Work Text:
Naomasa Tsukauchi is in Tartarus. A most secure prison in Japan with Gran Torino. Kurogiri has been captured and imprisoned. They use quirk-canceling restraints to make sure Kurogiri cannot even think of escaping. For now, Kurogiri has been put to sleep while he and Gran Torino work together to get information out of him and get his DNA results. Meanwhile, Naomasa is tasked with interrogating him.
"Remember, this is Kurogiri. Second in command to the League. We need to try and get information out of him. I trust that you can do that, Naomasa?" Gran Torino asks while looking through the monitors overlooking the cell Kurogiri is in. Naomasa simply nods and gets ready to interrogate him.
His quirk, Human Lie Detector can tell whether someone is lying or not. It's been crucial in police investigations so far and it's been perfect 100 percent of the time. He developed his quirk when his parents lied about where they kept the sweets in the kitchen. Now, he will his quirk to try and get information from Kurogiri, who he thinks is far more important than what everyone believes. He may only be a B-Rank villain but those rankings only cover influence and the number of offenses done and recorded.
He goes into the room, where a piece of glass separates him and Kurogiri and he sits down and gets ready. He nods to Gran Torino and Kurogiri slowly stirs awake. He yawns and tries to get used to the bright lights. He notices Tsukauchi and speaks.
"Oh, a guest? I didn't think that someone would see me today." He says flatly. Naomasa activates his quirk and begins the interrogation, using his quirk. He holds pieces of paper in his hands as he begins to ask questions.
"Alright, Kurogiri. Now I don't like to waste time today. Do you have any information about the members of the league?" Sounds stupid in theory but this is how he interrogates everyone. He starts bluntly, straight to the point while his quirk works to pick apart the statements they give.
"Well, I suppose I should with the fact that Himiko really likes sweets and always asks for me to get some though it is bad for her health, Dabi despite his looks cannot hold his liquor for too long, and Shigaraki still loves playing video games-" What?
"Okay, that's enough. I meant information that was important Kurogiri." Naomasa replies though he tries keeping a cool head. Kurogiri stops and simply looks at him with his yellow eyes slightly slanted downwards in what Naomasa can only assume is a shrug. The mist remains even though the quirk-canceling cuffs are on. Kurogiri then focuses and then says again.
"Well, that is important information. At least to me, it seems. What else do you want to know?' He simply asks though Naomasa swears if Kurogiri had a face, he would be smirking right now. Though Naomasa isn't sure whether he is going crazy or Kurogiri seems to act a little- childish per se. Not like a brat like Shigaraki but there's something about him that feels off. But he shrugs it off for now. He needs to continue this interrogation, if you could call it that anyway.
He clears his throat and decides to ask another question. "What is the League planning and where is Shigaraki's whereabouts?" Kurogiri stares for a moment and shakes his head? Or at least the mist shakes in that way.
"I'm sorry but I cannot say."
Naomasa blinks for a second. One second, he was rambling nonsense then the next, he completely shuts up.
"You can't or you won't? Because there is a difference between those two." He pushes. Kurogiri merely responds saying that he cannot say. Naomasa organizes the paper. This is getting nowhere. He looks toward Gran Torino for help. Gran Torino grabs a microphone and asks his question.
"Do you have any other information about the League?" He asks with a serious face. Naomasa looks at him because that question is useless here. Kurogiri will just keep talking nonsense again. Kurogiri looks to the other side and sees him.
"Oh, you must be Gran Torino. I recognized you at the raid in Kamino. And to answer your question, I have quite a lot more information but I suppose you will find it irrelevant aswell." Kurogiri greets the retired hero as if this isn't an interrogation but a meet-up. But Naomasa notices that Gran Torino signals for him to use his quirk again.
"Perhaps only one factoid then we can continue." Gran Torino asks once more. Kurogiri merely makes another expression and says one more. "Well, though this is just me Mr. Compress is the one that steals things for the members to enjoy." He says fondly.
"What, we are the League. We couldn't afford much before you know." He says. Naomasa finally notices.
What is going on? Why can't I- Naomasa notices now. He cannot tell if-
Kurogiri is lying or not.
Naomasa drops his pen onto the table getting Kurogiri's attention. How can he hear that?
"Oh well, I almost forgot. You must Mr. Tsukauchi. Your quirk helps you tell if someone is lying or not. I suppose what I said counts no?" Kurogiri asks while Naomasa is frozen. He cannot tell whether Kurogiri is lying or not-
Naomasa Tsukauchi Quirk: Human Lie Detector
This quirk allows the user to tell whether someone is lying or not. But it's not that simple. This quirk cannot be seen but this quirk, and others similar can manifest but only the user sees it. The way this manifests is that a shadow lingers around people and it obstructs the eyes of the person being interrogated and it says whether they are lying. The shadow then spells out whether they are lying or not.
This doesn't work as well for other statements like half-truths or indirect lies but he can still tell.
The shadow glitches over Kurogiri and whatever is a truth or a lie glitches over & over again. Finally, Gran Torino's voice brings him back to reality. "Naomasa are you alright?" He asks. Naomasa snaps out of it and asks the last question on his list.
"What is your real name?"
Kurogiri now scoffs. "Kurogiri is my real name. That's what the file no?" He simply asks. Naomasa looks again. And again the glitches happen. The shadows aren't saying whether it's a truth or a lie.
What is happening. He might get a migraine at this point if this goes on.
Naomasa quickly stands after noticing all the questions have been answered. With more questions.
He quickly runs out of the room, almost forgetting his papers but he runs out of there as Gran Torino sees him.
"Now you notice it?" The elderly hero asks the human lie detector. Naomasa nods. "I couldn't tell whether he was lying or not. How could I not notice?" He asks sitting down on a chair and drinking water.
Gran Torino looks at the monitors and sees Kurogiri dozing off again. He supposes that the "interrogation" was boring to him. He looks at Naomasa who looks pale. He hadn't seen him that afraid since he saw Gigantomachia for the first time, which wasn't a long time mind you.

A few hours later, the DNA results have arrived. Kurogiri is not human but a Noumu crafted from a young student. A student from UA High School. Naomasa cannot believe it as he looks at the young boy's file and then back at Kurogiri through the monitors. He does this a few times before asking-
"How could a boy like this end up as a vi-noumu?" He asks Gran Torino. The hero looks through the monitors and finally says-
"I'm not sure but I suppose this could be a factor as to why you couldn't tell if he was lying or not." He concludes and he dials a number on his phone number.
"Who are you calling Gran Torino?" Naomasa asks.
Gran Torino looks at him before answering back-
"His friends of course."
