Work Text:

Airi gently slammed her pen on the table, holding her brute strength back just at the last second. She didn’t need to fit a trip to a furniture store into her already jam packed schedule.

“Why is it so hard to say no to these offers! These assholes don’t know how to be considerate of our time… giving us offers we can’t refuse and piling even more work on us, someone make it end PLEASE!” She flopped over the table in a very theatrical way, earning a small giggle from the girl across from her.

“Airi-chan, you know you don’t really mean that.” Shizuku’s airy voice soothed Airi’s soul in a way that she’d rather commit grand theft auto before admitting to.

“I know, I know. Industry Gods please don’t abandon us now! I am merely a fool who doesn’t know anything she’s talking about, please forgive my treacherous actions!” Her words were muffled from being face planted on the table, not wanting to look at the paper radiating the darkest energy she has ever been around.

“Let’s take a break then, and pray that my precious Airi-chan isn’t punished by the Gods.”

Hurk.

Precious.

Airi looked up from the table to see that Shizuku was no longer across from her, having moved as fast as she made her heart beat. Before she could even look for her, she felt weight against her right side, and hair brushing up against her neck.

“Let’s just relax like this for a bit.” Shizuku’s words were loud, but not as loud as the thumping in Airi’s chest.

“Y-Yeah… I won’t be able to get any work done in this state.” She won’t be able to even consider working on her schedule for the rest of the night.

She needs a distraction, something that will prevent her from having a heart attack in the next few seconds.

She fumbled around for her phone, hoping that she’ll open any of her social media apps to see a cute cat that will give her a momentary break from reality.

She turned on her phone to see new missed messages, one from Minori checking in on their progress, and one from Ayumi.

“I’m glad to see that you and Ayumi-chan are talking again.” Airi flinched at the silence suddenly being broken, almost dropping her phone onto the floor. She silently prayed that Shizuku didn’t notice how much of a girlfail she is right now.

“Yeah, I am too.” Airi turned to look at the unfairly beautiful idol clinging onto her like a koala. As she stared at her for longer than she should, she recalled the words of encouragement she gave to her when she was lost.

And if someday there’s something that makes us begin to drift apart, Airi-chan…

The kindness and warmth I felt from you. I’m sure it will never disappear.

“It’s because of you, Shizuku. If you hadn’t reassured me about our bond, I don’t think I would’ve been able to take that first step.” The blue idol sat up and stared at Airi with a troubled look on her face.

“About that…”

“Shizuku? What’s wrong?”

“I’m glad what I said helped you Airi-chan, but I don’t feel like what I said was enough.” Airi didn’t know what to think of this.

She had found so much strength in what Shizuku said, yet she doubts her own words?

“Shizuku… what you said was enough-“

“Not for me.” She met Airi’s eyes with an intense look, one she had only seen once before when she had dared to insult herself in Shizuku’s presence. “Airi-chan, there was much more I wanted to say and do to reassure you, so please, may I have the opportunity to do so now?”

Airi took a deep breath in, scared out of her mind. Shizuku can say and do some insane things from time to time, and just when she thought it couldn’t get more insane she is proven wrong each time.

Airi gave her nod of approval, bracing herself for whatever could be thrown her way.

Shizuku didn’t speak immediately, she instead moved her legs so that she was on only one knee.

Wait.

Kneeling down on only one knee…?

Huh?

Shizuku reached into her pocket and pulled out a tiny box, which Airi could only stare at.

She couldn’t think. There was nothing going on in her mind. The only coherent thought is a big “WHAT THE FUCK” in Impact font.

“Airi-chan.” Shizuku only got a squeak in response. “It’s not enough for me to just say I will carry the warmth and kindness you gave me even if we’re apart… words can only go so far. That’s why… I want to give you this ring.” She opened the tiny box, revealing a ring with a blue gem on top.

Airi damn near croaked like the king in Shrek 3.

She could only stare at Shizuku.

What is this… what’s going on… is this a proposal? Why does she look so beautiful right now? Why is she in a suit now, where did that come from? WHY ARE THERE ROSES FLOATING AROUND HER NOW?! WHEN WAS HER HAIR IN A PONYTAIL?!

She smacked herself to bring her mind back down to reality. Instead of the very princely image her mind concocted, she saw a very worried Shizuku still on one knee.

“Shizuku… You didn’t have to go this far to reassure me.” Airi started moving closer to her, getting carpet burn on her knees since she refuses to stand up on wobbly legs.

“It’s not just for you…” Shizuku set down the box in front of her, and pulled a similar one out of her pocket. Inside was the same ring, but with a pink gem. She slid it onto her ring finger on her left hand, and gently smiled at it. “It’s also to reassure myself that even if we’re apart, our bond will never waver.”

Airi picked up the box on the floor and took a good look at the ring. It was obviously plastic, since internet idols don’t have that much money to spend, but she could still feel the amount of love and care Shizuku has for her radiating from it.

She handed the box back to Shizuku, then stuck out her left hand towards her. At first Shizuku was puzzled, but then her face perked up when she realized what Airi wanted her to do.

Or at least, what she thought she wanted her to do.

The extra step of kissing Airi’s hand and making her nearly die on the spot was a welcomed addition, but not the intention.

Shizuku slid the ring onto Airi’s ring ringer and took a nice, long look at it. “Now, even if we start to doubt our own words, we can look at these and reassure ourselves things won’t change between us so easily.”

“We’re saying all this like we’ll ever spend a day apart.”

“That’s true! I want to spend every day by my Airi-chan’s side!” Shizuku took the opportunity to glomp onto Airi’s side again, and to do a side by side comparison of their hands. “Hmm… I hope one day I’m able to buy a real ring for you.”

Airi nearly coughed up blood.
