“Look out!” Anya called out. She shot at a zombie that had almost pounced on Ollie.
“A-Ah, thanks!” Ollie said, “You covered me once again, ehe~”
It was nighttime in the zombie-infested city they called home, and they were supposed to meet up outside the safe zone to embark for a mission, the three of them- and one member of their time was suspiciously missing.
“Can you focus for one second, Ollie?” Anya said. She sniped a few more zombies that Ollie had overlooked. “I wouldn't need to cover you if you got into the pillbox.”
Ollie dashed up to the elevated area Anya was fortified in, taking potshots at the horde on the way, before flipping into the safe zone.
Ollie hit her own head. “ Teehee~ You know, I still have mixed feelings about this,” Ollie said, as she shot some zombies, “I mean, I became a good zombie, so maybe some of these other zombies could be, too…”
“Well, sure, so if you see any trying to wangy-wangy us, we’ll see if we can reform it,” Anya said. She pulled the pin on a grenade and tossed it over her cover. “But for now, these zombies are trying to eat us,”
“Heh heh, “ Ollie began, “Well, I could also— Ow!”
Anya smacked her head. An explosion went off below them.
“And we still don’t know where Reine is,” Anya said. She reloaded her gun, “Hey, can you check your transmitter?”
Ollie pulled out her tracking device, “Lemme see…” She fiddled for a moment- “OH I GOT IT—!!”
Anya quickly shut Ollie's mouth, “Shhh!!! Don’t scream like that! You'll only invite more zombies here!”
Ollie smiled, with Anya’s hand over her mouth. “Mmrph-hrpm!”
Anya removed her hand from Ollie's mouth. ““Mmm— Pwah!! Ah! I see where Reine is, trust me to lead the way,”
Ollie jumped out of the pillbox, to walk past the piles of dead zombies.
Anya signed but followed suit. “... I’m so doubting you…”
“T-r-u-s-t me~!”
And so they went on a new mission: to find their missing team member, with Ollie leading the way.
A few sneakings and skirmishes later, Anya and Ollie finally reached the chokepoint of their mission, and one of the objectives they originally had set out to complete.
Ollie posed triumphantly, looking over the docked, broken ocean liner. “We have arrived!!!”
Anya realized there were so many zombies around the ship, and immediately dragged Ollie to take cover. “Keep your head down! There are a lot of zombies here!”
“Ah sorry sorry,” Ollie said.
Ollie checked her tracker again, “So we need to split up and see what we can get?”
Anya frowned and looked at Ollie, “Huh? Ain’t we here to plant explosives and more importantly, search for Reine?”
“They said in here a lot of good loot—”
“Stop playing around!” Anya smacked Ollie’s head.
“OW!!!”
“We’ve been setting this boat as a trap for zombies for a few weeks,” Anya said, “And the initial plan is, once we lure enough of them on here we’ll blow up the whole thing.”
“But that’s the point,” Ollie said, “If there’s any loot on the zombies this place would be Crawling with it.”
Anya blinked her eyes a few times, “Tante tako teaches you many things, huh?”
“Hehe,” Ollie grinned. “And also, we get to blow this whole place up with a huge EXPLOSION!!!”
“Personally, I don’t see why we need to blow up the ship at all, we could just go in and slay the zombies,” Anya said, “But that’s orders, i guess.”
“Well, the benefit too, is if the zombies start chasing us we can cut the boat loose and blow it up,” Ollie said. “And that should keep the zombies from crossing the river,
“But then we can’t cross either…” Anya said, doubting Ollie's idea.
“We can take the long way around,” Ollie winked. “So! We split up and plant as much C4 as we can and then get out of the boat.”
Anya sighed, but she agreed with Ollie’s plan, “Hey, take care on that side.”
Ollie nodded her head, then they split up and entered the ship from different directions. With many obstacles and zombies attacking them, Ollie and Anya were able to take them down with no problem.
After a while, they finally finished planting their C4 on the ship.
“Alright I’m done here, do you copy Ollie?” Anya said over her radio.
“O-Oh, ah, yeah!” Ollie replied.
“Ollie? I'm done planting the C4, let me know when you’re out of the ship.”
“Aha—” Ollie said on her radio very nervously.
“Ollie?” Anya looked around and realized all the C4 that she just planted suddenly beeping.
"ANYAAA RUN!!!" Ollie’s voice came through the radio.
“GOD DAMN IT OLLIE!!!” Anya yelled. She stuffed her radio in her bandolier and started running.
And there was a pack of zombies in the way, Anya quickly burst them down and kept at it-
“Anya, I thought you said, it was good to hit the trigger,” Ollie said nervously, “Please don't be mad…”
The commotion attracted more zombies from lower on the ship- blocking the stairwell. Anya started mowing them down-
And then her gun clicked. “Tch,” Anya said, and she pulled out her keris and charged.
“Anya!” Ollie yelled, from the bridge.
A quick melee later and Anya finished climbing the stairs to the sunroof of the boat- in the distance, she saw Ollie on the bridge, on the far side of the ladders linking the boat to the roads-
“Anyaa!!!” Ollie yelled, and Anya heard her voice both through her radio and in the nighttime air. Ollie pulled out her rifle and sniped some of the zombies pursuing Anya-
Anya ran, as fast as she could, to the edge of the boat-
But... when she got to the end—
The timer went off.
“Ah,” Anya said. She looked to Ollie, distraught, on the other side of the chasm. “Hang in there Oll—”
And the ship exploded.
"Anyaaa nooo!!!" Ollie reached out, towards the explosion of boat pieces and zombie pieces.
She fell to her knees. "My best friend... I will always remember you-" Ollie said as she saluted.
There was a clunk at the base of the bridge
“First Reine, now Anya…” Ollie said as she sniffled.
“Ollie!” Anya’s voice came.
“I'm gonna miss you so much… it's like I can still hear her voice…”
“OE Ollieee!!!”
Ollie rubbed her eye. “I seem to be hallucinating too much, her voice is getting clearer in my ears—”
“Its because you can see me, baka!” Anya said. “Look below you!”
Ollie sniffled, “I thought you already… already…”
“I’m a weapon, we can’t drown,” Anya said, “But if I fall off this bridge I'll have to walk the long way to the shore.
Ollie stared at Anya for a second.
Anya sighed. “Can you lend me a hand here, please?”
“Oh! Yeah yeah,” Ollie pulled out her hand to help Anya, and Anya immediately grabbed her hand and Ollie pulled Anya with all her strength.
And the pair of them rested at the edge of the road, taking a moment to look at the burning ocean liner slowly sinking into the river.
And another trek further led the pair of them towards a warehouse on the outskirts of the city.
“Alright, Reine should be… here…”
The small warehouse was disused, and there was still dust. Not invaded at least, and the power still worked. When Ollie checked the lights.
“Eh? Where’s Reine, the dot indicates that she is here though,” Ollie said in confusion.
Anya frowned, she felt something was wrong with the place, “Ollie, can you hand me the transmitter?”
“Oh, sure,” Ollie handed over the transmitter.
Anya blinked, and immediately slapped her own face, pulling her hand down under her eyes in exasperation, “I want to eat a zombie now…”
“What’s wrong Anya?” Ollie asked innocently.
“Ollie… you idiot… You were tracking our objective , not Reine’s location!’ Anya fiddled with the tracker, “Here! That’s where Reine should be.”
Ollie and Anya looked over the tracker- pointing in the opposite direction they had traveled.
Which meant they’d have to go back across the river, the long way.
They let out a collective groan, but restocked their supplies and ammo and then after a brief rest, headed out to find their friend.
“Huh, this place looks sort of familiar,” Ollie said, as they traveled through the city, toward where their tracker was now telling them to go.
”It's our home city, it should look familiar,” Anya replied.
They fought through a horde of zombies on the long way around the bridge.
“Woah, a big boy!” Ollie said, shooting from her hip.
“Watch out Ollie!” Anya threw her grenade and shot it as it impacted the zombie- blowing the mutant zombie hulk apart.
“Woohoo!!!” Ollie looked to her left, “Oh more of you huh, time to party!”
They both put everything into crushing the hordes of zombies that were closing in on them.
And tired, battered, bruised, and beaten, Ollie and Anya stumbled into the building.
“Now this really looks familiar,” Ollie said.
Anya didn’t say anything, but she frowned in agreement.
And when they got to the room where the tracker indicated Reine was.
Ollie gently opens the door.
And the two of them peered in, into a room filled with unsorted loot, clutter, random keepsakes-
“Goddamit,” Anya said, “This is Reine’s room,”
“How can you tell? I can’t see the floor or walls,” Ollie said
“Exactly,” Anya said. “You made us go in a complete circle, you complete idiot,”
Anya bonked Olle’s head.
And that commotion caused a figure on the far side of the room, on a bed piled up with looted plush toys, to stir awake.
“Reine we are here—” Anya and Ollie say, in unison- how shocked they are….
“ Yaaawwn Oh hi, good morning!” Reine said.
Ollie and Anya just stared at Reine and blinked.
“Um… Did I sleep in?” Reine asked innocently.
Anya clenched her hand till the veins were visible in her fists. While Ollie smoldered, with a pitch-black aura surrounding her
And then…
WHACK
Reine got bonked on her head and slapped, in unison. “OW~--”
But then Anya and Ollie in unison ran in to embrace Reine in a group hug, “We were so worried about you!”
Reine froze for a moment, before returning the hug, squeezing her two best friends. “You guys… thank you!”
