Chapter 1: I Clash Myself To This Merciless Wall

Chapter Text

Yeji, contract killer extraordinaire, stood tall in the dimly lit room, her cold gaze fixated on the trembling figure before her. The politician, a man of power and influence, was now reduced to a mere hostage in Yeji's calculated game. Her presence alone emanated an aura of darkness and fear, transforming the atmosphere into a chilling prison of uncertainty. The room itself seemed to have fallen under Yeji's spell, as if bending to her will. A nightmare, straight out of a horror flick. It reeked of fear, making the spine tingle and the heart race.

Gloomy darkness swallowed everything, swallowing up hope and casting doubt on every glimmer of light. The flickering bulb above seemed to be gasping its last breath, barely illuminating the chilling tableau. Yeji's eyes, sharp as daggers, pierced through the gloom, sending shivers down the hostage's spine. Sinister shapes played wicked games along the walls, twisting and contorting like demented spectres. The air was thick with a palpable sense of doom, as if Death himself was lurking in the shadows, grinning with anticipation.

This was Yeji's domain, where nightmares became reality, and brave souls crumbled. She revelled in the terror she had conjured, each detail a stroke of her twisted genius. The furniture cowered under the weight of her presence, as if begging for mercy. It was a symphony of fear, with Yeji as the conductor, directing every crescendo and terrifying crescendo.

The room seemed to conspire against the hostage, squeezing tighter and tighter, like a boa constrictor ready to crush its prey. The very floor seemed to shift, the walls closing in with an insidious intent. Yeji relished in the power she held over this once-powerful man, savouring the taste of his desperation. In her dark realm, she was the puppeteer, and the hapless politician danced to her tune, his soul teetering on the precipice of oblivion.

“Fifteen billion won.” Yeji mumbled. “H-Huh?” The politician asked, fear emanating from his voice, quite the obvious. "They paid me fifteen billion won to kill you. It seems your enemies were more than willing to dig deep into their pockets for the privilege of seeing you meet your demise.” The politician's eyes widened, a mix of fear and curiosity flickering within them.

Intrigued despite her cold and emotionless nature, Yeji relished in the power she held over this man. Money had a peculiar allure, even to someone as detached as her. It was a game within the game, a tangible symbol of her success as she played the deadly role of executioner. A wicked glint danced in her eyes as she watched the politician squirm under the weight of his impending doom. She took a step back, allowing the suspense to grow, knowing that anticipation could be far more tormenting than any physical pain she could inflict.

But Yeji was not one to settle for mere psychological torment. With a flick of her wrist, she produced a small blade, its polished surface glimmering in the dim light. Slowly, deliberately, she traced the sharp edge along the politician's arm, leaving a thin trail of crimson in its wake. His stifled cries only fuelled her sadistic pleasure, a testament to her control over his very existence.

The room became a theatre of agony as Yeji toyed with her prey, alternating between moments of intense pain and fleeting respite. Each tormenting act was carefully calculated, designed to break the man's spirit and push him to the brink of insanity. She revelled in the symphony of his suffering, her heart devoid of empathy as she danced between life and death.

Finally, when the politician's strength had waned to a mere whisper, when his will to survive had crumbled like a house of cards, Yeji delivered the final blow. With ruthless efficiency, she ended his torment, her eyes reflecting nothing but the emptiness of her purpose. The room, once a theatre of fear and dread, now held the aftermath of her lethal performance.

Yeji meticulously cleaned the remnants of her macabre masterpiece, erasing any trace of her presence from the dark room. Every action carried an air of methodical precision, a testament to her discipline and the unwavering focus she possessed. Once satisfied that her grisly work had been concealed, she left the scene behind, stepping out into the night with an ethereal grace.

Yeji made her way to her secluded home, a sanctuary where she could retreat from the relentless chaos of her profession. The walls whispered her name as she entered, a silent witness to the life she led and the shadows she embraced. Her footsteps echoed through the empty corridors, each one carrying the weight of a thousand unspoken emotions. In the heart of her home, Yeji found her twin brother, Hyunjin, waiting with a seething resentment that seemed etched into his very being. His eyes, once mirrors of shared existence, now held a glacial detachment as he relayed their parents' message. “They're holding a dinner,” he began, his voice dripping with icy disdain. “They want you there.”

Yeji’s parents, ah, a lifelong source of neglect and indifference. The scars of favouritism ran deep, always casting her into the shadow of her brother. She stood there, the weight of her existence heavy upon her shoulders, as the memories of a childhood tainted by parental neglect flooded her mind. Yeji had always been the invisible one, while her parents showered Hyunjin with attention and praise. They had molded him into their golden child, the one who must shine at all costs, while she languished in the shadows, an afterthought.

Yeji had embraced the darkness that dwelled within her, while Hyunjin embodied the polished facade their parents craved. Hyunjin, ever the dutiful son, revelled in the opportunity to deliver their parents' message, relishing the power it bestowed upon him. He revelled in her discomfort, the knowledge that she had always been the outsider in their perfect family dynamic. With an air of detachment, Yeji nodded, accepting the invitation she knew she couldn't refuse. Their parents' desire for appearances to be upheld was an old refrain, a painful reminder of her place in the family's narrative. But she had long learned to wear the mask of compliance, to suppress her true self beneath layers of deception.

Hyunjin was more than glad to get out of that dingy apartment. Yeji glanced at her Casio. It was still ten in the morning. She got ready for her shift. After leaving behind the confines of her home, Yeji donned her disguise, blending seamlessly into the bustling streets as she made her way to her daytime job as a barista at Starbucks. Behind the counter, she transformed into a different persona, a smile plastered on her face as she expertly crafted beverages for the steady stream of customers.

As the hours ticked by, a woman entered the cafe, her presence commanding attention. Her eyes met Yeji's. The woman's playful demeanour tugged at the corners of Yeji's stoic expression, and a genuine smile curled upon her lips. In this brief moment, the frost that enveloped her heart thawed ever so slightly. The woman sat down on a nearby table and didn’t seem to want to get up. She sat there relaxed. Time passed, and as Yeji removed her apron, she approached the woman who had caught her attention earlier.

A rush of warmth enveloped her as they locked eyes, and the woman—Chaeryeong—happily embraced her, their connection undeniable. Chaeryeong's vibrant spirit brought colour into Yeji's monochrome existence, igniting a flicker of life in the depths of her hardened soul. “Hey you.” Chaeryeong grinned, showing that gummy smile Yeji loved. She kissed her cheek, delighted to see her girlfriend after a busy week.

Yeji, though still cloaked in her cold and emotionless demeanour, harboured a love that defied her stoicism. It was a love that transcended words, a quiet devotion that burned deep within her. With each passing moment in Chaeryeong's presence, a profound tenderness blossomed, a fragile thread connecting her to a world beyond the shadows she embraced.

“Hey,” Yeji mumbled, kissing the shorter woman’s forehead. 2Good start to your day?” “Mmh-hhmm.” Chaeryeong sat Yeji down in front of her. Yeji looked at her girlfriend of five months. Chaeryeong, a radiant presence in Yeji's life, possessed an aura that commanded attention wherever she went. Her eyes, shimmering with a mischievous glint, mirrored the infectious warmth that radiated from her very core. Each smile that graced her lips held the power to dissolve even the most frigid of barriers, drawing people into her orbit with an irresistible magnetism.

They had met at a club, where Yeji had just finished off a celebrity, and was wishing to unwind in the club’s bar. The girl who bumped into her had jet black hair, wore am off shoulder leather top and velvet black shorts, and completed that look with black fancy boots. The girl did apologize even when drunk, and went back to dancing. Her spirit, untamed and free, seemed to dance to a melody only she could hear, infusing every moment with a vibrant energy that electrified the air. Yeji gulped her drink down, never removing her eyes off the woman as she walked up to her. The woman's laughter, a symphony of joy, echoed through the spaces they occupied, a testament to her unyielding zest for life. In her presence, the world felt brighter, lighter, as if the weight of its burdens momentarily lifted.

That plus a one night stand equalled to Chaeryeong falling for this mysterious woman. Not like Yeji could ever resist her. Even with all the ignoring and avoidance. Five months went by and Yeji, for the first time in her life couldn’t keep track. She was happy, and she didn’t feel like measuring her happiness. Perhaps that was the effect Chaeryeong had on her. She broke their comfortable silence. “My parents have arranged a dinner,” she stated, her eyes searching Chaeryeong's face for any flicker of hesitation. But Chaeryeong's eyes lit up, a glimmer of excitement dancing within them.

“Finally! And here I thought I’m not meeting them for another year or something. Is your twin brother going to be there too?” Yeji shrugged, hinting a yes, trying to show indifference. And Chaeryeong caught onto that. “You….don’t want him coming…?” Yeji sat up properly. “It’s quite the opposite Chae. Forget it. Just…….dress up fancy. My parents are affluent, wealthy socialites and they love people acknowledging that.” Yeji was ridiculously nonchalant about it so Chaeryeong knew better than to question that. She shrugged and then smiled. “I'd love to go with you, Yeji.”

Yeji nodded, acknowledging Chaeryeong's agreement with a slight tilt of her head. The contrast between her lover's vibrant spirit and her own icy demeanour remained stark, a paradox that defined their relationship. But beneath the surface, a delicate balance teetered, where Yeji's love for Chaeryeong endured, silently and unyielding. “Great.” Yeji muttered and got up, “I’m getting back to my shift. I’ll pick you up at seven. We’ll probably going to a restaurant anyway.” She was about to walk away when Chaeryeong called her. “Yah!” Yeji turned around to be met with lips on hers. A disgusting smooch that she always denied loving. So Yeji opened her mouth and deepened her kiss, because her girlfriend would not have left her alone till then. Chaeryeong giggled into the kiss and pulled back, running a hand through her sexy brown hair. “I’ll see you in the evening.”

“Yep.” Yeji mumbled and saw her girlfriend walk away with the world’s greatest sway in her hips. Yeji turned away before her junior could stir.
