Work Text:

"For you,
My love
My breath
My light
My muse
And more"

Butter Pretzel Cookie let out a groan as she crumpled up the paper she was writing on and tossed it in the trash bin next to her. This was getting so frustrating! Why couldn't she write a simple love letter?! She was known for expressing beautiful detail through art, and yet now she couldn't even express her own feelings. How pathetic! You're pathetic, Butter Pretzel Cookie!

The artist slouched in her chair, holding her head in her hands. Just about a week ago, Cheesecake Cookie had asked her out on a date. A real date. An official one. Not just some hangout, not discussing art, not hanging out at a party... A real, genuine date.

This was like a dream for her. Ever since the two had met, Butter Pretzel Cookie was smitten with Cheesecake Cookie. "Perfect" didn't even begin to describe Cheesecake Cookie. She was more than perfect! If only Butter Pretzel Cookie were able to put it into words...

She looked back down at her work. Only a few pieces of the fancy stationery she bought remained. Had she really spent all this time writing letters? A sigh escaped Butter Pretzel Cookie as she tapped her pen against the desk, hoping the neurons in her brain would fire fast enough to create something suitable for someone like Cheesecake Cookie.

As this was happening, Butter Pretzel Cookie's mind wandered. She didn't exactly grow up the most financially stable, so spending money and hanging out with friends wasn't exactly an option for her. Not to mention, dates are completely different than just hanging out! At least, that's what she thought. Her imagination ran wild. Flashes of short scenes in her brain were firing themselves off like mad. A cafe date, a movie date, a dinner date... She wanted to do it all with her.

"Oh, out of all the places you go
The one place I want you to be most
Is in my arms"

That sounded even worse than the first one! Into the bin it went.

If it wasn't perfect... Then it would never be suitable for Cheesecake Cookie.

Another sigh. Butter Pretzel Cookie looked at her cracked phone, checking the time. It was... 2AM. She wondered what Cheesecake Cookie was doing at this hour. She was probably sleeping like it was no big deal...

Was that truly the case, though?

Cheesecake Cookie looked anxiously at her phone, opening the same 3 apps over and over again in a painful cycle. She couldn't sleep at all! She hasn't even chosen a location for their date! Of course, Butter Pretzel Cookie insisted that she was fine going anywhere... But that just won't do! Butter Pretzel Cookie is perfect, even more than perfect! She was so talented, and while she was a bit awkward, that just added to her charm! The two had to go to the perfect location-- only the best for the love of Cheesecake Cookie's life!

A movie date? That's the worst possible option for a first date. A fancy restaurant? She doesn't want to overwhelm Butter Pretzel Cookie! The park? What if animals ruin their perfect picnic?! Cheesecake Cookie stressed herself over every option. Whatever could go wrong just might go wrong...

If it wasn't perfect... Then it would never be suitable for Butter Pretzel Cookie.

The two tossed, turned and toiled over their problems until exhaustion took over their bodies. Having solved nothing, the two went to bed.

Morning came quicker than usual-- probably because the two stayed up until 2AM trying to prepare for a date. Butter Pretzel Cookie looked at the clock, ready for whatever Cheesecake Cookie wanted to do.

10AM. 12PM. 1PM. Time flew by with no response from her.

At 3PM, there was finally a text.

"Pretzie babyyyyyy I dunno where we should go on our dateeeeee"

The words crashed into her like a freight train. Cheesecake Cookie, master party planner, didn't know where to go on a date? Butter Pretzel Cookie had to get to the bottom of this. She put on her worst coat and immediately went running to the decadent Cheesecake mansion.

"PRETZIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" Cheesecake Cookie noticed Butter Pretzel Cookie at the gates of her house. She ran to embrace her datemate. "I'm so sorry... I've failed you! I'm never gonna be able to look at you ever again!"

Butter Pretzel Cookie looked back at Cheesecake Cookie in shock. What on Earthbread was she talking about?

"Uh..." Butter Pretzel opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out.

Cheesecake Cookie looked up at Butter Pretzel Cookie. "I'm so, so, so, so, so, so, SO sorry..."

"N-No... I should apologize too," Butter Pretzel Cookie began to speak, "I wanted to write you a letter, but I couldn't figure out the words... I wanted to express my gratitude for you, and I couldn't even write a single word I wanted to keep."

"You did...? That's so sweet of you...!" Cheesecake Cookie responded. "Even if you didn't finish it, I'm so happy..."

As if on cue, Cheesecake Cookie got on her tiptoes and gave Butter Pretzel Cookie a kiss.

This kills the woman. Butter Pretzel Cookie's heart raced, her face warmed with a bright red...

Cheesecake Cookie spoke again. "I... I love you, Butter Pretzel Cookie. Even if we couldn't go out properly today, I just wanted to say... That I love you."

Butter Pretzel Cookie was flabbergasted. Unable to think of anything else to say, instinct took over. "I-I love you too..." She whispered.

This was the worst possible way either of them could have confessed. The two had imagined something way more... dramatic. You know, like being on an actual date.

"What do we do now?" Butter Pretzel Cookie asked.

Cheesecake Cookie pulled away from Butter Pretzel Cookie. "Ah, I dunno..." She responded.

This was great. Now things were getting awkward between the two of them.

"Well, if you can't come up with anything..." Butter Pretzel Cookie blushed, "I would still love to spend time with you."

Cheesecake Cookie smiled. "I would love that, too!"

The two spent the rest of the day inside, but... Everything felt different. Butter Pretzel Cookie assumed it was because the two were no longer patron and artist, but instead... Lovers.

Yeah, lovers. That sounded perfect.

More than perfect.
