Summary:

Lena was dismayed when she was not allowed her coffee but could not even stay pretend-mad when Kara offered her milk and painkillers along with promises of cuddles for the entire day.

Work Text:

Lena was having a great time, pampered by one pouting Kryptonian who insisted on Lena staying over so that she could take care of her best friend. Having no energy and frankly, no motivation to refute, Lena chose to bask under the undivided attention instead. She woke to the smell of coffee, mouth tugging upwards despite the pain that accompanied consciousness. Upon walking into the living room, she was mildly surprised at the number of boxes of doughnuts that covered all surfaces. Sitting on the sofa was Kara, whose mouth was stuffed so full Lena was not sure if she was chewing.

Lena was dismayed when she was not allowed her coffee but could not even stay pretend-mad when Kara offered her milk and painkillers along with promises of cuddles for the entire day.

However, their breakfast was rudely interrupted by a phone call from Alex. Kara flew off to help but not without a stern command for Lena to ‘stay put and be a good girl’.

Anyway.

Supergirl was obviously needed then.

After several moments, her brain finally rebooted and she turned on the television. Expecting Kara to face a normal fire or a brief fight, Lena grabbed a doughnut and settled into the sofa. Drowsily, she turned her attention to the news, squinting her eyes when the scene looked more chaotic than she expected.

The team was visibly struggling against a hoard of wannabe gangsters armed with alien weapons that they would not dare touch if they knew the destruction they were capable of. One careless configuration and an even more reckless finger could blow up half of the district. Alas, they were just really dumb humans with one brutish goal of taking National City’s heroes out with sheer will and firepower.

The doughnut crumbled between Lena’s spasming hands as she watched with growing horror.

The Superfriends was handling the entire thing with caution, taking a more defensive stance. With Brainy in their midst, they were undoubtedly aware of the weapons’ volatility. Lena winced whenever a goon landed a hit on one of the heroes.

Incapacitated, Lena was forced to watch the scene with increasing frustration. If she was there, she could have prevented that blast that briefly knocked all of them off their feet or helped Nia out of that tight spot when a couple of them ganged up against her.

She stood up when one of the thugs aimed a monstrous looking gun at Kara. Its barrel had a greenish hue and Lena immediately turned towards the door. The motion caused the room to spin but Lena was undeterred.

Lena dragged herself to her car and made her way to the tower in a haze. Even if she was technically benched, the least she could do was provide back-up. Her driving was the sloppiest since she first learned to drive, and it would be embarrassing if she had the brainpower to overanalyse it. Irresponsible driving could barely be counted as a crime next to all of Luthor’s dirty laundry, right?

Before she knew it, she was haphazardly parked in front of the building. When she clambered out of the car, her vision blacked out for just a second and she felt herself go horizontal.  Thankfully, a pair of firm arms wrapped around her before she could fully collapse. She sagged gratefully against them.

Blinking the black spots out of her eyes, she looked up to see a hero garbed in primary colours. Said hero was glaring at her, a crinkle doing its best to etch itself into otherwise perfect features. Lena cringed. The toughest criminal had withered under Supergirl’s glare and Lena was the most criminally of all criminals right now.

“What are you doing out here!” Kara wrapped her arms tightly around her. Before Lena could blink, she was sitting behind the tower’s control table, a blanket wrapped around her.

“WHAT THE HELL LUTHOR!” An even louder and harsher voice boomed across the enclosed space. Alex Danvers loomed into view and Lena withered under her glare.

“DO YOU WANT TO TEAR YOUR SURTURES?” Alex was frothing at the mouth. “BREAK A FEW MORE RIBS? GET PERMANENT HEAD INJURY?”

The other super friends stood around her, each in various states of incredulity or in Brainy’s sole case, boredom. They all looked surprisingly unscathed for people who were in a fight.

Lena tried to look sheepish but probably just looked sleepy instead. Alex’s face had moved on from red and was venturing into an unhealthy shade of purple. Lena could not help the snort that escaped.

Rolling her eyes, Alex huffed out, “Kar, take her home. I don’t want to see her face for at least a week.”

Warm arms wrapped around her again and she was asleep before Alex could get another word in.

Lena glared at the television, changing the channels every few seconds when it became apparent that they are no longer covering the latest fight downtown. She was so angry at National City’s big bad guys for stealing Kara away from her for the second time that day.

She had sat on her hands, literally, to stop herself from shooting off to the Tower again. Kara had given her a stern dressing down for her earlier behaviour when she woke up in her own bed. She was put on a time-out of sorts, instructed not to leave her couch unless she needed a toilet, or an emergency occurred within the four walls of her empty apartment.

She was trying so hard to be patient. The fight was over and all of them looked fine in the brief shot of their clean-up crew.

But looks can be deceiving and if ponytails can hide secret identities, poor cameras and a PG rating can make heroes look less bloody.

It took all her willpower to not call Alex to see how they are post-fight, especially since she was avoiding the scary agent.

Unable to take the suspense any further, she grabbed the car keys off the coffee table and ambled towards the door. Her hand stilled on the doorknob when she heard muffled sounds from down the hallway.

“Kara, put me down or I swear to god…”

Panicking, Lena threw the key onto the floor and tried to rearrange her limbs so she looked like she was casually hanging out right next to the front door. With a worrying screech of metal, said door opened to reveal Kara holding Alex up in a bridal’s carry. The hero’s face lit up when she saw Lena.

“You know I gave you spare keys for a reason right?” Lena smirked.

Kara placed Alex down none too gently as she bent down to gingerly pick up the remains of her doorway. Tears pooled in those baby blue eyes and Lena’s eyes widened.

“Kara, it’s okay. I can buy a new one tomorrow!” It would cost significantly more than ten grand but it was no big deal.

Somewhat placated, Kara super sped past any lingering guilt and started hiccupping with every errant sob.

A disgruntled Alex stood up and glared accusingly at Lena, “You! Were you planning to escape again?”

“What makes you think that I…”

Alex held up a pair of keys.

Damn it.

Kara floated towards Lena and wrapped her in a warm embrace. “Don’t be mean to Lena.”

Alex stared incredulously at her. “You should be on my side! Lena needs to rest!”

Suddenly realising that her sister had good intentions and valid concerns, Kara switched sides. “Yeah Lena, rest!”

Lena sighed and made her way towards the couch, swotting away attempts by the Danvers sisters to help. As soon as she was comfortably seated, Kara flopped down next to her and nuzzled against her neck.

“Uh…” While this act of affection was not unwelcomed, it was unexpected.

Lena heard an exasperated sigh from behind her and turned towards the older Danvers in confusion.

“Okay, here’s what is going to happen,” Alex raised her hand, wiggling her fingers to catch Kara’s attention.

“Firstly, Kara has been drugged.” Alex raised a finger, stopping Lena before she could open her mouth.

“She is going to be fine, we did the bloodwork. But she is going to be loopy for a while.” Alex put up a second finger to punctuate the point. Kara giggled on cue.

“The culprit escaped so the rest of our friends are tracking them down right now.” The third finger went up. A raised eyebrow silenced Lena once more.

“I need to go back to help them and you have to take care of Kara.” A fourth finger joined the ranks.

Lena tried to cut in.

“No, you can’t come to help.” Alex finished triumphantly.

Lena slumped into the sofa in defeat. Beside her, Kara reached out to give her sister a high-five.

“What, Kara –“

“You wanted a high-five!”

“No, I was counting –“ Alex pinched her nose bridge.

Lena just chortled as Alex turned on her heels and stormed out the apartment.

“We love you, Alex!”
