The open window let a draft in, the gentle breeze felt nice on his skin. The sunlight poured in the room, lightly dusting Clarice’s face, framing it perfectly. The image of her like this was almost dazzling, Climber had half a mind to look away, but he willed himself not to. He wanted to soak in her perfection for a while longer. She met his gaze, giving a soft smile back and warmth filled his chest. Climber couldn’t help the grin that instantly split across his face. She motioned him over onto the bed. Clarice opened her arms, an invitation he’d always take without a second thought, and jumped into her arms.
She covered him with a soft blanket and they laid on the bed together.
“Did something happen?” Clarice whispered as Climber buried his face in the crook of her neck. Her voice sounded like heaven, he never wanted this moment to end. She smelled like the cucumber shampoo he had helped her pick out. It was a pleasant, fresh fragrance.
He shook his head in response, mumbling a soft, “No, I just missed you is all…”
He could feel the smile on her lips when she pressed a gentle kiss to the top of his head. Climber sighed in content as she rubbed soothing circles into his back, enjoying the comfortable silence. She had her hair out of her usual braid today. He fidgeted with a lock of her hair, twirling it around his finger. It was his favorite color, this specific color of red always made him feel happy. Meeting Clarice had made it his favorite.
His eyes wandered over to her face again, to her long lashes and soft lips— he wished he knew what she was thinking. Clarice had always been strong, at least in Climber’s eyes, she had steady hands and an unwavering heart. She wasn’t the type to talk much about her feelings, but she’d always find other ways to show them. She expressed his love for him quietly, not needing to say anything, yet it was still so obvious; reassuring smiles and exchanged glances meant for him and only him.
Clarice shifted a little to look at him, her eyes picking him apart as if she knew what he’d been thinking. He meets her gaze unflinchingly, placing a hand on her cheek.
She steals his breath away, taking his hand and pressing a chaste kiss to his inner wrist. There’s a brief pause before she continues, getting rid of the space between them as she pulls him impossibly closer, promising him an unyielding love. Climber melts into her embrace— only knowing the warmth of her body and the gentle kiss they shared.
