‘Darlinggggg, can I come in yet?’
‘Ah, just a second!’ You shouted through the doorway, struggling with the zip on your clothes.
‘Okay!’ A cheery voice called out to you, followed by the muffled sound of his foot tapping against the floor impatiently.
No more than five seconds had passed before you heard the door handle click as it turned, the door swinging on its hinges behind you. Asmo stepped into the room excitedly, courteously closing it behind him when he noticed your state of undress. You turned towards the intrusion, irritated.
‘Hey, I said I wasn’t ready yet,’ you frowned, dropping your hands from your zip in defeat.
‘Hehe, I know, but you told me to give you a second, so I did!’ Asmo grinned, walking towards you.
‘Well, since you’re in here, please help me with my zip.’ You sighed, turning away from him. It wasn’t a question.
‘Of COURSE, Darling, let me see…’
You felt Asmo’s cool fingers brush against your bare skin, a tingly trail of goosebumps travelling across the path he’d created as he tugged on the zip, adjusting your outfit when he’d gotten you fully zipped up. He planted his hands on your shoulders and spun you around so you were face to face with him, an excited smile colouring his cheeks.
‘You look stunning, Hon. Almost as cute as me!’
‘Thanks,’ you giggled, rolling your eyes. ‘I just need to do my makeup and I’ll be ready to go.’
‘Ooh, ooh! Let me! Please!
‘Well, okay,’ you nodded. ‘It is your birthday, I suppose.’
‘Hehe, wonderful! Follow me!’ He beamed, grabbing your hand and pulling him along with him as he raced to the door.
Asmo’s hand was warm and velvety soft, his fingers gripping you tightly through the dimly lit hallway. You were thankful that nobody else was around, either in their rooms getting ready or already gone, so your outfit that you’d spent so much time deliberating over would stay a secret until you stepped into the party venue.
The fresh, floral scent of Asmo’s room tickled the back of your nose as you entered, hand in hand with him. He pulled you along to his makeup chair, pushing on your shoulders to force you into the seat, before rummaging through his drawers and boxes for the right colours to complement your skin tone and your outfit.
You chatted comfortably with him while his nimble fingers worked your face, applying foundation and concealer and blush and highlight, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, all the things that would make your features pop expertly. His eye for colour and details was unmatched, and once he’d finished, you felt priceless, sparkling brightly like the sequins on your special birthday outfit.
Standing up, you fixed your hair into a style radiating elegance, spinning around when you’d finished to show Asmo every angle of your perfectly put-together ensemble. He clapped his hands excitedly, grabbing you by the wrists to twirl around his room with you, the smile on his face so wide that it could put the sun to shame. You giggled with him, delighted to feel so pretty under his adoring gaze, until you collapsed on his bed, head spinning.
‘Come on, Beautiful, it’s time to go!’ Asmo exclaimed as he brushed the invisible blemishes from his shirt.
‘Alright, but there’s just one thing I have to give you before we head out,’ you grinned, mirroring the way he grabbed you by the hand and pulled you to his room earlier.
When you’d reached your bedroom door, you stopped. Taking his hands, you covered his eyes with them and disappeared inside, grabbing what you needed and swiftly exiting the room. You pinned the item to his jacket pocket, straightening it up before you gave him the okay to open his eyes. He looked down at the object you’d attached to his clothes, excited to receive a surprise from you.
‘There, now we match!’ You beamed at Asmo, pointing to the identical brooch attached to your own chest.
It was a set of matching sparkly pink cupcakes, glittering against the flickering candlelight of the hallway. Asmo brushed his finger over the rhinestones delicately, enjoying the rough texture beneath his skin, another sunshine smile covering his face with its ambient glow.
‘Thank you so much, Hon,’ he whispered, touched. ‘I’m so happy to be matching with you!’
‘Hehe, me too,’ you chuckled bashfully. ‘Now let’s go already, I’m sure everyone is waiting for us by now.’
‘Right!’ Asmo grabbed your hand again, entwining his fingers with yours as he began to walk towards the stairs.
The walk to the party venue was short, and, thanks to the season, warm enough to have forgone a jacket. You were glad for this, since your outfit included more bare skin than you were used to. With Asmo at your side and your complete party look, you felt so important, like a shimmering disco ball in the centre of the stage. Indeed, every other guest seemed to feel the same way, and you felt their eyes on you for almost the entire night - the only brief respite being when you’d stepped out for a quick drink and breather on the balcony.
All the other brothers made their jealousy towards Asmo known immediately, of course. Mammon’s voice rising in volume and pitch at the sight of your matching brooches, Lucifer’s annoyance as he clipped his little brother sharply on the back of his head, disturbing his mop of shaggy white hair. The twins’ reluctance to stray from their corner of the room, Beel’s plate piled high with party food, an exhausted Belphie leaning his head on his twin’s shoulder. Even Satan had something to say, but it came out in the form of anger directed at Lucifer.
You laughed at their antics heartily, ignoring, just for once, their selfish desires to have you alone. It was Asmo’s birthday, and you were making sure that for once, he would have you all to himself, all night. You danced with him until the hours on the clock were in the single digits, the food had long since been polished off and most of the guests had left. When the party became too sparsely attended for you to justify staying any longer, you walked back to the house, hand in hand with Asmo, and didn’t leave his room until long after the brothers had been pounding at his door, demanding for him to release you.
