Barbie took a massive stretch as soon as she entered the front door of her dream house. She yawned and looked up at the clock on the wall.
12:00 exactly.
Barbie sighed and kicked off her stilettos. She had started a new job as a lawyer today and won her first case. It was exhilarating! But, on top of her morning job as a local barista and the lunchtime figure skating tournament she partook in, Barbie was shattered.
She shrugged off her hot pink blazer and threw it on the nearby coat stand. She slowly walked into the living room, checking herself out in a wall mirror on the way - she, of course, looked perfect as always. She went to switch on the lights but noticed they were already on.
Hm, strange…
Barbie grabbed one of her stilettos (just to be safe) and held it above her head as she cautiously stepped into the room. Suddenly, she jumped at the sight of a man snoring on the sofa and threw the shoe halfway across the room, hitting him perfectly in the head.
The man - Ken, Barbie soon registered - jumped awake and let out a little “ow”. He rubbed his hand across the bump on his head and looked up confusedly at Barbie. She put her hand over her mouth and quickly rushed over to him.
“Ken! I’m so sorry, I just didn’t expect you to be here!” She cried and quickly knelt down next to him.
“Wow, that was a pretty clear shot,” he murmured. His eyes focused on the spot in which she had been standing when she threw the shoe. “You should consider getting into softball…”
“Olympic champion,” she giggled, then ran her hand over the bump on his head. “Should I get the first aid kit?”
“I should be,” Ken tried to sit up but let out a little moan of pain, “fine,” he winced.
Barbie tutted and stood up. “I’ll be right back,” she said with a smile, then rushed out of the room.
She came back with a green bag in hand and laid it down next to Ken. “Right, now let me have a proper look at the injury.” Ken pouted but leaned his head towards the blonde.
She looked over the bump with that cute concentration face that Ken loved so much - the one where her tongue sticks out the side of her mouth - and it made the whole thing more bearable to Ken. Barbie used an antiseptic wipe to clean the wound then put a cute pink plaster with her face dotted across it over the bump.
“Right, it should clear up pretty soon,” she said finally and smiled sheepishly at Ken. “I’m so sorry… I’m glad I didn’t do too much damage.”
Ken smiled and rubbed his hand over the plaster on his head. “How do you know how to do all this stuff?”
“That,” Barbie scoffed. “That’s pre-med-school stuff. Wait until you want to undergo an organ transplant surgery, then you’ll be impressed!”
Ken let out a breath of amazement then leaned forward and kissed the bridge of Barbie’s nose. “You’re amazing, Barbs.”
Barbie giggled and kissed Ken on the lips. Ken’s eyes widened, then softened as he returned it.
Barbie pulled back and smiled at him. “What are you doing here anyway?”
“I, uh,” Ken chuckled nervously and lifted a hand to scratch at the back of his neck. “I wanted to cook you dinner, but I must have fallen asleep.”
Barbie grinned at him and then nodded her head towards the door. “C’mon, then. It’s getting late. Why don’t we cook together?”
Ken nodded enthusiastically.
They ended up making spaghetti bolognese together, though Barbie clearly took the lead in the process - Ken put it to her Michelin Star cooking skills.
“This smells great, Ken!” Barbie praised as they sat down at the table. Ken nodded in agreement and began wolfing down the meal. Barbie preferred to take it slower and cut it up into pieces.
“Mmm,” Ken hummed, a mouth full of food. “This is good!”
“Well done!” Barbie said kindly and patted Ken’s hand.
Ken looked down at her hand and blushed. He moved his hand slightly, ready to hold hers in his.
Then the landline rang.
“Oh! Excuse me!” Barbie quickly stood up and rushed to the phone.
Ken watched as she chatted a bunch of jargon with whoever was on the other side of the phone. They kept her for about a minute, then she placed the phone down.
“Sorry about this, Ken. Barbie would like me to cover a shift at the hospital. Ken has burned himself on a toaster again.”
Ken smiled sadly and shrugged. “It’s fine!” He said and nodded towards the door. “I should be heading back now anyway, I can give you a lift.”
“Oh, that would be perfect, Ken! Thank you!”
Barbie followed Ken out towards his car, which she hadn’t even noticed was in the driveway when she arrived home. Wow, she must have been tired! He opened the door for her in the passenger side, then jumped in the driver’s seat.
“Seat Belts?” He asked, turning to check hers was on before revving up the engine. “Off we go!”
Barbie watched Ken lovingly as he pulled out of the driveway and drove towards the hospital.
“Thank you so much for all this, it’s been really nice to see you today,” Barbie sighed happily.
“Of course,” Ken replied and reached out his arm to rest at the back of the blonde. “I’m your boyfriend, I want to be here for you.”
Barbie smiled, then let out a yawn. “Oh, my…”
Ken frowned and glanced at Barbie, then at the hospital that lay ahead of them. “Are you sure you’re okay to work? You must be feeling quite tired…”
“I’ll be fine,” Barbie assured after a long stretch. Ken parked the car on a layby near the bright pink hospital and watched Barbie cautiously as she got out of the car. “Now, stay safe,” she said, then pressed a kiss to his lips. He stared at her completely dumbfounded and she chuckled before whispering a “thank you” and skipping off to work.
Ken watched in admiration and blushed at the little smile that spread across his cheeks.
“You really are everything,” he murmured. He sat in silence for a few moments before driving home…
