Work Text:
Jinx groaned and dragged herself out of her bed, shivers running up her body as her feet hit the cold floor.
She felt around for her phone on her nightstand, flicking on the light and squinting at the brightness.
Despite how tired she was, she couldn’t sleep. One because it was cold, and two because she just couldn’t.
Both of those things could be helped.
She cracked her door open, peaking both ways in down the hall before tip toeing out, careful not to step on any of the creaky floorboards. She made her way down to Lux’s room, stopping at the door.
Sometimes she felt bad barging in, but Lux had told her she didn’t mind at all. But Lux also made it clear it was nothing more than for better sleep, and because they were best friends.
But also, that it was top secret. Lux didn’t want any of the other guardians thinking anything of it, and honestly, Jinx didn’t want them knowing either. She’d totally get made fun of.
She knew it wasn’t normal that they still slept together as teenagers. She knew she had feelings for Lux, and she knew Lux felt the same, though she refused to talk about it or do anything real about it. Jinx really didn’t think being leader of their team was a good enough reason.
Whatever. She was to tired to question all of Lux’s reasons. Whatever they may be, Jinx trusted her, and was just glad to have her.
She took a deep breath and quietly knocked, hoping Lux wasn’t already asleep. She waited a second before hearing the faint ‘come in’ from the other side of the door.
As she was almost every night, Lux was still up doing homework. With the amount of Star Guardian buisness they’d been attending to, homework had been piling up. Jinx didn’t bother with it.
“Hey.” Jinx greeted quietly, shutting the door behind her.
Lux didn’t take her eyes off her thick stack off paper, but still smiled a little.
“Hey.”
“Mind if I crash in here?”
Lux shut her book and spun around with smile.
“You know I don’t. I’ll be done in a sec, you get comfortable.”
Jinx hummed, walking up to her and looking over her head to the pages of history work. She didn’t get how Lux managed to do all of it.
“Come on you’ve done enough of that, and I’m freezin’.” Jinx said snatching Lux’s pencil and tossing it behind her.
Lux leaned her head back, looking up at Jinx’s smirk and sighing.
“Fine. I’ll finish catching up tomorrow. You really need to get started on yours or you’re going to fail.” Lux said, flicking Jinx’s forehead before sitting forward, stacking her things and switching the lamp off.
“Come on, dibs on big spoon.” Lux smiled brushing past Jinx who chuckled a little.
“I think being short requires you to be the little spoon.” Jinx joked falling down on to her side of Lux’s bed.
“Too bad. You’re the one who’s cold.” Lux said, climbing into her bed and switching off the light. Jinx adjusted herself, back facing Lux and letting the smell of her fill her head.
Even though all of the mattresses in the house technically the same, Lux’s always felt more comfortable.
Lux tucked in behind her, wrapping her arms around Jinx’s waist and nuzzling the back of Jinx’s neck. Even though she was used to it, Jinx still felt goosebumps crawl over her skin, in the best way possible. She smiled to herself.
She reached down to hold on to Lux’s hands that were laced around her. She didn’t really hold them as much as she played around with her fingers.
“Jinx neither of us are going to get any sleep if you do that.” Lux whispered into her back.
“Sorry, m’just happy.”
“Mmm’, me too but I’d like some sleep.”
Jinx flipped around to face Lux, leaning their foreheads together.
“I’d sleep a whole lot better with a kiss g’night.” Jinx smirked
“Jinx, you know we can’t.”
“We aren’t supposed to do this either.”
“This can be argued as friendly. And every time we do you’re terrible at hiding it.”
She wasn’t wrong. Jinx did kind of make it obvious something was up. She wouldn’t stop smiling and was a little meaner to everyone other than Lux.
“You sure? Cause last time you were the one askin’ me, and we ended up making ou-“
Lux leaned forward, gently kissing her and bringing her hand up to hold Jinx’s face. Jinx smiled into the kiss, which didn’t last long, but long enough.
“Good?” Lux asked
“Very. One more?”
Lux smiled and playfully shoved her.
“Turn around. We have school in the morning.”
