Broken Promises

Summary:

Some promises are meant to be broken, and others should have never been made. A wizard's technique in Wizard's Chess can tell you much more about his character than a lifetime of friendship. Ominis was always the better player, but Sebastian was never afraid to meddle with the pieces.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Notes:

hello everyone! I have recently started obsessing with the idea of writing something about Ominis and Sebastian, so here it is. This is just a short prologue, but I promise the following chapters are significantly longer! :) I will update once a week so I hope you stick around to read the story!

Let me know if you'd like a clearer summary!

Chapter Text

“Promise me, Ominis.” Sebastian raised his tone, which could barely be considered a whisper at this point. There was no reason to whisper, they were in the undercroft, yet something stopped him from speaking properly, almost as if he was afraid his voice could shatter the delicate agreement he was trying to conclude with his best friend.

“I-” Ominis tried to get a word in, his expression echoing the discontent and insecurity he felt.

“Please, Ominis. Promise me,” Sebastian pleaded, reaching for his friend’s hand, squeezing it just so slightly. Ominis knew he would give in, regardless of how badly he didn’t want to. Sebastian was family, and he was willing to do anything to ensure he did not lose him.

Ominis pulled his hand away from Sebastian, whose expression grew even more desperate. “Of course. I promise. Nobody will ever find out. This topic dies here.”

“Thank you,” Sebastian exhaled in relief, his body loosening immediately, “I am sorry.”

“Don’t apologise. This is equally my fault as it is yours,” Sebastian noticed the finality in Ominis’ tone. This was it. His nightmare was over. Everything would be okay.
