Work Text:

Item #: SCP-1717

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: When SCP-1717 is able to be obtained by the foundation, it is to be placed in a standard anomalous object containment room, and it is to be watched at every hour by foundation personnel through the security cameras in its room. Any odd behavior or changes in the object are to be reported to the proper authorities. The room is to be guarded by at least two guards at all times. More research must be done to understand the anomalous effects of SCP-1717, and to understand how to combat them to prevent it from escaping from its containment again. Only personnel with the security clearance level of 3 or higher are to be informed of its trigger words, and tests where the trigger phrase is to be used are strictly prohibited.

SCP-1717 is currently not contained by the foundation as of ██/██/████ [see Event Log-1717-02]. Its whereabouts are unknown. It is of utmost importance to reacquire SCP-1717 as soon as possible, as it is poorly understood and hostile. This is the fourth time SCP-1717 has escaped containment. See Experiment Log-1717-01, Experiment Log-1717-02, and Event Log-1717-01 for more details on previous escapes.

Description: SCP-1717 takes on two forms, an inactive form as well as an active form. In its inactive form, SCP-1717 will take on the appearance of a candelabra made of an unidentifiable black material, approximately 9.5” in height. It has a center stick with two curved arms coming off either side of it, with candle holders at the end of all three sticks. The candle holders contain LED lights resembling the flames of a candle, which glow a purple color when the candelabra’s switch is flipped to “on”. The switch is located at the bottom of the base of SCP-1717’s dormant form, and it is off by default. SCP-1717 is observed to always be in its inactive form unless triggered to be in its active form. This inactive form is incapable of movement, speech or any form of communication, and appears to be just a regular candelabra that shows no signs of life. However, DNA testing shows that the candelabra is composed mostly of human DNA. Occasionally, the bulbs of the lights have been observed to turn on without anyone flipping the switch, and they will stay on for a seemingly random amount of time before turning off again. It can be contained in this dormant form, however multiple, poorly understood factors will cause it to teleport to a different, far away location.

SCP-1717’s active form takes on the appearance of a pale white humanoid, approximately 1.9 meters in height. SCP-1717 has long, black hair, and its left eye is covered by a mask. Analysis of SCP-1717’s face shows that the part of the face that is underneath the mask is rotted and decayed. SCP-1717 has only ever been seen in one outfit, a pale blue dress shirt with a purple, cropped overcoat and black pants. Parts of SCP-1717’s body appear translucent, and it is capable of walking through walls seemingly at will. Its body and limbs have the ability to contort to be longer and to bend in ways a normal human being is incapable of, distorting itself to onlookers. It appears to do this mostly when agitated. SCP-1717 is incapable of speech, as its mouth is stitched shut from an unknown cause.

The active form of SCP-1717 is triggered by saying the name “Cyrillo ██████████”. Upon saying that name, SCP-1717 will seemingly emerge from its dormant candelabra form, which is now switched to on after the name is said, taking the dormant form with it and teleporting to the location of whoever said the name, henceforth referred to as “the victim”. SCP-1717 will then proceed to hold the candelabra out towards the victim while staring at them with an expressionless face, freezing the victim in place until the victim collapses and dies from an unknown cause. There has only been one case that did not result in the death of the victim (see Experiment Log 1717-01). Once the victim is dead, SCP-1717 will exit the vicinity, walking through walls if it has to and killing anyone who tries to stop it in a similar fashion to the victim. No matter what, it refuses containment from the foundation, and has mostly refused any attempt at communication. SCP-1717 will not respond to its name being said by any anomalous entity, for unknown reasons.

SCP-1717 has once entered its active form without any prompting from foundation personnel. See Event Log 1717-01 for more information.

Addendum-1717-A: SCP-1717 has been noted to be directly connected to the other 15 SCPs held at Site-20, as well as the researchers ████ Yabusame, ██████ Ignacio, and █████ Harmonia. It was reportedly a part of the “killing game” that this group of researchers and anomalous entities remember happening. According to the testimonies of the researchers, SCP-1717 was the one behind the event (see interview log-1717-01). This “killing game” did not ever actually occur in reality, but as these researchers and SCPs all have memories of it, further research must be done to figure out the connection and cause.

Interview Log-1717-01, ██/██/████

Interviewed: Researcher █████ Harmonia

Interviewer: Doctor ███ Hawthorne

Researcher and Scientist █████ Harmonia was asked by Dr. Hawthorne to do an interview about the false memories he had of the aforementioned killing game, including being asked about certain SCPs that were involved in it. Most notably, SCP-1717. This interview took place before the acquisition or discovery of SCP-1717.

<Begin Log>

Dr. Hawthorne: Hello, Dr. Harmonia. How are you doing?

Dr. Harmonia: … I’m fine. But let’s skip the pleasantries. It’s best to get straight to the interview for these logs.

Dr. Hawthorne: Very well, then. I am going to ask you about your memories of this killing game, as well as some of the people involved. Understood?

Dr. Harmonia: Understood.

Dr. Hawthorne: For the sake of clarity for anyone else reading these logs, I’m going to have you explain what exactly this killing game was.

Dr. Harmonia: The killing game was… It was essentially a game where I and about nineteen other people were put into a building and forced… to kill each other in order to be freed. The one who masterminded the whole thing was masquerading among the rest of us, pretending to… well, he was a victim. Just not a victim of the game.

Dr. Hawthorne: Thank you, █████. And you’re aware that this killing game did not actually occur, and that your memories are false?

Dr. Harmonia: … Yes, I am. Though the other participants might not- Or, well, the SCPs who also have these false memories seem to fully believe it happened- except Maria.

Dr. Hawthorne: Yes, they all seem fairly adamant on that fact and are unable to be convinced otherwise. Can you tell me about these SCPs as they appeared in your memories?

Dr. Harmonia: Well… In my memories, they appeared to be regular people like you and I, with no anomalous effects whatsoever… Well, besides Zoro- or, I mean, SCP-1713. Dr. Ignacio also had anomalous fire powers in my memories… which he certainly doesn’t now.

Dr. Hawthorne: Yes, his anomalous effect in all of your memories despite him having no anomalous effect in reality is quite intriguing… Though it is likely due to your false memories. Now, you mentioned someone being behind the killing game. Do you know who that was?

Dr. Harmonia: [Dr. Harmonia pauses for a while and shifts, noticeably uncomfortable.] C-Cyrillo, well… she was… Cyrillo was the mastermind behind the game. W-We were, uh… Do I have to talk about this?

Dr. Hawthorne: It would be best for the foundation if you were to disclose this information to us, yes.

Dr. Harmonia: R-Right… Well, me and Cyrillo were very… close. I- Well, we knew each other before the game, as well. He… He erased my memories and put me in the killing game once… once I found out what he was doing.

Dr. Hawthorne: You said you knew him before the killing game?

Dr. Harmonia: … Yes, we were- Well, that part isn’t important. We were also friends with someone else named Pearl, another victim of the game.

Dr. Hawthorne: Do you know if these memories are false as well?

Dr Harmonia: I… I’m unsure. Neither Cyrillo nor Pearl were anomalous in my memories- It… It gets a little confusing to try to figure out in my head, in all honesty.

Dr. Hawthorne: Understandable, we’ll have to look into your memories more after this interview. Do you have any idea what the whereabouts of this “Cyrillo” person are?

Dr. Harmonia: N-No, the last I saw him I was- I was watching her… H-He…

Dr. Hawthorne: Are you alright, Dr. Harmonia?

Dr. Harmonia: [Dr. Harmonia takes a moment to collect himself.] … Yes, I apologize. The last time I saw Cyrillo was in my false memories. He… He took her own life during the events of the game.

Dr. Hawthorne: Very well, then. Those are all the questions I have for you. You are free to go. Thank you for your time, Doctor.

<End Log>

Dr. Hawthorne took the information learned from this interview to the foundation higher ups, where it was then decided the best course of action would be to ask SCP-1701 about the whereabouts of this supposed “mastermind”.

Discovery log, ██/██/████

After the potential existence of SCP-1717 was brought to foundation attention, SCP-1701 was asked of its existence and whereabouts. SCP-1701 confirmed the existence of SCP-1717, though seemed reluctant to give any information on its location. This was the first time SCP-1701 hesitated on giving foundation personnel information on the location of an anomalous entity it was formerly involved with. With some further prodding by personnel, SCP-1701 informed the foundation that SCP-1717 was located in ████████████, █████. SCP-1717 was found in its dormant form in the exact location given by SCP-1701, and it was easily contained and put in a standard anomalous object containment cell. At this time, researchers were unaware of its active form.

Experiment Log-1717-01, ██/██/████

Shortly after the acquisition of SCP-1717, SCP-1701 was interviewed for further information by Dr. Hawthorne. The conversation is prescribed here.

<Begin Log>

Dr. Hawthorne: Hello, SCP-1701. Have you been faring well?

SCP-1701: Quite well, doctor! And please, call me Maria.

Dr. Hawthorne: You know I can’t do that, SCP-1701. I must comply with foundation protocol.

SCP-1701: … right, though it’s a little dehumanizing… Anyways, how have you been, Dr. Hawthorne?

Dr. Hawthorne: [The doctor clears his throat]. I’ve been fine, I suppose. But I’m here to ask you some questions about some of your peers.

SCP-1701: Ask away, doctor! What do you need to know?

Dr. Hawthorne: The subject of concern in this interview is SCP-1717- Cyrillo, as you know it.

SCP-1701: ah yes… Cyrillo…

Dr. Hawthorne: As of acquiring SCP-1717, it has shown little anomalous effects besides its human DNA and ability to turn its lights on without any outside force. Furthermore, it blatantly stands out against what information we know. You were, supposedly, all normal humans in your false memories, and all acquired SCPs connected to these false memories have been humanoid in some way. Do you know anything about this?

SCP-1701: Well, Cyrillo does have a humanoid form… you just have to know how to trigger it.

Dr. Hawthorne: An alternate form? Do you know how to trigger it?

SCP-1701: Oh, doctor, I wouldn’t recommend it! The effects can be… disastrous…

Dr. Hawthorne: This is necessary information for the foundation, SCP-1701. We must understand the entities we contain here.

SCP-1701: Right, well… [SCP-1701 pauses for a minute, before its voice drops into a whisper]. His full name is… Cyrillo ██████████. I really wouldn’t recommend you say it, doctor.

<End Log>

SCP-1701 refused to divulge any further information on SCP-1717, and would not go into specifics on what would occur when saying the full name it provided. As there was no more information to gain, the interview was terminated.

The researchers working at site-20 requested to do a test to figure out what this supposed alternate form was, in order to gather more information on the anomalous effects of SCP-1717. The test was approved on ██/██/████. A controlled, highly guarded and monitored testing room was set up, with SCP-1717 placed in the center. A test subject (D-85123) was placed in the room with the object, and was told to say the name “Cyrillo ██████████”. Upon saying the name, the active form of SCP-1717 emerged and killed D-85123. Guards rushed in to subdue the anomalous entity, but they were killed in a similar fashion. Once everyone in the room with it had been killed, SCP-1717 picked up its inactive candelabra form and fled foundation grounds by walking through the walls. Any further attempts to subdue or harm it failed, as bullets would pass through it, and any attempt to harm it followed by the death of the personnel attempting to attack it. SCP-1717 was unable to be located again until ██/██/████, where its inactive form was found in ████████████, █████.

Experiment Log-1717-02, ██/██/████

Shortly after the reacquisition of SCP-1717, Doctor ███ Hawthorne requested to run a test that involved summoning its active form under specific circumstances. This request was approved by the Overseer Council on ██/██/████. The details of the test was to put Researcher █████ Harmonia and SCP-1717 into a room together, and have Researcher Harmonia say the trigger name. Since the two were reportedly close in their false memories, there was a possibility that information about this SCP and the “killing game” could be retrieved from the encounter. Researcher Harmonia seemed nervous about the test when asked, but quickly agreed to it nonetheless. He attempted to back out once he was in the room with SCP-1717’s inactive form, but he was informed by the foundation personnel watching the test that he must continue. Upon saying the name “Cyrillo ██████████”, SCP-1717 entered its active form. The events of the experiment captured on security footage are logged below.

<Begin Log>

[SCP-1717 enters its active form once the name is said. Upon seeing Researcher Harmonia, the SCP appears startled and confused, showing signs of distress.]

Dr. Harmonia: … C-Cyrillo? I-I…

[Researcher Harmonia begins to hyperventilate. SCP-1717 attempts to approach him, and Researcher Harmonia moves away.]

Dr. Harmonia: I-I’m sorry- it’s just- Y-You just- I… I thought I would be ready- [inaudible].

[Researcher Harmonia continues to make inaudible and incomprehensible vocalizations towards SCP-1717. Whether or not SCP-1717 could understand him is unclear, though it had an expression comparable to guilt.]

Dr. Harmonia: G-God, I’m supposed to… to interview you- How am I even supposed to- to look you in the eyes-?

[SCP-1717 attempts to reach out to touch Dr. Harmonia’s face, but hesitates and decides against it. After approximately 1.3 seconds of looking at the researcher, SCP-1717 turns around and picks up its candelabra, walking towards one of the walls of the testing chamber.]

Dr. Harmonia: W-Wait, Cyrillo-!

[Dr. Harmonia reaches out towards SCP-1717. SCP-1717 glances over its shoulder, and then exits through the wall. Researcher Harmonia collapses to his knees, and is escorted out by foundation personnel shortly after.]

<End Log>

This test proved to be insightful in the behaviors of SCP-1717. This test shows that SCP-1717 has some form of emotional intelligence, SCP-1717 is capable of other actions besides killing, and seems to understand spoken words as well as have unique responses to certain situations. Due to this test, SCP-1717 was lost again, and tests where its active form is to be triggered were made strictly prohibited for the foreseeable future, until it is better understood and measures can be taken to prevent its escape. SCP-1717 was re-contained on ██/██/████. Further questioning was issued to Researcher Harmonia, but he was reluctant to answer and did not provide any new information.

Event Log-1717-01, ██/██/████

On ██/██/████, SCP-1704, referred to with the name “Wimessir” by Maria, was located and contained by the foundation with no issues. Once SCP-1704 was placed in a standard humanoid anomalous containment room, SCP-1717 started to have a physical reaction despite having no way of knowing about the presence of SCP-1704, and still being in its inactive form. The event, captured on foundation cameras, is logged below.

<Begin Log>

[The lights on SCP-1717’s inactive form turn on suddenly, with no prompting from personnel. As this is a common occurrence, foundation staff are not alerted.]

[The lights and cameras in SCP-1717’s containment room suddenly fail for approximately 5.9 seconds, with cameras being overtaken by static. After the elapsed time, everything is operational again, and SCP-1717 is missing from its containment chamber.]

[Cameras show SCP-1717 has somehow transported itself into SCP-1704’s room despite the guards stationed outside. SCP-1704 is seen conversing with SCP-1717 in a peaceful manner, both entities being incredibly at ease.]

SCP-1704: Oh, Cyrillo! It’s been far too long, mon ami! Maybe you can help me get out of this horrendous place? Do you know where we are?

[SCP-1717 nods its head at SCP-1704’s questions.]

SCP-1704: Oh, thank god! I was… well, it felt all too familiar to the killing game, is all… B-But it’s fine, since you can get us out of this place!

[SCP-1717 continues to stare at SCP-1704, to which SCP-1704 suddenly appears shocked.]

SCP-1704: Y-Your mouth…? Who-

[Guards then entered the room in order to stop the containment breach, and upon their entrance SCP-1717 immediately vanished from the room.]

SCP-1704: Wait! I didn’t even get the chance to…

<End Log>

This event is so far the only time SCP-1717 has triggered its active form without use of the trigger name. Along with that, this was the only time there were no casualties along with its escape. This event brought to foundation awareness that SCP-1717 can be triggered by unknown variables, which makes it even more dangerous. SCP-1701 was interrogated about this, but it claimed to have no knowledge of any other ways to trigger the active form of SCP-1717. SCP-1704 was also interrogated, but only had positive things to say about SCP-1717, and seemed completely unaware of its “mastermind” status. SCP-1717 was reacquired on ██/██/████.

Event Log-1717-02, ██/██/████

On ██/██/████, SCP-1716 was acquired and contained by the foundation. SCP-1717 seemingly had a reaction to this as soon as SCP-1716 was on foundation grounds. The events were caught on security cameras and are logged below.

<Begin Log>

[The lights on SCP-1717’s inactive form turn on suddenly.]

[Approximately 10.8 seconds after the lights on SCP-1717 lit up, the entity begins to shake. The technology around its containment chamber begins to fail, the lights in its containment chamber turn off and the security cameras monitoring the cell begin to fail, glitches and static appearing on the screen. The personnel monitoring SCP-1717 and the guards stationed outside its cell are unable to communicate, as radios are failing as well and are only playing a high pitched ringing.]

[SCP-1717 falls over from shaking, and its active form is visible flickering in and out of visibility on the security cameras. Guards try to get in, but the doors are stuck shut.]

[All the personnel watching through cameras and all the guards stationed outside the chamber collapse to the ground suddenly, and SCP-1717 disappears. These personnel and guards are later confirmed to be dead.]

<End Log>

As of this time, SCP-1717 has not been recovered, and its location remains a mystery.

A note

Hello. This is Cyrus Harmonia. I’m leaving this note in this file on the off chance someone actually finds it. They never do, in typical foundation fashion. By the time this is discovered, I will have accomplished my goal.

SCP-1717 is named Cyrillo, though you could already gather that. Before the killing game, we were lovers. During the game, we were close. Even now, I find myself caring for him, even after everything she’s done. But none of that was actually real, was it? It was all just some Mandela effect. I know that, yet I still can’t let him go.

I’m going to find Cyrillo, and I’m going to destroy her. If there’s anything I know about Cyrillo, it's that all he desires is rest. She doesn't want to be saved.

… It's the only way I know how to help him.

-Cyrus Harmonia

That's all, folks! I have a few other danganmon fics I never posted... Mostly cy-fi. maybe one day! comments and kudos are appreciated mwa mwa
