,” She shakes her head, and several leaves fall away. “I’d still like to return to my own room as soon as possible though.”

Hop Pop: “Eh,” He scratches the side of his head. “I’ll get around to it.”

Anne tolls her eyes, shaking her head while Sprig giggles. The scene transitions, and we are now looking down at Anne's face while she lays on the couch. She appears very unimpressed. She tilts the camera to the side, and we can see large amounts of water seeping up through the floorboards next to her.

Anne: “The leak isn’t fixed, if you can’t tell,” She looks like she’s holding back a smile. “Come morning Hop Pop is gonna realize he can’t use the kitchen, and then he WILL fix the leak. Only a matter of time, now!”

The scene transitions, and we see Anne’s old basement bedroom. It is no longer flooded, though it does look rather wet. The camera pans around, showing the damage, but with heart emojis edited onto the scene.

Anne: “Success! Ah, I’m never taking this space for granted again. Never have I been more grateful to have grown up with a second story bedroom!”

The camera flips around, and we can see Anne’s face. She’s grinning, and she might actually have tears in her eyes.

Anne: “I guess that’s probably all for this video, since the leak was finally fixed. Never a dull day here, really,” She sighs. “Honestly I can’t wait for the next wacky adventure to happen. You better believe I’ll be filming it too, since when I get home I can’t imagine anyone would believe any of this if I didn’t,” She shakes her head, laughing. “Until then I guess, buh bye!”

The video fades to black, and ends.
