Chapter Text
Within the bridges of our universes lies a realm of quirks and souls, of magic and wizardly I have called the Immaterium. It is a realm of illogical meaning, souls are seemingly located here, a culmination of one's being. Any life has a soul, from the smallest of viruses to the largest of elephants, but it is only sentient life, who's souls actually glow within the Immaterium, in this case, humans. Our souls release and radiate emotions, thoughts and belief into the warp that seemingly clot the lands of the Immaterium, giving life towards the Immaterium where it would be barren otherwise.
The state of the Immaterium is a reflection of thee sentient beings within real space, a perfect mirror, and so, our hopes, dreams and aspirations, our beliefs and social structures, our highest and lowest moments and our nature.
In times where emotions become extreme, where belief becomes great, when many experience extremely high and low moments within lives ,the Immaterium responds with the creation of Entities, the culmination of the very essence radiated from souls. With enough time humanity's existence soon culminated the Immaterium from an empty wasteland into a ecosystem full of entities warring or coexisting with one another.
The event known as the Black Death occured on ancient Europe occured, the death of millions erupted such emotion, such panic and horror to the populace, despair rung throughout the world and all this culminated within the warp into a larger and larger energy-based lifeform until the explosion bursted, erupting like a volcano within the Immaterium, the first Chaos God, Grandfather Nurgle was born.
Nurgle, while terrifying, had the personality of a smelly friendly man, he was far more powerful than any of the entities, but he went elsewhere and carved a home faraway from the other entities, only those who dare attack would be annihilated by the Grandfather and there he sits to this day.
It was peaceful for a time within the Immaterium, until the next humongous disaster occured, The World Wars.
The World Wars, causing more death than the former disaster, brewed much change within the Immaterium, entities were shredded apart over and over again, as even Nurgle braced within his burning forest. It was in the first World War, that the second Chaos God was born, Khorne.
The blood that was spilt many centuries ago culminated for eons. The breaking point was reached and millions of people raging and pointing hatred at each other, elevated the fading entity embodying war that was born in the old times of War and elevated him into a Chaos God, a Blood God and he, unlike Nurgle, began to slaughter and slaughter as many entities as he could find. The ecosystem was fractured and ripped asunder by the Blood God and his daemonic army, however, he was easily stopped by the governing Gods within the warp the Religion Gods.
Belief holds an immensely powerful light within the warp radiating power like no other. The religions humans believe in spawned in many religious icons and armies within the warp, and they kept the balance of power tipped in humanity's favour within the realm of souls. Nurgle was spared as he did not seek violence, Khorne however was casted back, deep into the darker sides of the Immaterium.
In World War 2, the birth of the God of Change and Manipulation was birthed, Tzeentch. Not much is known about this one, he did not seek conflict with the religious icons and went off to create his own lands. While being the most fearsome and dangerous of the four today, he remained mysterious even at his birth. Although a rather disturbing conclusion can be drawn out.
Tzeentch isn't like the other Gods, he isn't even like his fellow Chaos Gods. He was allegedly born from the large arms race between waring countries, however, he seemed far too distant to humanity. He is the only one who properly thinks and plans, Khorne has a giant hammer serving as his mind, Nurgle cares too much of family but Tzeentch plans, and plans. Even if humans were planning a lot during the second war, there statistically should not be enough power to birth a Chaos God. There are multiple theories that could result in his birth.
Firstly, it could be that he was a normal entity that fought his way to the top, that won against insurmountable odds. This could be possible it could explain his intelligence but this theory has a lot of holes. One, why does Khorne hate Tzeentch for this, did he do something so bad he would consider it to be dishonorable to the highest degree? Two, it does not explain his rampant use of prophecies and three, there is no proof that an entity could become a Chaos god on his own.
Secondly, it could be that humans from that era have discovered the Immaterium and was able to weaponize it to such a n extent that Tzeentch was born. This is the least probably theory, it does not explain his prophecy personalities, his malice and most importantly, how humans even did it.
Finally, this is the most probable theory, the arms race did contribute to Tzeentch's birth, but it was not that who birthed him, rather, it was something else, something not human. This is as intriguing as it is horrifying, Tzeentch's origins are most likely very alien, with the prophecies being able to go under that banner, a swirling matter of human and alien power, creating the most intelligent and versatile god with one factor that can trump any other, Change.
The most prominent theory is that the seeds for Tzeentch's birth occured far back, during the prehistoric era, aliens may have landed and left power within the Immaterium for the first time their experiences with dinosaurs may have given a lot of emotions and power, it has been warped throughout the eons and became what is now seen as the Lords of Change, Tzeentch's Greater Daemons.
The birth of two Chaos Gods have changed the Immaterium entirely, more violent entities and storms casted and popped throughout and soon, the soul began to develop a sort of immune system against the harrowing reaches of it's surroundings. This involves absorbing the surrounding Warp energy and turning it into a shield to defend it. This immunity, reflects upon the individual, causing the phenomenon of the first quirks to appear.
Soon, humanity plunged into a new dark age, the age where quirks ran rampant as civilians riot for one reason or another, but this only seemed to cause pain or elevate the pride of people who have those unique abilities, thriving for perfection and glory in all manners, to be superior to others. This soon birthed the Chaos God Slaanesh into the Immaterium and a limit was reached.
After the dawn of quirks, the world ravaged by a challenge in faith never before seen, many people stopped worshipping religion and worship others, soon, the power of the Religious Gods dwindled and the hierarchy of the ecosystem reached a complete breaking point when Slaanesh was born. They no longer had enough power to hold back the darkness and soon, each one was destroyed, one by one, as Chaos took hold and became the dominant power within humanity's Immaterium.
Many in power began to bring order and compliance back into society. Chief among them was All For One, a man who could steal and give quirks of his own choosing, he was a threat to their power and threatened to uproot them for good, and so, Chaos for the first time in history, banded and planned their trimuph. Quirks are the natural immune response for a soul, the Immaterium's increasingly violent nature activated the quirk response, allowing souls to thrive in a realm that is no longer safe. However, like the human body, add too much white blood cells and leukemia is diagnosed, add too much quirks and possession is diagnosed.
Many who gain more than one quirk loses their humanity, turning into a monster, more quirks allow for small openings for entities to take over and possess, creating a sort of parasitic relationship between the two. All For One unknowingly provided the perfect breeding ground, he gathered millions upon millions of quirks under his thumb, allowing the essence of the Chaos Gods to fester within, he began to lose his mind as dozens of daemons swarmed his soul, breaking it down little by little, until he became nothing more than a throttling lunatic, revealing his location unintentionally to the eight user of One For All.
Chaos has gathered many followers around the world and not only villains who were desperate enough and civilians unknowingly getting involved, but also many heroes who have become disillusioned with society.
Japan and many countries have decided to unite their resources to keep Chaos at bay, by silencing whoever that tries to leak information of the Chaos Gods, they have founded the organisation of the Inquisition, detectives given free reign to do whatever they see fit and necessary to disband any knowledge of Chaos from society, through means that would seem inhumane.
Within the Warp, below the Chaos Gods rule many strong powers that less would find contact with.
Within the more deep parts of the Immaterium, rests a structure build by the Religious Gods known as the Black Library, a permanent location within the Immaterium that houses the entire history of humanity and is still updating in live to this day. If humanity is wiped out by a cataclysm, future alien archaeologists could look to the Black Library as the last bastion of human knowledge and culture and will last for millions of years.
It is said that those that enter the black library could gain wisdom and power beyond anything our species have ever seen. Thus, it is heavily guarded by a particularly humourous entity.
Cegorach, the Laughing God was birthed out of humanity's sense of the purest form of humor, from the Middle Ages to today, he is an amalgamation of all humour that has ever been said. It is said that he is one of the few entities within the Immaterium that has been truly trusted by the Religious Gods due to his cunning and tactics so advanced it was even comparable to the God of Change. He is in no way fit enough to fight down any one of the Gods of Chaos in his current position, but he has planned the fall of the Chaos God Slaanesh for eons now, with only a few things needed to get the ball rolling down.
The Religious Gods, while beaten were not destroyed. A movement set upon by an organisation called the "Hand of Christ" have also discovered the existence of the Immaterium, they have devised that if enough religious Christians populate the world they can bring back the Christian God, the manifestations of the belif upon Christian religion by countless millions within the Warp back on the table. After a few years, people associated with the movement begun to vision of 'a small golden child'. This elevated the movement even more, and soon, the last sparks stomped by Slaanesh blazed in glory into the 'Star Child', an entity hidden from the gazes of many entities. It stood within and silently watches the Chaos Pantheon from afar and had devised a giant plan with the help of Cegorach which is still unfolding to this day for if he succeeds, this would also pave the way for the other Religious Gods to be resurrected in a similar manner.
Hoeeverz humanity's relationship with the paranormal started far before even the dawn of civilisation known to humanity even did.
Long Ago, the first humans who emerged out of the primordial ooze guided many of the human ancestors from the neanderthals to homosapiens today or a thousand years ago. They were called the Shamans, they were the wisest, immortale, and competent humans around, they were all a type of human called a Pysker. While a quirk forms a shield around the soul to protect it from hostile threats, a Pysker is a soul so utterly bright and powerful that it is able to absorb and expel warp energy, essentially being able to do anything with high limitations, with this, they were able to keep the peace and develop a civilisation that was on the verge of conquering the stars.
However one day, meteors struck the ground in large craters, scouts went to investigate and out of the ruins, came powerful monstrous metal aliens known as the C'Tan, the Star Gods. There were few but each held incredibly large amounts of power, each seem to be a damaged shard of an Immaterium Gods that had been stuffed inside a machine by unknown means and were able to call upon their power from within the Warp to attack the human race.
These abominations begun to charge against the human race and begun attacking everything. Their weapons gleamed with malice the winds carried their sanity-shattering attacks that could rupture even the strongest of material. Even with humanity's planet-destroying superweapons, they were unable to defeat the C'Tan.
The Shamans grew desperate and soon, thought of a solution, to combine their souls within the Immaterium and unite them into one powerful being, a being of true power that humanity to this day could never create to even match, a being so potent and strong that even Gods within the Immaterium fear even speaking his name.
He emerged and was given the title of "The Emperor of Mankind" by the remaining human race, and begun a war whose name was lost to time. In the end, nearly the entire human race went extinct, but the Emperor was able to hunt down each one of the C'Tan and bring them down. The Deceiver, Nightbringer and even the strongest of the C'Tan the Void Dragon, all of them were shattered into even smaller shards and locked away for just snuffing them out could have devastating effects for reality itself.
Their shards remain active to this day, hidden under the eyes of the society that would come about in the wake of the apocalypse.
The Emperor renounced his title and is only known as the Traveller. He watched humanity rebuilding back from the stone age to today from afar. Silently watching and protecting. For the Shamans were the first humans and all others were descendants of them, the Traveller is essentially humanity's father. He watched as the Immaterium destabilized and the Chaos Gods were born. Pathetic he called them, for if they were compared with the Star Gods of old, stomping would not even be a fitting term to what happens next.
Yet, the Traveller did not smite them, for they would provide an excellent lesson for humanity, a great enemy so they could independently unite and destroy Chaos, through not his efforts, but their alone. The most he did was give a large warning to them, which ingrained fear within the each of them, coming to know him as the "Anathema".
