Work Text:

Hux knows something isn't right. Kylo's been distant, looking for excuses to leave the bridge, or more often than not, their shared quarters. He doesn't know what he's done to deserve this type of treatment. They had been going steady for more than a few years, so Hux didn't know why he was suddenly distant.

He left it alone for a time, the nagging feeling in the back of his mind that he should do something, but then Kylo would think of him needy, too self centered. If Kylo wanted to live his life outside of Hux's view then so be it.

It was a regular cycle like any other. Officers busting down the hallways, the occasional calls from sister ships in the area to check in. It was quite peaceful, and Hux felt indulgent for a change.

Kylo hadn't been on the bridge all morning. He had mentioned training in the gym and must have gotten distracted. He stopped by the mess, figuring he would want to eat something. Grabbing a tray, he put some mush onto a plate and walked towards the training area.

The gym door opened for him automatically, stopping suddenly as he saw Kylo sitting on the floor, legs crossed and hand outstretched in front of him. He kept moving his hand further in front of him until Hux cleared his throat, not wanting to just stand there and watch Kylo do whatever it was he was doing.

"Kylo." he said louder than he had meant and Kylo startled, opening his eyes and looking as if he was guilty of something. He quickly got up and walked over to Hux. "What are you doing here?" Kylo said, a hint of anger in his voice, Hux didn't take the bait. "I grabbed some food for you from the Mess. You weren't on the bridge and I thought you needed a reminder."

"Why?" Kylo asked, taking the tray from him. No,'Oh Maker! Thank you Hux for making sure I don't starve myself' or 'Thank you Hux for thinking of me when I have barely acknowledged your existence!'  "I don't know what's going on Kylo, but I need you to tell me if something is wrong. You can trust me with anything. Now eat your food before it gets cold." With that he left, a bit more angry with himself than he was before.

It had been two weeks since the conflict in the gym, and Kylo still hadn't talked to him. Hux was almost at his wits end. So he did what he promised himself he would never do. He stalked him.

With over twenty five years in the academy, Hux was an expert at stalking his prey. Do a bit of research, a bit of digging, and you will soon find that people have a schedule. Kylo's was the gym, bridge, then his personal quarters. He trusted Kylo, mostly, but what if he was in danger or was in one of his depressed stages.

So Hux stood there on the bridge, going over his plan in his head. Sneak into Kylo's quarters, wait till he arrives then see if he did anything weird, then confront him. Nothing could go wrong, right? He sighed, hailing one of the Officers to take over the Bridge, and knowone batted an eye. He continued down the hallway to Kylo's room. He used his override access to get in, letting the door shut behind him.

Kylo's room had always been bare. The man hardly had anything of true possession beside his cowl and the weird vader mask. Hux sighed, focusing on the task at hand. He moved to the closet, squeezing himself in there and closing the door.

It took a bit, but he soon heard someone walk in, heavy boots tapping against the floor. He heard Kylo sigh, then sit down. Then he heard him speak. "You'know, these meetings are getting too frequent. Something has to happen. I think Snoke knows." Snoke? Snoke knows about what? Hux leaned towards the door, trying to keep listening.

"People have been getting suspicious here as well. Our last mission was too easy. You can't just call off the fleet mid-battle, it looks staged." A feminine voice muttered. Hux didn't understand. For one, There was knowone else in the room and yet heard her as clear as day. Secondly, he couldn't believe this is why Kylo had belayed him in response to telling the fleet to move forward. They had almost got them, wiped the Resistence off the face of the galaxy once and for all, but kylo had called it off, claiming they would lose even when the odds were in their favor.

Suddenly a burn of anger and betrayal flowed through him, deciding he had enough of this nonsense. So he got up and opened the closet door, falling onto the black metal floor. He looked up to see Kylo looking down at him, surprise and regret instant in his voice. "Hux, what are you-"

"No, you listen to me. I heard everything. I don't know where you're keeping this girl but that is besides the point. You have betrayed the Order, betrayed me-" Hux started, trying not to get emotional. All this time, and maybe he really never knew Kylo. "Hux just listen to me!" Kylo interrupted, grabbing his arm to keep him from leaving.

Hux felt something change, but he couldn't place it. He turned his head to look where Kylo was looking, only to lay his eyes upon the Scavenger. She looked real, but he swore knowone had been on the bed a second ago. He quickly got out of Kylo's grasp, pulling his blaster out and aiming where the Scavenger had been, and yet she wasn't there. Some sick part of his mind thought Kylo was messing with him, making him go insane.

"Hux you're not going insane, it's because you let go of me, see?" Kylo grabbed his arm again and Hux saw her once again, on Kylo's bed. His heart sank and jealousy rose in his chest. So it was true, all this time Kylo had been fraternizing with the enemy.

"Not only have you been avoiding me for a month so you can cheat on me with the Scavenger, but compromise the First Order as well. I just, I can't believe you." Hux staggered back, suddenly feeling trapped. Kylo looked ashamed, and yet the soft side of Hux still wanted to reach out and hold him, but he figured that he had the Scavenger to do that for him. He didn't NEED Hux.

"You were never meant to find out." he says as if it's okay. As if they can come back from this. As if Hux could understand why he did it. That only hurt him more. The fact that Kylo would have kept lying to him he either found out or Kylo killed him.

Hux ran out of the room, ignoring Kylo's pleas for him to come back, for them to talk as if any of that was normal. After everything....No, the Scavenger must be tainting his mind. The Order could fall apart if this was to continue. Hux had never liked going to Snoke without Kylo, but he seemed to be the only one who might be able to help. For the Order. For Kylo.

Notes:

I always hate Kylo in cheating scenarios, but I think this would be a really good misunderstanding. Him and Rey need to plan to take down Snoke , but not put Hux in danger, so lying to him about it is his best option.
