Lapis lazuli was having her usual morning flight around the area surrounding beach city one fateful september morning. she was flying a little higher than usual but she figured it would be fine to fly this high "Whats the worst that could happen?" she thought to herself, Lapis was having quite a bit of fun flying this high she thought she should fly this high more often given how nice the view is she begins to close her eyes and listen to the sounds of wind as she flew she wondered why humans never thought to fly this high in the air before then she remembered humans don't have wing like she does and can't fly how silly of her to think humans could get anywhere near this high.
Lapis had begun to get bored of flying this high and wanted to go lower so she decided to have a little fun and throw caution to the wind and do a free fall to see how far she could fall before she got to scared of hitting the ground as she was falling it became harder to hear as the wind started to fill her ears with wisping and washing sounds when suddenly she felt a sinking feeling as she was suddenly hit by a fast moving object, as soon as she made full contact with the object she popped back into gem form and fell off what she would later learn was a plane.
Lapis had been hit by the front of the plane and the pilots quickly lost focus and began to lose elevation quickly trying to keep the plane stable after hitting something strange in the sky suddenly they started to lose elevation too quick and couldn't control the plane much longer as they started to fall their worst fear had been realized they were on a direct course towards the dual skyscrapers so beloved by the local population of empire city.
Peridot was back at the barn wondering what was taking lapis so long to get back home she was usually done with her morning flight by the time peridot woke up, she thought she had woken up earlier than usual or lapis was out with the other gems doing something important. she decided to turn on the television and flip through channels to pass the time and to see what these earthlings aired live on television, and if any of it stacked up to be as good as camp pining hearts. she was at first confused what was going on on the television but soon she realized she had turned on the tv to the local news channel but she couldn't seem to find a channel not airing news. "Whats going on that so important right now? stupid earthlings not abiding by my entertainmental needs" she said as she started to pay attention to the news channel she started to piece together what had happened over in empire city, a plane had crashed into these dual skyscrapers the dumb earthlings valued so much she wondered what the stupid humans had done now to cause such a large accident, probably human error she figured humans were indeed stupid.
peridot waited for hours for lapis to get back home and she began to get concerned that lapis might have gotten hurt (she also decided to relay all their recent conversations in case she said something that hurt lapis enough to abandon peridot suddenly, she didn't.) after about 3 hours lapis ran into the barn yelling for peridot while holding back tears. peridot rushed to lapis "what happened lazuli?" peridot asked concerningly. lapis told peridot everything that happened and how terrible she felt for causing such a tragic accident, peridot reassured lapis repeating that it wasn't her fault and how could she have known that humans had aircraft and couldn't control them well enough to not crash into buildings. lapis found this idea hard to stomach but peridot insisted that lapis shouldn't beat herself up so much over this and that she wouldn't fix anything by moping around and should go apologize to the humans soon and explain what happened. peridot hugged lapis reassuring everything would be okay in the end.
