Izuku is horrified.
He didn't mean to eavesdrop on Tomura like that, he didn't mean to hear all those…bad stuff come out of his friends' mouths. And he especially didn't mean to hear their 'plans' for him, or were most of them a joke? He wasn't sure. He wasn't sure of anything anymore.
He just wanted to return the coat Tomura left, that was all! How the hell did it lead to this!?
"Izuku!" He ignored the frantic calls of his mother, it was too late for her to meddle now.
As much as he loved his mother to the bone, she didn't know what his world looked like. She didn't know how things worked in his life. She didn't know what danger he just brought upon them.
"And all because you wouldn't admit it." Izuku's face scrunched, the echo of the door slamming played in his head – but that voice, that irritating and haunting voice, was clear as day.
"I get it, okay?" He snapped at the ghostly blond, turning to glare at him weakly. "I– I fucked up real bad."
Katsuki whistled, his brows raising. "Now you know shit's gettin' real." He smirked, leaning by the window with folded arms.
Izuku groaned, pulling at his hair and pacing the hero-filled bedroom. The bright colors were irritating to look at, and all the All Might posters with their signature grin only made the twist in his gut tighten. The black coat he still wore lost it's comforting presence, instead replaced with dread and a chill in his bone.
Despite that, he didn't make a move to remove it.
He didn't want to.
There was nothing he could do now. Tomura knew where he lived, he knew the perfect way to sneak into his room, he knew every fault in their house that he could use to his advantage. He knew everything.
"This is bad…" Izuku muttered under his heaving breaths, his mind getting foggy and vision glazing. He was in panic mode right now. Tomura could come for him at any time, and he wouldn't know how to protect himse– no, he wouldn't know how to face him without wanting to curl into a ball and pretend that none of this was happening.
None of this should be happening. Everything is falling apart and he hates it.
Why couldn't today just be another normal day?
"Yup. And its about to get worst." Izuku snapped his head up at the words, brows furrowing at the unimpressed look on Katsuki's face as he stared out the window.
And then he saw it.
A silhouette making it's way to his room, scratching the glass of his window slightly as it fumbled to slide it open. Izuku felt his heart drop when he recognized the shadow, his legs moving on their own to find safety in the only place he knew. The closet.
"Knock, knock~!" Tomura sang in an unnaturally high tune, just about coming through the window when the closet door slammed to a close and Izuku put a chair against the knob. He could never be more thankful for his shortness.
"Sorry for coming through the window, sweetheart, but I thought it best that we talk things out privately." Now its back to normal, but with an underlying tone he couldn't identify…
So he kept quiet, unsure of what to reply.
"Look…I know things feel a little confusing right now, but you don't need to hide." Tomura coaxed, "Not from me."
Subconsciously, Izuku stepped back and hugged himself. Shaking his head as if he could wake from this bad dream.
"Please, sweetheart…" No, no, no, he's not falling for that.
"I can explain everything, you just need to open the door and let me." But that wouldn't excuse the lives they've taken, would it? The lives Tomura purposely made him take, and he was none the wiser.
Katsuki…Denki…Mineta…
They were bad kids, but they still had room to grow. To repent.
"If you wanted to come home with me, you should've asked. Its not good to spy on others, or even break into their room without them knowing." Well isn't that hypocritical.
"H-hey," Izuku tensed at the uncharacteristically desperate voice. "You know I was planning to tell you today, right after school. But that Ochaco character just had to take you away and ruin it, like she always do. Don't you see that she's worth your time? Your kindness? She's taking advantage of you."
He said nothing, but his brain was running miles as he tried to push the bad thoughts from his head. The thoughts that made him sound like a villain.
"Don't abandon me, Izuku. Not you too…" Goddamnit, curse his overly empathetic brain.
Izuku covered his ears in an attempt to drown out the sounds, but somehow everything was still coming in. And his continual lack of response seems to be the final straw for Tomura
"You left me there like I was trash, for that you should be DEAD—!" Izuku flinched at the drastic change of tone, "But! But! But! Then it hit me like a flash!"
CRASH!
"What if UA went away instead?" His eyes widened in horror, but a twisted part of his mind felt something else entirely.
"Those assholes are the key! Their worship keeps you away from me! They made you blind, messed up your mind – but I can set you free!" His mind went back to the times those 'hero' students neglect to give him credit for his work. All those long nights of fixing what they broke, and upgrading what is fine by itself, only for his talent to be stomped on.
"You left me and I fell apart, I punched the wall and cried—"
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Izuku's never witnessed himself jumping an inch into the air at the abrupt violence against his framed pictures; but for some reason, he couldn't bring himself to care about the damage other than Tomura's probably bleeding hand.
"Then I found you changed my heart, and set loose all that truthful shit inside! He hears some paper, probably his posters, being ripped off from the walls and crumpling from under Tomura's weight.
"And so, I built a bomb," The casual confession made Izuku gap, "Tonight our school is Vietnam!" His jaw slackened.
"Let's guarantee they'll never see their senior prom~!" If it were possible, Izuku's jaw would be on the floor right now.
"I was meant to be yours…" The sudden shift was like a slap on the face, and Tomura continued as if he didn't admit to planning a mass murder. "We were meant to be one~!" Well that isn't a cause for concern.
"Don't give up on me now! Finish what we begun!" Shit, none of this would be happening if Izuku hadn't helped Katsuki that fateful day.
"I was meant to be yours—" Uh-oh, he feels another shift…
"So when the UA gym goes BOOM!" Called it– wait, why is this suddenly a game?
"With everyone inside– Pchw! Pchw! Pchw!" That…actually sounded kinda cute.
The sound effect he means!
"In the rubble of their tomb," Oh right. Shit. "We'll plant this note explaining why they died!" Wait, what?
When Tomura started reading the note he spoke of, it was like he could hear everyone he knew –or is acquainted/enemies with– reading it too.
"We, the students of prestigious UA High– will die. Our burnt bodies may finally get through…to you. Your society churns out slaves and blanks, no thanks. Signed the Students of prestigious UA High…
'Goodbye.'"
Izuku's not even surprised at this point, "We'll watch the smoke poor out the doors. Bring marshmallows, we'll make s'mores!" Could've been a great picnic plan for a date.
"We can smile and cuddle while the fire roars!" That is…dangerous.
"I was meant to be yours…We were meant to be one~!" Are they really though? Because its starting to sound like…
"I can't make this alone! Finish what we've begun!" Izuku can hear solid footsteps approaching, loud and clear. He's long since forgotten to cover his ears as he sat against the wall opposite to the door.
"You were meant to be mine, I am all that you need!" But what about the few friends he managed to keep? what about them?
"You carved open my heart – can't just leave me to BLEED!" Uhhhhh…
"IZUKU!" Flinched hard at the aggressive and slightly manic call of his name. "Open the–open the door, please. Izuku, sweet, open the door."
The foreboding twist in his gut returned almost in an instant when the tone from the beginning returned. He could see Tomura's shadow under the crack of the door, facing right where he is.
"Izuku, hun, can we not fight anymore– please, can we not fight anymore?" Then pleading.
"Izuku, dear– sure, you're scared, I've been there. But I can set you free!" Desperation.
"Izuku, love, don't make me come in there! I'm gonna count to three!" Now a warning, and Izuku's breath lodged in his throat
"One…" Oh, nonononono– what is he supposed to do!? He can't fight off, Tomura! He could never!
But then–
"Two…" Izuku scrambled to get up, his eyes flicking between the shelf above and the door. There's a reason his closet door has its own lock after all, the chair was just an extra measure.
"FUCK IT!" Before the poor door could be taken back to Mother Nature—
It swung open.
