Chapter Text
Olivia Benson smiled watching his son and his friends point excitedly at the fire engines coming into view as the class started to approach the fire station. She didn't always get to take off work as Captain of the NYPD to chaperone a field trip but when she could she took the opportunity to. The other mothers appreciated when she was around as well, telling her they feel much safer with her there to look over the children.
“Mom Look!” Noah said, grabbing Olivia's hand, something else she also enjoyed that was few and far between now that he was getting older he insisted he didn't need to hang around mom all the time.
“I see sweetheart better be on your best behavior today.” she said, squeezing his hand earning a nod as he ran back to his friends.
Once they reached the fire station the chaperones and teachers ushered the kids over to the Fire Chief who was smiling and greeting them while Olivia hanged towards the back of the group taking in her surroundings looking for all the exits and making sure nothing suspicious was around. Not that she thought there was but being a cop she never let her guard down especially when children were around.
"Hello everyone I'm Fire Chief Elliot Stabler we are so glad to have you here today." Olivia caught her breath in her throat when she laid eyes on the man before her. He was taller than her. He was very fit from what she saw, his shirt tight against his arms and chest. He may be bald but the way his blue eyes cut into her made her stomach drop. Then he smiled brightly at her and her knees turned into jello.
"Today we are going to take a tour of the station and talk about fire safety and what to do in the event of an emergency and then we will take a ride in the trucks and let you guys try on the gear." The kids started talking to themselves excitedly as Stabler directed the kids to start the tour. A few of the other firefighters started showing the kids different parts of the station and what the function of each item was.
Elliot couldn't stop looking over at Olivia throughout the tour. She took his breath away when she walked in with the kids. He immediately saw her gold shield when she walked in so that explained her taking in all the surroundings and standing behind everyone. He shoved the hand not holding his clipboard as he approached her.
"It may not be a police station but it's safe here. You don't need to stand guard." He said with a smirk. His heart filled when the small chuckled left her lips.
"I'm always on guard, Chief." She said, smiling at him.
"Well, Sargeant?" He said he didn't see the whole badge so he was just guessing.
"Captain, actually. Olivia Benson" She said lifting her chin Slightly higher.
"Oh my apologies. Well, Captain, I can promise they are safe." he said with a soft smile. Olivia smiled back and looked down when Noah approached her.
"Mom, can you hold my jacket please?" He asked, handing his navy blue zip up hoodie.
"Of course honey." She said, draping it over her arm. "Noah, have you introduced yourself to Chief Stabler?"
"I'm Noah, thank you for having us today." He said standing close to his mother.
"You can call me Elliot." Elliot said, shaking hoahs hand. "We are happy to have you." Noah smiled up at Olivia who nudged him back to the tour. Elliot smiled at her and led the kids to the other room to sit down and learn about fire safety.
After the lecture with the kids they led them down to the Fire trucks and uniforms. Each of the kids and teachers tried on parts of the uniforms while Olivia stood back taking pictures. She helped Noah put on the helmet and stepped back to take a picture.
"You try it mom!" Noah said followed by the other kids joining in telling her to put it on.
"You guys enjoy it." She said smiling when Elliot walked up beside her and set down some gear.
"Come on Captain, trade in the badge and gun for a helmet and a hose." He said, smirking. "I'll even let you wear my gear."
Olivia caved in and unzipped her boots and stepped out of them which only made Elliot taller. She let him take her hand and help her put everything on. Once she was in his jacket he placed his helmet on her head.
"How do I look?" She asked Noah who was laughing.
"I love it mom." He said, smiling wide, causing Olivia to smile.
After getting the kids and Olivia out of the fire gear they started to load the kids into the trucks. Noah ran next to Elliot with his friends to make sure they got onto Elliot's truck. He helped the kids into the truck and showed them where to stand then turned and helped Olivia into the truck letting her take the passenger seat. He went to make sure the other truck was loaded before climbing into the driver seat.
Elliot smiled the entire time hearing the kids' excitement and smiled wider when they cheered as he honked his horn. He looked at Olivia before turning on the sirens and lights and headed back to the station.
When they were off the truck Olivia jmgave Noah his jacket and started taking a head count of all the kids and chaperones. She then watched as Elliot walked up to the kids. He thanked them for coming and thanked them for being on their best behavior. He listened to the chorus of thank yous and waved as they started walking with the teachers.
"Thank you for having us Chief." Olivia said, walking slowly as Elliot joined. Her.
"It's my pleasure I love kids." He said with a shrug. "So when can I see you again?" He asked boldly. Olivia looked down, hiding her blush and smile.
"I don't know, Chief, is this you asking me on a date?" She asked looking back up.
"Maybe I am." He said and stopped walking.
"Well," She said, stopping with him. "I'll let you know, chief." She said walking away to catch up with the kids.
Elliot smiled and made his way back into the station after he saw Olivia wrap an arm around Noah. When he made it back into the station his co workers and started helping them put away the gear and pull the trucks back in.
"Please tell me she shot you down so I can shoot my shot." Elliot looked up to see Brian Cassidy approach him.
"Sorry to disappoint Cassidy." He said, shaking his head.
"Damn. Probably for the best since she's a mom. Not really the father type." He shrugged, causing Elliot to roll his eyes.
He went back into the station and busied himself with cleaning up and letting his mind wonder to Olivia and daydreaming about when they meet again.
