Work Text:
On the night of June 19, the eve of the Summer Solstice Celebration, Phoebe and Damien clasped hands and descended amidst the darkness into the catacombs. As their steps plunged them into the abyss, Phoebe reached out to steady herself and swiftly withdrew her hand from the icy cold, fungus ridden, and damp stone wall. Her only comfort was the steady breathing of Damien, who was leading her with each step closer to the skulls and bones of the dead. As she neared the bottom of the steps and her heels echoed throughout the tomb, her heart quickened. Descending the last step, Damien flicked on his flashlight, barely helping illuminate the room. Phoebe and Damien entered slowly. They roamed through the catacombs for what felt like entirely too long to Phoebe. They were surrounded by mountains of bones, and Phoebe started sweating though the tunnels were chilly and damp. As it gradually grew darker around them, Damien and Phoebe both figured they must have taken a wrong turn somewhere. Suddenly the flashlight started to flicker before extinguishing entirely, plunging them into complete darkness. Stranded, the couple was doomed to join the millions of other bodies resting in the catacombs.
