Ohana

Summary:

With the sports festival behind him, Izuku needs some time to cope with what he's learned. Thankfully, his mom's there to make it better.

May 20

Notes:

I've had an awful few weeks, and I really wanted something a bit more... relaxed and wholesome. Super freaking short.

Work Text:

One for All is haunted.

That single sentence swirled endlessly in his head as he laid on his bed. The sports festival was over, Izuku lost to Todoroki, without actually loosing, and he'd found out that the 200+ year old quirk was haunted.

Because, of course it was.

Why wouldn't the naturally quirkless kid end up with a haunted quirk? Why wouldn't his quirk be haunted by a bunch of dead people?

He was a man of fact, of science, of analysis, who focused on concrete evidence. Hell, Midoriya wasn't even religious in the slightest! He didn't believe in an afterlife of any kind. And yet, here he fucking was.

If his hands didn't hurt so badly, he would have assumed this whole day was nothing but a bad dream.

He couldn't have stepped on Kacchan's face when he'd blown himself up. He couldn't have won first place in the first event. He couldn't have seen the vestiges of the past seven users. He couldn't have used One for All to break his finger before taking down Shinsou.

Absolutely none of that could have possibly happened.

And yet.

Now that he knew there were seven people constantly watching through his eyes, everything was suddenly a lot more awkward. From showering, to using the restroom, to changing, everything he did was being watched. It creeped him out.

That wasn't even touching on the disaster which was Shinsou's self esteem or Todoroki's family. Holy fuck, why did everyone pick today to dump their trauma on him?

He flopped over onto his stomach and groaned loudly into his pillow. He was training to be a hero, but, when it came to getting his friend out of an abusive situation... he didn't know what to do. He'd already permanently disfigured his freaking hand trying to get through to the stubborn boy. So what else...?

Todoroki's ohana was seriously fucked up, and, as bad as it was, it wasn't even the worst thing he'd had to deal with today.

He needed a break. A lazy day to catch up on his notebooks, to maybe watch an All Might movie or two, and to curl up next to his mother while they ate katsudon. He needed some time not to be the hero course student whose life was so overwhelming.

Fuck his life. Fuck his school. Fuck everyone. They could wait until Monday.

That decided, he pushed himself up and headed towards his moms room. He knocked on her door, and she immediately rushed to him, fretting as she always did.

"Wanna go watch a movie?" He asked, faking a smile for her sake.

It seemed to work as she lit up. "I'm gonna go get the popcorn, Zuku, can you set up the movie?"

He nodded. "Sure mom, All Might Returns?"

"All Might Returns." She agreed with a little giggle. "Baby, does All Might know you watch movies about him when you're tired?"

His spine immediately straightened and his eyes narrowed. "No. No, and he never will."

She giggled again. "Sure baby. Your secrets safe with me. Get the movie ready, then go change, okay? Today feels like a takeout night. What do you think? Katsudon?"

"Yes please." God's, his mom was an angel. "Thanks mom."
