Work Text:

“Kim Dokja. What is this.”

Yoo Joonghyuk was seated on the couch in his and Kim Dokja’s shared apartment, phone in hand, his video game paused.

“Well, we’re both finally 19, and it has come to my attention that we’ve never  drank before.”

Yoo Joonghyuk frowned.

“And?”

“Don’t you think that’s a waste of our youth? It’s a perfect night to drink too!”

“How exactly do you determine that?”

“If you don’t want to, I’ll just get drunk with Sooyoung instead.”

Kim Dokja plopped down beside Yoo Joonghyuk, pouting as he absentmindedly dropping a plastic bag filled with cans of beer on the  small rectangular table in front of them.

“This is a bad idea.”

Yoo Joonghyuk muttered, although he switched off his phone, taking out a can of beer.

“And yet.”

Kim Dokja smiled contentedly, a knowing gleam refusing to leave his eyes. Despite what Yoo Joonghyuk said, Kim Dokja knew he would always come around. He picked up his own can, as his eyes drifted elsewhere. The apartment was spotless as usual, thanks to the taller man.

“Joonghyuk-ah, you really should take a break, you know?”

A sigh.

“If I did, the apartment would be in ruins.”

“Fair point.”

Yoo Joonghyuk brought the can to his mouth, before taking a sip from it. Kim Dokja mocked him, except he took a bigger gulp, before nearly spitting it out. Yoo Joonghyuk fought back a smirk as he watched the other, Kim Dokja cringing at the taste.

“It’s bitter..”

Yoo Joonghyuk nodded as he looked down at the liquid in the can through the small opening.

“Do you still want to keep drinking?”

A flicker of hesitation entered Kim Dokja’s expression, before a look of determination appeared.

“Yeah. I wanna do this.”

Yoo Joonghyuk sighed, as Kim Dokja took an even bigger slug of the drink.

“So, Yoo Joonghyuk.”

Kim Dokja tilted his head back, resting it on the wall behind them. There was nothing much to talk about, and there was something about the aura in the room which made Kim Dokja feel more sentimental.

“Why are you friends with me?”

Because I like you.

“Why not?”

Kim Dokja rolled his eyes, as he trailed his thumb up and down the can, feeling the wet, cold water droplets which had condensed on the can.

“That’s not a real answer.”

“Well, how would you like me to answer?”

“I don’t know. I’m just trying to make conversation, bastard..”

Kim Dokja took another chug, downing the rest of the beer in the can, carelessly throwing it away before picking up another can.

“Don’t drink too much.”

——

“It’s not fair..! Why do you get all the girls?”

Kim Dokja groaned, as he wrapped his arms around his legs, resting his chin on his knees. It had been around an hour since they had started drinking, and Kim Dokja was completely and utterly wasted to say the least. His face was flushed, and he had been letting out hiccups here and there.

There were discarded cans of beer on the table, a few tiny puddles of the liquid on said table.

Yoo Joonghyuk was slightly drunk as well, his nose tinted with red, feeling somewhat dizzy.

“It’s not like I want them anyways.”

Kim Dokja frowned, as he gazed at the table. Huh. It seemed as if the number of cans had multiplied.

“Then who do you want?”

Yoo Joonghyuk dipped his head back, resting on the cushiony top of the couch. Who he wanted. That was easy. He wanted a certain boy- no, a man now, who is pretty intelligent, although he underestimates himself constantly. This man is willing to go to any extent to help his loved ones, one of the qualities which attracted Yoo Joonghyuk. He loves to read, so much that Yoo Joonghyuk is afraid he might end up confusing fiction with reality.

“Who I like is none of your concern.”

A groan.

“What if I tell you who I like?”

“What are we, 5?”

Yoo Joonghyuk asked, scoffing as he lifted his head. However, there was something about the eagerness in Kim Dokja’s eyes which caused him to rethink his words. A mumbled ‘fine’ was heard, and the shorter man’s eyes lit up.

“Well.. I’ve liked this person for a few years now. But I gave up on that bastard liking me back last year when he got into a relationship. Of course they’ve already broken up, but..”

Kim Dokja lazily picked up another can of alcohol, and brought it to his lips. There was something comforting about the cool steel rim against his skin.

The thought of Kim Dokja liking someone, it gave Yoo Joonghyuk a certain unknown feeling. One he disliked. He had never felt it before. Maybe it was the liquor, or the way Kim Dokja looked so joyful when he spoke of this crush, but Yoo Joonghyuk started speaking.

“And how much do you like this person?”

A soft chuckle escaped Kim Dokja’s lips.

“I would do anything for them.”

Yoo Joonghyuk’s frown deepened, and a scowl formed on his face.

“And what if somebody else wants you?”

Kim Dokja huffed at that statement as if it was the stupidest sentence ever uttered. He gently shook the can he was holding.

“I would reject them, obviously.”

Yoo Joonghyuk leaned in closer to Kim Dokja, such that their faces were centimetres apart.

“Even if that person was me?”

Kim Dokja’s eyes widened, as his face turned a brighter shade of red, on top of the flush he already had.

“I..-“

Kim Dokja kept silent, as his eyes fixated on the other man’s lips. Those lips which were so close, so full. Those corners of the lips which had had curved up into a smirk.

When Kim Dokja finally spoke, it was a bundle of incoherent sounds and syllables. Yoo Joonghyuk moved closer, until their foreheads were brushing against each other.

“Hm?”

“Well, that w- that wouldn’t be possible.”

the glimmer from Yoo Joonghyuk’s eyes disappeared. A replacement of rage appeared. He moved away from the man, and picked up the alcohol, taking another chug.

What exactly did that other person have that Yoo Joonghyuk did not? Why was it that Kim Dokja didn’t like him? Yoo Joonghyuk gripped the can harder.

“Because the person is you.”

It was a sentence muttered quietly, but it hadn’t escaped Yoo Joonghyuk’s ears. Perhaps a persons hearing was enhanced when you were drunk. His head swivelled to the direction of the other male, just in time to catch Kim Dokja gazing at him as well.

An unusual laugh was let out from Yoo Joonghyuk’s lips. Kim Dokja listened to his laughter, soon joining in. He had no idea what this joy was for, by he was all for it.

“Kim Dokja. You.. you like me?”

Yoo Joonghyuk asked, upon recovering from his odd burst of laughter. He had picked up a new can of alcohol, and downed it in one gulp.

“I.. I do.”

Kim Dokja replied joyfully, still dazed from the session of chuckling.

In one move, Yoo Joonghyuk moved his hand behind Kim Dokja’s head, running his hair through the back of the other man’s hair, as he moved his lips closer Kim Dokja’s.

Kim Dokja felt the warm breath of Yoo Joonghyuk’s resting on his face. It was weird. He had often dreamt of this moment happening. In all of the scenarios, he had been either embarrassed or screaming. But he felt an odd calmness and preparedness.

Without registering it, Yoo Joonghyuk had his lips on Kim Dokja’s, a hitch of the breath when Kim Dokja realised. His eyes fluttered to a close, as he allowed the kiss to deepen.

The kiss ended too soon, and left Kim Dokja yearning for more. Perhaps it was the fact that he was drunk, or the way Yoo Joonghyuk seemed to be seen in a new light after his own abrupt confession, but Kim Dokja kissed him again. And again. And again.

Yoo Joonghyuk couldn’t help but smile, smile at his own stupidity. He thought of the way he had gotten jealous over the fact Kim Dokja had liked someone else. Someone who was him.

“But.. do you like me back?”

Kim Dokja looked at Yoo Joonghyuk, worry suddenly clouding his vision.

“God, yes. Yes, I like you back, Dokja-ya.”

As if to prove it, Yoo Joonghyuk gently pressed his forehead against Kim Dokja’s, and caressed his cheek with one hand. Kim Dokja’s mind went blank at this moment, his head filled with sweet nothingness. All he could think of was the man in front of him.

The shorter man was about to say something, when the door slammed open.

“Yo, Dokja-“

A lady in a purple sweater had opened the door. She stopped dead in her tracks upon seeing the two men, her jaw quite literally on the floor.

“Did I interrupt something? Because i can come back later-“

“No, no. What do you need?”

Kim Dokja leaped away from Yoo Joonghyuk, almost falling. He stumbled towards Han Sooyoung, a stupid grin on his face.

“Are you drunk?”

Han Sooyoung asked, observing his flushed cheeks. She looked past Kim Dokja, and widened her eyes at the countless obviously empty liquor cans lying on the table.

“What? Of course not!”

A sigh.

“Yoo Joonghyuk. I can see you. Aren’t you supposed to be responsible?”

An incoherent mumble was uttered from the man still sitting on the couch, hands concealing his unnaturally red face.

“God. Do I really have to do everything?”

She brushed past Kim Dokja, and made her way to the table. Picking up the discarded plastic bag on the floor, the woman trashed the cans into said bag.

The next ten minutes or so was spent cleaning up and sending the two lovebirds to bed.

——

A headache. A painful one. That was what possessed Kim Dokja’s head when he woke up. The memories came rushing back, aggravating his already throbbing head.

He held back a scream, his mouth opening up, though his voice not forming. Last night was a mistake. A big one. Why the hell had he started kissing Yoo Joonghyuk? Was he insane? That seemed like the only answer.

He flinched as he heard the sound of a door clicking open from behind him. There was only one person who could have actually been in the house at that time apart from him. The other occupant.

“Kim Dokja.”

“Don’t talk to me for the next 2-3 working days.”

He moaned, wishing that he could just disappear. Perhaps everything he had recalled was just a dream. He hoped it was. Kim Dokja felt Yoo Joonghyuk’s hand on his waist, turning him around to face the other man.

Kim Dokja frowned, as his eyes drifted to the cup Yoo Joonghyuk was holding. An odd substance was inside, filling the cup full by three quarters.

“Hangover drink. Take it.”

Kim Dokja reached his hand out to the cup and sat up in one move, slowly sipping the disgusting liquid as the taller man observed him quietly.

Kim Dokja handed the glass back to him, nodding appreciatively.

“Are we not going to talk about last night?”

Ah. There it was. It really wasn’t a dream.

“Look, I said a few stupid things, did a few idiotic actions, just kindly forget it.”

Kim Dokja replied, smiling. It wasn’t a genuine smile, like the one he usually wore, and Yoo Joonghyuk was well aware of this.

“They say that people become more honest when they’re tipsy.”

“Look, I know I said I liked you, but I hope that doesn’t change anything between us. Like I said, forget it.”

Yoo Joonghyuk released an exasperated sigh.

“Why? I said I like you too, didn’t I?”

Ah. Well he did say that, didn’t he? What exactly was Yoo Joonghyuk getting at? He was usually more blatant than this, barely leaving any room for interpretation.

“So what?”

“Kim Dokja. Let’s date.”

Never mind. There was the direct man Kim Dokja was so used to. He let out a surprised laugh, although he was unsure why exactly he was so shocked.

“Alright. Let’s date.”

Kim Dokja wrapped his arms around Yoo Joonghyuk’s neck, Yoo Joonghyuk who had now turned fully towards him. Yoo Joonghyuk, who was wearing a small smile. Yoo Joonghyuk, who finally felt content for the first time in forever.

“So where did we leave off last night?”
