How they ended up in the situation they were currently in, was hard to say as Wednesday clutched her head that was throbbing.
Her vision was blurry at best but even she could make out the situation they were in was quite dire.
She tried to move but a fierce pain shot up in her leg and she realized it was definitely broken.
She groaned placing herself up against the wall as the person next to her finally spoke.
“I wouldn’t try moving again if I were you, we’re trapped.” He said groaning himself.
Tyler.
“Let me guess, this is the stalkers doing?” Wednesday steadied her voice even though every ounce of her was in a excruciatingly amount of pain.
She was almost impressed her stalker had managed to pull something like this off.
“We fell into some kind of trap room, and as far as I can see we’re trapped pretty good.” He explained calmly and she was suddenly reminded that he was indeed responsible for the murders of several people.
Wednesday quickly scanned the room and hated that she agreed, this room was pretty well constructed, it seemed to be constructed in a metal faraday cage of sorts, lights filled each corner of the small box they were trapped in, and a camera on the ceiling facing directly at them taunted her in ways that left her nauseated.
“Lovely.” Was all she said as she closed her eyes just to escape the brightness that filled this room.
“So what’s your elaborate plan to get out of this?” He asked.
His voice a mixture of genuine curiosity and a little bit of mocking.
“You’d be surprised to hear, I don’t have one.” Wednesday admits.
“Oh come on, Great detective Wednesday Addams always has a plan.” He said.
“That’s a foolish assumption, you must’ve hit your head on the fall because if you remember I’m not that great of a detective.” She dryly reminded.
“You caught Laurel.” He shrugged.
“And kissed a serial killer.” She shot back.
“Yeah that wasn’t your brightest moment.” He smirked but it wasn’t vindictive more of an agreement.
She rolled her eyes and bit back a groan as another pain throbbed in her head.
“Looks like I'm not the only one who’s hit their head, you good?” He asked looking slightly concerned.
“Why do you care?” She asks. “What are you even doing here Tyler, you escaped police custody, shouldn’t you be on a train far away from this place?” She asks the question that had been clawing to get out every since she found him in the woods a bloody mess.
He was silent until he wasn’t.
“I don’t have a master anymore and I can’t just stay like this.” He said his tone bitter laced with determination.
“You mean you want the Hyde gone?” She infers.
“Good job Wednesday your brains still functioning.” He sarcastically jabs.
“And how exactly am I supposed to help you?” She asks.
“I don’t know, your family’s pretty known even in the outcast world, maybe your family knows someway to lock away Hyde.” He shrugged.
“Well doesn’t look like we’re going to be getting the opportunity to ask them any time soon.” She sighed.
A silence filled the room as she tried to think of a way to get the two of them out of there but wasn’t anything coming to mind.
“Hey does it feel like it’s getting warmer in here to you?” He said breaking the silence.
She looked at him and realized she did feel warmer than she did when she had woken up.
Her eyes scanned the room once again and she could just make out what appeared to be a thermostat near the top of the ceiling on the wall in front of her and she bit back a scoff.
“It’s 95 degrees in here and from the looks of it, it will be rising.” Wednesday says.
“Bastards trying to cook us!?” Tyler hissed.
Wednesday watches as he gets up limping around each corner of the room once again to see if there was anyway out of there. Wednesday tries her cell of course, but she knew it wasn’t going to have a signal in this cage. The only way they were getting out of there was if someone either found them, or the stalker came back.
She wasn’t hopeful for either situation.
-
Wednesday was drenched in sweat cursing herself for not bringing along Thing with her, he probably could’ve snuck through the vent that was now full on blasting heat into the sweatbox they were entrapped in.
She read the thermostat and almost cringed.
107 degrees.
She looked over at Tyler who had stripped down to nothing but his underwear, he was covered in sweat as well, his hair soaked looking like he had just jumped in a pool.
“I wouldn’t look over here too much Wen’s, only make you hotter.” He teased.
She scoffed.
She turned away from him facing the wall that she had been staring at for what must’ve been hours now.
“How are you still in all that black clothing doesn’t that attract even more heat?” He finally asked his throat sounding dry.
“I once survived 3 days in a Saharan dessert after Uncle Fester left me in a heist that didn’t go as planned, he was on baby sitting duty, safe to say he failed the heist and the baby sitting.” She bluntly replied. “But it did teach me how to survive extreme heat without water.” She shrugged.
She could only hear him laugh followed by a quiet “Of course.”
-
By this time Wednesday was digging in her small satchel that she had brought with her for any type of gauze to alleviate the pain and bleeding in her leg.
“You wouldn’t happen to have water in that thing would you?” He scratchily said.
“If I did, don’t you think I would’ve pulled it out when it reached 110 degrees?” She retorted.
“Fair point, how’s the leg?” He asked.
“Very broken.” She curtly replied as she found the gauze and pulled up her pant leg only to see her bone partially exposed.
“Damn Wen’s.” He said sounding shocked that her injury was that serious and she had barely even groaned.
“I’ve survived worse.” She bluntly said as she began wrapping it.
“Well you might not be the smartest detective but you are definitely one of the most toughest girls I've ever met.” He admitted.
“I don’t need your praise.” She bit back.
“Just an observation calm down.” He rolled his eyes.
She ignored him as she continued dressing her wound wondering how everything lead to this situation.
-
By the time it reached 120 degrees she was so hot that she had forgotten all about the pain in her leg as her headache only grew worse.
She couldn’t even move at this point if she wanted too.
“Wen’s you still alive over there?” His voice was barely audible.
“Mhmm unfortunately this is not the imaginative death I hoped for.” She said.
“How the hell are you not scared right now?” His voice sounded irritable. “We’re gonna die down here ya know.”
“We all die eventually.” She said.
“Wow Wednesday I took you for a lot of things, but a quitter?” He bitterly said.
Her patience was growing thin and the heat wasn’t helping at all.
“Can you please stop looking at me as if I have all the answers!? I’m just as trapped in here as you!” Wednesday bit back.
“Oh so you can read Italian instructions, Go Bruce Lee on 3 boys, Kidnap and torture me, defeat a resurrected pilgrim, and take down a evil mastermind, but finding a way out of a metal box is too hard for you!?” Tyler snaps.
“My leg is broken!” She bites back.
“Sure it isn’t just your heart?” He shoots back catching her completely off guard.
“What?” This time she does turn to him.
He looks tired and defeated.
“Your smarter than this and you know it-”
“How do you find the need to tell me about myself when you don’t even know who you are, I mean who am I talking to now? Tyler or Hyde?” She bites back bitterly.
He looks hurt at those words but shakes it off and goes to reply but not before the sound of the heat shuts off along with all of the lights, but one.
“What was that-”
Before he could finish the sound of the vent roared back to life and they were immediately met with cool air.
“Thank God.” Tyler sighed.
“Save the joy, we’re still not out of here.” She observes.
She looked over at the thermometer on the wall and deeply frowned.
She knew it.
“Looks like since they couldn’t cook us, they’re trying freezing us to death.” She stated.
His eyes widened, “What?”
“The temperatures dropping at an alarming rate and it’s not slowing down.”
-
Wednesday watched the temperature drop further and further until she could finally see her breath in front of her.
Tyler of course had put back on every single piece of clothing he had stripped out of and she was pretty sure she had a serious concussion at this point because she was almost disappointed.
“What’s the temperature?” His voice quivering with how cold it was in there.
“0 degrees.”
“Guess this is the perfect temperature for your cold dead heart right?” He quipped.
“Do you want me to stab you?” Wednesday asks.
“Probably be quicker than freezing to death.” He shrugged.
“I really hate you you know?” Wednesday says her eyes shut as she lays her head back against the wall.
“Not sure if that’s a good hate or a bad hate with you, so thank you.” He said.
-
At 20 below she wasn’t sure how long they had been in this cage, what day it was, or even the day of the month.
Time was slowing down and so was their lives.
Her eyes met only the ceiling as she layed flat on her back fighting all the regrets that piled up in the back of her mind.
“Wednesday.”
That voice sounded really far.
“Wednesday.”
Tyler’s words only echoed in her mind “Sure it isn’t just your heart?”
“WEDNESDAY!” The voice literally shook her out of her stupor as she felt a pair of oddly warm hands on each side of her head shaking her out of her trance.
“Huh?” She said her eyes adjusting to see Tyler hovering over her face etched in worry.
“Thank God your still alive, You scared the hell out of me!” He said his voice full of relief. ”You gotta stay awake alright?”
She nodded as she scooted away from his embrace and he released his hands from her face.
They both looked at each other in silence for a few moments before Wednesday spoke, her mind was foggy, her leg broken, but her bleeding heart must’ve been the worst to let these words come out of her mouth.
“I’m sorry, I don’t think I can help you.” She said shakily.
He looked confused for a minute until he understood, “Wedn-
“No, you were right, I'm not a great detective, but i’m smart..least I thought I was until you showed up.” She laughed pitifully.
“Wednesday-”
“I wasn’t supposed to be one of those girls, the clueless, head over heels girl who ignores all common sense just because she has a crush.” She shook her head the nausea filling her stomach.
She watches as he shakes her head, “It wasn’t your fault I lied to you.”
“No, but I should’ve seen through it.” She argues.
“Sometimes I found myself believing my own lies, so how could you possibly see anything different than what I showed you?” He questioned.
She said nothing as her vision blurred once again almost causing her to black back out until she felt Tyler shake her back awake.
“Wednesday, you’ve gotta stay awake alright? We’ll figure this out if you just stay awake alright?” He said his tone sounding as desperate as he looked.
She couldn’t even nod a response this time.
“Hey, Hey! How about you ask me questions then? You asked earlier who you were talking too right? It’s me Tyler, The real Tyler, ask me any question and I'll answer it truthfully.” He suggested his tone prodding as he shook her a few more times.
“How will I know your not just lying again?” Wednesday asked.
“Trust?” He posed knowing that was a flimsy response considering everything he had done, but he had to keep her awake some how.
“Nice try, reach in my satchel.” Wednesday said.
He looked at her confused but grabbed the satchel anyway and started rummaging through it, “What am I looking for?”
“Should be a little box and a few suctions attached.”
He reached around in the satchel until he felt the box and pulled it out completely shocked at what he saw.
“What the hell is this??” He said stunned.
“Polygraph test machine, hook yourself up.” She instructed.
“You cannot be serious right now.” He said beyond floored.
All she did was dully blink in response.
“How do you have this and not a bottle of water!?” He exclaimed.
“I wasn’t taking any chances with you after you backstabbed me so I borrowed it from my Cousin Itt.” She explained like it was the most natural thing in the world.
He sighed deciding arguing would get them no where and began hooking himself up.
-
“Alright first question.” Wednesday says holding the polygraph box as she stared directly at Tyler her piercing black eyes captivating him per usual.
He nodded.
“What’s your name?” She asked.
“Tyler Galpin.” He said without hesitation.
He could see her examining the polygraph, satisfied that at least he hadn’t lied about his name.
“What’s your age?”
“17.” He said. “April 12th.”
She examined the polygraph again and nodded, “Happy Birthday.” She said void of emotion and he laughed a little remembering her views on birthdays.
“Birthday yes, Happy? Not today.” He said.
She nodded in agreement.
“Okay now the tougher questions.” Wednesday takes a breath and so does he.
She debates a minute, in this moment she could ask him anything she possibly wanted, who all worked with Laurel? What did he know about his mom? Was he affiliated in anyway with her new stalker?
But none of these interested her like the questions she had deep down in her blackened heart.
“What was your first impression of me?” She asks suddenly.
He looks at her almost stunned that she asked him that, but he quickly regains his composure and answers.
“Where the hell did she come from?” He answered.
“Second Impression?” He followed up.
“How can I make her stay?” He answered swiftly.
She felt her heart rate quicken at that but quickly glanced down at the polygraph strangely relieved that it stayed in a flat line.
“Because of Laurel?” She questioned.
“Because I liked you, I didn’t know your connection to laurel until later.” He admitted.
The line remained flat.
She didn’t know that, she just assumed he had always known she was detrimental to Laurel’s plan and had played her from the beginning.
But according to this test that wasn’t true.
“You once told me you did a terrible thing, but you swear your not a terrible person, do you really believe that after everything you did?” She questions.
He looked hesistant to answer as he visibly debated his answer within his mind.
“Yes.” He answered. “Me and Hyde are two different entities Wednesday.” He said.
The line remain flat.
“If that’s true, why didn’t you fight harder not to be taken over?” She felt herself growing angry, she wanted a reason to call him out, all of his answers being truthful was not the outcome she fore sought, the monsters that confronted her at the police station had to be there in some capacity, He was covered in blood when he approached her in the woods, there’s no way he escaped without killing more people.
Where was that person?
“Once a Hyde has a master it’s nearly impossible to fight back Wednesday, you know that-”
“What about the people you murdered to get to me, Laurel wasn’t controlling you for that!?” She snaps.
“I- I have no memory of that.” He says looking visibly disturbed at that.
The line remain flat.
“This thing has got to be broken.” She huffs in frustration.
“I’m not lying Wednesday-”
“FINE, let’s change the format, True or False.” She quips watching him nearly flinch at her exasperated and oddly anger filled voice.
He can only nod.
“True or False, Your a liar.”
“True.”
Line remains flat.
“True or false, Your a serial killing monster.”
He sighs. “True.”
“True or False, You manipulated me into actually caring about you, only to stab me in the back.”
“Wednesday I didn’t mean-”
“TRUE OR FALSE??” She yells.
He sighs
“True.”
The line remains flat.
She didn’t even realize how heavy her breathing had gotten until she looks at all the air she could visibly see due to the plummeting temperatures in their prison.
She shook her head ashamed that even in a freezing room, He could still managed to make her blood boil in complete rage.
She hated this.
She hated him.
But she asked the one question she had wanted to ask since the very beginning.
“True or False, None of what ever happened between us was ever real.” She asked almost not wanting the answer, almost ready to turn off the polygraph and continue freezing to death like she had originally planned, least that way the hypothermia could lull her into a peaceful bliss before her heart took her out completely.
There was a pregnant pause and she thought he just wouldn’t answer until-
“False.” He said barely above a whisper, but it was there.
She stared at him eyes wide searching his eyes for any deception that would give her any reason to claw them out but she found none.
She hesitated and then looked down.
The line remained flat.
She shook her head in disbelief, “No.”
“Wednesday-”
“NO, this isn’t-”
“It’s real Wednesday, And so is what we had.” He said suddenly grabbing her hands she didn’t realize was shaking.
She blamed the hypothermia.
“Why aren’t you freezing?” She questions still surprised with how warm his hands were even though it was below freezing in here.
“I don’t know, must be a Hyde thing, but look Wednesday all those things were true, Yes I lied to you, I hurt a lot of innocent people, ruined a lot of families, all of that destroyed me and will probably haunt me the rest of what’s left of my life, but watching you run away from me that night after we kissed-” He paused and shook his head before continuing.
“That nearly killed me.”
All she could do was stare shaking her head in completely disbelief.
“Watching the most fearless, unapologetic and beautiful girl I've ever seen fall for all my lies, was like drowning in slow motion. I kept wishing for a life jacket, while slowly pulling you down with me. And there hasn’t been a day since where I haven’t regretted what I did.” He said tears escaping his eyes but freezing on his face before they could even reach the ground.
She didn’t know how to respond to any of that so she asked one last question.
“True or False, You Love Me?” She asked.
“True, Always True.” He breathed out effortlessly.
She didn’t even bother looking down at the test this time.
She gives the smallest of smiles with a nod as he suddenly places both hands back on each side of her face and pulls her into a deep kiss that immediately sends heat running through her body.
Her minds is a confused mess, but if nothing else made sense in this moment, this definitely felt right.
She returned the kiss and couldn’t help but smiling in between gaining a chuckle from him as his thumbs caressed her cheeks just as they had before.
The kiss was soon interrupted by the sound of the vent blasting air shutting off and the lights immediately flickering back on nearly blinding the two of them before the ceiling opened up and another flashlight nearly blinded them.
“Tyler, Addams, What the hell are you two doing down here!?” Sheriff Galpin suddenly yelled. “And how the hell did you get out of custody!?” The Sheriff said eyeing his son.
“We’ll explain everything, but first, can you get us out of here and maybe take me to a hospital? ” Wednesday groans mad that once again Tyler’s dad had ruined the moment.
