Work Text:

Exhausted and full of regret, Nene dragged herself to school. For the past 10 hours, she had gotten absolutely no sleep. Why? She was up the entire night playing video games. Not an uncommon occurrence.

Nene, too tired to even see what it was, just let her head rest on the nearest thing. Which happened to be Tsukasa’s shoulder.
“I’m not your personal headrest you know!” The familiar loud voice of her troupe leader, momentarily woke her up out of her trance.

“Thank god you’re not too…I’d never be able to sleep with a voice that loud and annoying…” Nene remarked.

“My voice is not loud and annoying, it’s just confident and—“ Tsukasa broke off as Nene mumbled about how she didn’t care. She leaned back into Tsukasa’s shoulder. “Oi!! Don’t you go falling asleep on me again! We still have classes to get to, mind you.” Nene didn’t move an inch.

“Fufu, seems like someone stayed up all night again,” giggled the familiar voice of Kamishiro Rui. Tsukasa groaned. “Can you get her off me…? She using me as some kind of headrest…” Tsukasa said.

“You’re doing a terrible job of being one, with your loud mouth. But I’ll take what I can get…” Nene muttered as she wrapped her arms around Tsukasa’s. “Hey! Don’t start clinging to me!” He tried to shake her off.

“Well, good luck with her, Tsukasa-kun…” Rui said, walking off. “You’re seriously not gonna help me!? That guy…” Tsukasa muttered. The bell rang, and Tsukasa was still trying to shake Nene off. “You’ve seriously gotta go to classes now!” Nene didn’t move. No response. It seemed she was in a deep sleep.

Tsukasa scoffed. “Really? How’d you even manage falling into such a deep sleep standing up…” Tsukasa stared at the mint haired girl clinging to his shoulder, the girl who was usually either cold towards him, or constantly teasing him or straight up messing with him, now asleep on his shoulder.

Tsukasa let his lips curl into a soft smile as he patted Nene’s head. By now, he was surely late for class. He didn’t think much of it, though. He decided his new course of action would be to bring Nene home and send her back to bed, then scold her about staying up all night once she woke up.

Tsukasa had awkwardly managed to bring Nene back to her house. She told Nene’s mom that Nene wasn’t feeling well, to save her the trouble of her mom getting cross with her for staying up all night.

Tsukasa gently laid Nene down in her bed. She twitched. “what are you doing…asshole….” Nene mumbled, seeming to be half awake and half asleep. “Well I’m just bringing you back to your home to sleep, like you should have been doing last night! I spent my precious time getting you back to your home so you wouldn’t have to sleep on your desk during classes!” Tsukasa said, trying to have a quieter tone.

“So full of yourself…” Nene murmured, one eye open and looking at Tsukasa. “It’s called being a gentleman! I expected a bit more gratitude from you,” Tsukasa huffed. “It’s not like asked you to,” Nene said, turning away from him. “You’ll never stop being a bully to me will you?” Tsukasa grumbled. “Nope,” Nene said, turning back to Tsukasa with a slight smile.

“Well, shouldn’t you be getting back to school? You brought me here to sleep didn’t you? Not to bicker with you?” Nene said. “Yeah, your right,” Tsukasa said, standing up out of the chair he had pulled up next to Nene’s bed, “don’t you be staying up all night on your video games again, alright?” he told her. “Geez, you sound like my mom or something…” Nene said, getting comfortable in her bed as Tsukasa left.

Nene woke up, eyes looking at the ceiling. She felt an awkward weight next to her leg, like a lump. She elevated her head upwards. To her surprise, the lump was Tsukasa, leaning forward on the chair next to her bed, resting his head on her bed. Idiot! What does he think he still doing here? Nene had told him to go back to school! For some reason, she swallowed those words. A part of her didn’t want to wake him.

Nene stared at the blonde boy next to her. A peaceful expression looks good on him. She quickly waved the thought away reminding herself this was Tsukasa. Somehow, her hand managed to find a way to rest on top of Tsukasa’s head. This was embarrassing. She can’t believe that she was running her fingers through the locks of Tsukasa Tenma. The loudest most obnoxious boy she knew. The last person she would expect to enjoy seeing sleep next to her, and take comfort in it.

Nene moved Tsukasa’s head closer to her, now letting it rest in her lap. Hopefully Tsukasa didn’t wake up anytime soon. But for some reason today, god hated her and decided to go against her word.

One of Tsukasa’s eyes opened. “N-Nene?” He stuttered. “Get off me!” Nene said, pushing Tsukasa off her. “Geez, i didn’t even do anything…” muttered Tsukasa. “Care to explain why you’re still here?” Nene asked him. “I wanted to make sure you fell asleep, but I…must have fallen asleep myself,” he said with a thoughtful expression. Nene sighed. “Were you up late too?” He looked at her for a second, then down at his feet.

“Yeah,” he admitted. “Hypocrite! Telling me to get more sleep when your also guilty…” Nene said, poking Tsukasa in the ribs. “Yeah? Then why don’t we both get some sleep then. I’ll go home for real now,” Tsukasa said, standing up. Something small in Nene’s chest, wanted Tsukasa to stay. As much as Nene hated to admit it, Tsukasa had given Nene a strange sense of comfort.

“Why don’t you just stay here?” Blurted Nene. “Eh?” Tsukasa turned back around from the door. “Only because I feel like I need to pay you back for bringing me back to my house or whatever…” Nene added quickly.

“If you insist—“

“I don’t insist! It would be better if you go back to your place…I don’t want loud mouths like you around. Again, only doing this because I feel like I’m indebted to you or something.”

“I won’t be a loud mouth! I promise! This is the first time you’ve shown me any form of gratitude…”

“Don’t make me regret it! Just get in here already…”
