Kate takes a deep breath as soon as she hears her alarm going off, with a simple move she slaps the object to shut it off and opens her eyes, looking at the plain white ceiling.
It’s been around 3 months since Lucy found out about Cara and 3 months since Kate’s world won’t even look at her. At the beginning she understood why the brunette was avoid her so much, but know Kate can’t remember the last time she was able to have a proper night of sleep. 3 months since she held Lucy’s hand for the last time.
Kate sits on her bed and gets her phone, since a total of zero messages, she sighs and gets up, going into the bathroom and turning on the shower. As the hot water fall in her back she let herself cry, again, like every single morning. Kate thinks she won’t ever recover from the pain she made Lucy and herself go through
As soon the clock hits 9A.M her heels make those usual noises as she enters the building she works in, with the team, with Lucy. Her hands are sweating and her heart is racing, just like every other morning. As she walks in she’s greeted by Jesse and Kai, she smiles at them and continue her walk to Tennant’s office. And Kate can’t help but notice that Lucy isn’t at her desk yet, what it’s usually comum since she always brings in some coffee for everyone.
“Good morning Kate” Jane says as Kate walks in and closes the door behind her
“Morning Jane” She says in a soft voice. “I brought some papers that I need you to take and look, it’s from the new case” She hands Jane the papers but the other woman just stands there, looking at her
“I need to tell you something… and you’re not going to like it” Tennant says and Kate froze
“Is Lucy okay?” She asks immediately
“She is, is alright. But… I found out from Ernie that…” she sighs. “Lucy is going out with someone” Kate feels that she can’t breathe in this moment.
“She moved on…” she says as she sits down on one of Jane’s chair
“You didn’t expect her to be… alone right?” She says sitting right next to the blonde woman
“I don’t know. No. But… I… wasn’t ready for this, not right now” she says as she feels her eyes tearing up. “I still love her so much Jane, I love her and I never got the chance to tell her that. And now I won’t ever have this chance.” She says and the first tears role down her cheek
“I’m sorry Kate, I really am” Tennant says and she holds Kate hands
“I know… me too”
After more five minutes Kate knows that they have to work, they don’t have time for drama this time of the morning on a Monday. She just leave the papers on Jane’s desk and gets out of the office saying a soft bye to her friend.
She feels weak and she knows her eyes are puffy red, so she just puts her head down and walks out of the squad work place as fast as she could, but she stops as someone bumps into her
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t paying atten…” she stops talking as she lifts her head and see Lucy eyes right in front of her
“It’s alright, I wasn't looking too.” She says giving the blonde a small smile. Kate just nods and starts to walk away again. “Whistler!” Lucy shouts and she stops, looking back
Lucy makes her way to the taller woman and takes one of the coffees she was holding and hands it to her. “Your coffee”. She gives it to her and immediately turn around, walking to her desk
That was the first time, in three months that Lucy brought Kate a coffee.

At the end of the day, Kate has to go back to the squad’s work place to get the papers she gave to Jane back. It’s already 8P.M and she’s almost sure everyone has left at this time. So she isn’t pretty worried in looking good or… okay.
As the elevator’s doors open she walk straight in, seeing only one light turned on, right above Lucy’s desk, where the short woman is looking at something in her computer, but as she hear the high heels noise she looks up.
“Hey” Kate says, walking a little slower now
“Hey” Lucy gives her a small smile. “Tennant left the papers at her desk, she said you could go in and get them”
“Right, thanks” She says walking to the office, but she stops right on the side of Lucy’s desk. “What are you doing here this time?”
“Work” She says simply
“Lucy…” Kate says and Lucy sights, knowing damn well that the blonde knows her better than this
“I don’t wanna go home, so here I have work and I can’t distract myself from… thoughts” She lays back in her chair and turns to the side, now looking straight to Kate
“Are you okay? I know I’m probably the last person you want to talk right know but…”
“You’re right, you’re the last person I wanna talk right now” Lucy says and Kate just holds her breath, nodding her head and threatening to walk away, but Tara continues to talk. “You’re the last person I wanna talk about because the thoughts I’m running away are you, everything is you Kate Whistler”
“Jane said you’re with somebody else…” She says, getting closer to the desk, as Lucy stands up
“I am… I was. I don’t know what to do Whistler, you hurt me in a way I never thought I’d be hurt. But… I can’t… my mind can’t stay away from you! What kind of drug are you?”
“I’m so sorry Luce, I never meant to hurt you that way, you are the most special person in my life”. And there it goes, her eyes are already filling up with tears again. “And God… it hurts the thought of you with somebody else, it hurts so much”
“What was I supposed to do Kate? Not once have you apologized for what you did! Not once have you said a simple ‘I’m sorry Lucy’” She says a little louder
“You wanted space Luce, you wanted to stay away from me, I gave you that space!”
“I never wanted to stay away from you! I should, but I didn’t want that! And this feeling you have right now of me with someone else is all i’ve been feeling since Cara! It hurts doesn’t it?”
“I love you Lucy, I love you more than I thought it was possible to love someone! I love you so much that it hurts me, I wake up thinking of you and I sleep thinking about you. I miss your voice, your laugh, your touch… I miss you walking around my house in my shirts, the coffee that you make, the way you steal my clothes thinking I didn’t notice that… even though you always returned them after a day or two.” Kate says in a breath. “I will do whatever it takes to have you back.”
“I don’t know if I can… not right now” Lucy says with tears rolling down her face. Kate takes a step closer and, even with the desk between them, she wipes her tears
“I will wait, I don’t care how long it takes. You are my world Kate, and I’ll be here the second you want and the second you need” Lucy just tilts her head, feeling Kate’s touch and closing her eyes
“I need you all the time Kate” she says softly
“I’m here Lucy, I promise you…”
Their silence is break by Lucy’s phone buzzing, and the name “Skylar” appears on the screen, as soon as Kate reads it she moves her hand away from Lucy’s face, taking a step back
“Is she nice?” Kate asks
“What?” Lucy looks up after shutting off the phone
“Is this girl nice?”
“I think so…” Lucy says and Kate just nods, without saying a word she walks to Tennants office and get the papers she needed. As she walks out Lucy is in the same position, just following the blonde with her eyes
“She’s nice… but she is not you”. Lucy says and Kate stops, not looking at her
“I told you I’ll be here my sweet. I’ll wait for you, even though it hurts to see you with somebody else” She looks back to Lucy
After what it seemed like a week of silence, Lucy shuts off her computer. “I just need to grab my bag, will you wait for me?” she asks
“Always Luce.”
