Work Text:
It had been something your grandmother told you over and over as you had grown up. “You like because and you love despite. You like someone because of all of their qualities, and you love someone despite some of their qualities.”
At the time, it hadn’t made much sense to you. In all your fantasies, your fairytale ending was a love at first sight, ride off into the sunset type dream. But little did you know that one Jack Thompson would eventually enter your life and turn it upside down.
The moment the two of you met, Jack had been a pain in your side. As two of the top agents at the SSR you always seemed to be butting heads both on cases and in the office. You had seen each other at your worst and screamed at each other until your voice was hoarse.
But despite all that, you still had managed to end up at the end of the aisle, years later. Somewhere along the way the two of you feel in love. And while it wasn’t exactly the way you thought your fairytale romance would pan out, it was so much better. Despite all the harsh glares and angry words thrown at each other, you knew you and Jack were strong enough to make.
It was something you knew so deeply in your heart that you stood before your friends and family to profess that love to Jack.
“My grandmother always told me you like someone because of all of their qualities, and you love someone despite some of their qualities.” you began. “Jack, you can be a pain in my ass, be cockier than you should be, and make me want to tear my hair out some nights.” you told him as those in the audience chuckled.
Jack looked into your eyes and quirked his head with a slight smile wondering what your point was.
“And yet, I love you with all my heart. You’ve seen be at my best and at my worst, and you accept all parts of me. You’re my best friend, and I truly don’t know what I would do without you by my side. I am so excited to spend the rest of our lives together.” you said, tears fogging over your eyes.
Even Jack had to discreetly wipe his tears away, giving your hands a firm squeeze as a silent “I love you.” The ceremony soon finished and Jack started to lean in to kiss you and start your lives as a married couple.
“You and me, sweetheart.” he whispered before closing the gap.
